  1. I can't even PLAY bass, why am I drop D on a fretless failing to transcribe Bela Fleck? 50739730751_4171a9f698_b.jpg

Oh yeh, because it's LUSH and I'm DESPERATE to make those noises.

D’oh! I’ve been doing so much guitar recently that for a moment I read the music as treble clef - ignore that bit!

Good for you tackling transcribing, I've been doing it for years and it really helps to develop your ear.

      Some quick drafting tips:

      • In bars 12 and 20 you don't need to write the natural sign before the second B note as the first one applies to the whole bar (but if there's a natural in the same bar in a different register, you do still need to write that).
      • In bars 24 and 26, you can write E instead of Fb (unless it makes sense in reflecting the underlying harmony e.g. if it was the 3rd of Dbm).

  3. What's on my mind?

I'm thinking that the Status Update function has never been the same since the site migrated to the new format.  Some members (knowingly or unknowingly) see it as a private messaging service.

    My burning question is:

Now that we no longer get @Les's Post Gig Gastro Guide* - the PG3, if you will, do we actually need the shoutbox at all?

We have public Topics and Private Messaging for that stuff after all.

    Just an opinion.

  4. Wow, Prosteels may well be the worst strings I have tried, its like having the mids on -15 with a boost in the bass just to further emphasize those missing mids

  5. Spending my entire bass fund, plus a load extra on a bass will make me feel better about 2020 won't it?
    This is a shite year

  8. About to head off for IKEA. I am anticipating Xmas music. Wish me luck.

I loathe 99% of Christmas music. Mrs Axe and I went into in a cheapie shop in Maidenhead and the Christmas music was so bad I walked straight out again.

  9. So glad I'm back with a Demeter amp again.  Such a wonderfully clear, warm tone.  Impossible to get a bad sound from it.

On the preamp PCB (on which the valves are mounted). You have to slide the chassis out of the wooden sleeve to access it.

My trim pot is pretty much cranked as I play with a light touch. I no longer have the Pawn Shop Mustang with the depleted uranium humbucker...

It is possible to get dirt out of the pre-amp by cranking the internal gain trim-pot and then hitting the input with a very powerful pickup.

      Er, apparently...

What's with the two powers sockets on the rear: 12V centre +ve, 10V centre -ve? Does that represent a choice of power supplies, or do you power it off 12V with the option to run power to pedals at 9V?

  19. not sure I like Chromes on my L1000... do I not like Chromes or not like flats?

I use Chromes on one of my Precisions (EB Cobalts on the others). They can be quite harsh and 'boingy' at first but soon settle down.

I have aa Ampeg PF50T which sounds great for both gigs and recording, is easy to move about, runs off UK mains without an extra transformer, and doesn't need a re-cap! Also there's not much in the piggy bank at the moment...
