1. I am posting this before I change my mind as I can't justify having two spare amp heads! Most Basschatters will be familiar with the Genz Benz Streamliner 900, a 3kg bass head rated at 900W into 4ohm (500W into 8ohm), which somehow manages to be light weight (3kg) whilst still feeling chunky and solid. I have yet to come across a situation where the amp has not been loud enough. If you are not familiar with the Streamliner 900, it combines an all-valve pre-amp featuring control over a choice of 3 mid-range frequencies (similar to the Ampeg approach) with a 900W Class D power stage. The valves run from a proper 300volt DC supply. It is currently fitted with three JJ ECC83S valves (better known in the UK as 12AX7's) for quality and reliability. Take a look at the photo of the rear panel for an idea of the amp's connectivity. Here's a link to the manual. You might also find useful the Basschat user reviews (including my own!), this thread on the tone controls, and this video from Ed Friedland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-27szg61bw&t=529s The amp comes boxed with its manual. I have never had an issue with the blue LEDs. There are some scratches and light marking on the casing, and a couple of small but deep chunks out of the alloy back pane; next to the DI output. Full disclosure: a couple of times I have heard a low-level buzz through the connected speaker, but this disappeared when I gave the casing a sharp tap (this is a standard TV maintenance technique from back in the day!) I am looking for £365 which includes tracked insured delivery to mainland Britain. No trades thanks.
2. In my country band, the drummer comes up with loads of suggestions, 90% of which are Merle Haggard numbers. The the rest of us make other suggestions in the hope of watering down the Merle Haggard content. Then we have a rehearsal and end up playing some of the numbers live, and about a third of them fall by the wayside after a few gigs. The process is repeated every six months.
3. Someone on here sold one of those to someone else on here, who brought it to a Bass Bash. I had a go on it - it weighed almost nothing.
4.
What is it with build your own guitar places? You want to build something different, well, what wood do you want your P or J bass?
They supply blank 'slabs' as well, so you can pick any shape you like. Here's one I made earlier:
5. That photo looks absolutely fine to me. The silk is not on the 'speaking' portion of the string.
6. I favour a rectangle of camouflage netting hung across the front elevation of the Axe residence.
7.
i think the board is a "schmit array" apologies for the awful spelling!

That Schmidt Array Board is gorgeous.
OK, heard of these via That Pedal Show on YouTube. Slick indeed.
8. If you're not looking forward to playing the gigs - whether it's the material, the musicians, the venues, whatever - then it's time to move on.
9. Sounds like you did the right thing.
10. £136 on GAK, not a bad price for what it can do.
11.
... The mids are low-mid @280hz and high-mid @750hz but they miss out the zone of honk (at about 500hz) ...
'The zone of honk' - my nomination for quote of the year! Nice review, thanks.
12.
It's fine by me. Ever so slightly dissonant, but I suspect that;s deliberate to emphasise the key change.
What key change? The change to Eb doesn't come till nearly the end of the song. You might argue a brief modulation to Bm but that wouldn't call for a G# note.
13.
Ahh.. it's jarring to me. I've just checked and he does it on the original, too. It must just be me..
No. As you say, that's on the original, I transcribed it about 10 years ago and it still sounds out of place. If I were in the position of coming up with the line, I would most likely play an A note to suggest Bm7 - G natural would sound even odder against a Bm chord!
14. I'm pretty sure slickness is a word. If it's not, it should be. Don't recognise the board, but likely to be a Boss/Roland product.
15.
Nice bass!
...but no matching headstock!
16. I seem to recall molan (of this parish) remarking that the TH500 used the same Class D power stage as the allegedly 900W Streamliner!
17. Splendid job!
18. I'm familiar with the concept of borrowing chords from the parallel minor (Ionian mode), which is something of a commonplace in rock. I hadn't thought of extending this to the other modes - cool!
19. Subscribed!
20.
... And thinking about it, guitarists never seem to moan about carrying a whacking great Marshall valve amp around, so a 13kg bass amp isn`t that big a deal to me.
I'm a guitarist too, and believe me, amp weight is an issue! I never went down the stack or half-stack route, but I have long since ditched arm-lengthening 2x12 combos in favour of much lighter 1x12 models. Even so, my main gigging amp is by far the heaviest piece of kit that I own.
21. There are some slap fills in Uptown Funk, which is pretty mainstream. I have yet to learn to slap, so when I play Uptown Funk I play non-slap fills with a bit of fingernail, and have never had a complaint. Ditto Car Wash! A couple of weeks back, for the first time ever in my bass playing life, I missed the opportunity of some dep work simply because I couldn't slap. The band in question actually made a feature of slapping at some point(s) during its set.
22. I tried one at Bassgear a few years back and found it surprisingly heavy, considering it is a thinline electro-acoustic.
23. Other things being equal (and setting aside all thoughts of HEFT), I would prefer to have a light thing and a heavy thing to carry, rather than 2 heavy things.
24. I'm not even sure I could hear a difference.
25. Why do I find myself looking at this when I have 2 already? Because they are so good!
