Gigging drummer for 40 years. heart trouble meant I had to give it up. Suffering from depression, and aged 57 I got a rubbish 2/2 foundation degree in popular music. Eventualy, after doing some private tutoring and stuff for a while, bored now, I took up bass as a challenge and have been experimenting for some time. I started out with a heavily customised stag 24 fret 4 string (Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounders , grover tuners and decent strings etc.} and a Laney RB4 160 watt amp. , learned a few classic rock tunes and did a couple of pub gigs with three like minded oldies, but I was forced to move out the area, and the band really wasn't that good it warranted travelling for. Living on my own and with no musical contacts I took a more serious approach and I now have Quicy Tolouse 6 string through neck active, with a mark bass little mark lll and a pair of Hartke 210 XL cabinets, and I am trying to teach myself to play Bach Cello parts with a view to teaming up with a flute player. Okay I always did have ambitions beyond my abilities but if you don't try you'll never know 🙂 All of this brings me to the point of my signing up to the forum., so I'll leave this and head over to my first attempt at a post.

Isn’t it crazy that nobody during WW2 had ever heard electric slap bass?

The Bass Gear Low Down #45
"We are so thrilled to welcome long-time friend Dan Veall to the Bass Gear Magazine team. Dan will be joining us on a regular basis...." - Tom Bowlus

What would be a good preamp/modeller/driver/DI to go straight into a PA? Before everyone starts naming bespoke, top of the range items, please bear in mind that the budget is low. When I say low, I mean that I was looking at a Behringer BDI21, low.

I have a Fender Rumble 500 and want to connect a Peavy 1810 bass cab 4ohm - What kind of performance can I expect load wise?
thanks

Just picked up some KZ-ZS10 Pro in-ear monitors for £42 from Amazon. 5 driver per side, very impressed with them for the price!

These are excellent - very detailed sound and comfortable to wear. I've used some of the packaging to store them in a small plastic box in my gig box.
Thanks for the tip @Sibob

I’m wondering if Labella flatwounds are as good as everyone says 🤔 ...
-
Now that it's settled in I've just put 1/8 turn on the truss rod to accommodate the slightly stiffer La Bellas. The bass has had Chromes on ever since I bought it, and that's the first time I've had to touch the truss rod.
Sounding and playing a dream!
Got yours yet @Big Rich?

Well the La Bella flats are now on my '73 Precision and you can consider me officially chuffed.
They sound very clear and sweet. With the tone control up they are fuller and less scoopy than the D'Addario Chromes that they replaced, but are no less bright where it counts. They also feel very smooth under the fingers.
I needed to make a minor intonation tweak but I don't think I'll be touching the truss rod.
'Scuse me, off to do some more playing!

Turns out the cheapest way to get a tour case for a Pedaltrain Classic Jr is to just buy one with the pedalboard in it 🤦♂️ At least I can move one of them on soon!

Work meetings you don't need to contribute in are really good to sit and practice scales!
