I have been combing BC Marketplace (and various retailer websites) for a particular kind of bass, and I find myself slightly perturbed when all a European seller's posts are in the 'For Sale' sections. It's one thing to build up good feedback by sending the basses that other BC-ers have paid for, but it's quite another to take an active part in the forum and be a BC 'face'. I would much rather buy from someone in the latter category, quite apart from the issue of being able to try out the bass without troubling EasyJet.

Looking at the pic, the volume pot is about where the tone pot would normally be. Drilling an extra hole and fitting another pot is not a difficult job but it would become more involved if the body has only been routed for one pot. Or you could fit a stacked-knob dual pot - maybe contact KiOgon on this forum about a solderless loom?

I found the Mono dual too bulky and went back to ABS hard cases.

I'm sat here with a Precision, and I can say that the end of the top horn is in the right place, but the top cutaway is a fret or two deeper than normal, and the scratchplate has been modified accordingly. We need someone with a good knowledge of P-bass history to weigh in here!

Does the author reference peer-reviewed research carried out using double-blind tests, or is he just relying on anecdotal evidence?

Although one of the functions of my rig (guitar or bass) is to be loud [i]enough[/i], a too-loud band spoils it for me both as a player and as an audience member. My rule of thumb is: If I need to use one or more earplugs, it's too loud. I should explain I have some damage to my right ear, which causes it to be over-sensitive, so that loud sounds (especially in the upper mids) create a crackling effect. Depending on my position in relation to the other instruments, and their volumes, I may end up using one earplug or two. When I had my own band (i.e. I was the boss!) we never played so loud that I needed earplugs, just loud enough to get the music across with a bit of excitement. Having a sensible drummer helped of course, and keeping my (skinny-string) guitar volume reasonable didn't force the bass player into volume wars.

Great result! I should not be allowed near woodworking tools...
