1. Isn't Dood of this parish based in Norfolk? Never had a lesson with him, but I think he's very well respected in that regard.
2. Leon Sylvers III - most stuff on Solar Records (Whispers, Shalamar) apparently played a Ri**** with a pick
3. I've been having a play with GarageBand over the past couple of days - and find it a lot more intuitive. I've just found out a guy down the road uses Logic, so I might ask him if I can have a go with his before I splash the cash. Anyone want a copy of Cubase 8.5 pro?
4.
Wow! I bet a lesson with Anthony was an eye opener! What did you work on?
Not very much, my daughter (4 years old at the time) wanted my (our) attention so dominated the lesson with her recorder and ukelele playing. Ant has a very structured syllabus that he likes to work through if you are taking regular lessons - but we just worked on a couple of technique niggles that I had (probably a waste of a lesson, but my daughter was unstoppable). This was the reason I didn't pursue skype lessons, nothing to do with the technology - just works better for me when the kids arent around!
5. Another vote for Classic and Cool - I've bought (at a really great price) and sold (with a very generous offer). Mark is a really nice chap to deal with too.
6. I can offer a different perspective. I did a skype lesson with Antony Wellington awhile back. I found it very natural - but then i do have a 46" tv with cameras and skype It was just like being in the studio with him. It helped that Antony really knows what he's doing and he has the skype lesson thing down to a T.
7.
i switched from cubase to reaper a couple of years back. my advice would be unless you have a need to, don't do it, as you have to relearn a new software which can be infuriating. if you are embedded in cubase, changing can be more of a pain than a help. as with any DAW, there a pros and cons to each, but they basically do the same thing and produce the same quality output, it's mainly down to the user skills and preference of how your workflow goes. i'm assuming you are using a mac? my understanding is that logic is no longer available or supported on windows.
I don't mind relearning if at the end of the path there is a pot of gold!
8.
I did a 3 month part-time course on Cubase, and when it finished I was still totally baffled by it. Logic I took to straight away. I find it to be far more intuitive than any other DAW that I've tried, including Pro-tools.
What did you find intuitive about it? And what baffled you about Cubase?
9. Hi Dan, the iPad app looks good. I will check it out. Is GarageBand similar to Logic (workflow and layout) - eg, could I start out 'learning the ropes' on GarageBand, to prepare me for Logic ?
10. I'm considering making the switch from Cubase to Logic. Has anyone else here done the same? I'm a long time Cubase user (since Pro16 on the Commodore 64 in the early 80's) and haven't really used anything else. So I'm specifically interested in the learning curve and how quickly one can accomplish basic tasks? Pros/Cons of Logic compared to Cubase? I have a newish Mac (i5/16gb) so I'm pretty confident I've got the hardware for it. I'm not really interested in hearing about Reaper/Ableton/Pro-Tools. Other forums where this has been discussed seem to turn into fan-boy shouting matches, so I'm hoping for some good grounded opinions from BC. Thanks for your input.
11. How deep is it? I'm looking for something like this, but I don't need it very deep.
12. Edward bought a book/CD from me. Great communication, instant payment no fuss = smooth deal. Thanks very much.
13. I'm on a Motu 828mk2 from 2004 I believe. Latest OS from Apple. The electronics will wear out (capacitors) before they stop producing drivers for it.
14.
You make these assumptions/conclusions standing in your shoes. Not everyone is as switched on and aware of the cr4p that people will pull, not everyone is confrontational, not everyone uses digital media or knows the way to use a forum as soon as they sign in! I work with people who need support to deal with 'life' and from them through to you there is a whole spectrum of needs and abilities. If being too trusting is the worst thing the OP can be accused of then that's not a bad thing. What's the worst thing we can say of the tw4t who scammed the bass? Stand back and imagine it ISN'T you (as most of us are doing) and think of other persons that could have been screwed; your father/mother, nephew/niece etc. can you think of a family member who is just a little too easy to have over?
The OP quite clearly said he's an antique dealer. I'm sure he can spot a rogue when one comes along.
15. I opened my bookshelf to discover that I had a second, brand new unread copy of this excellent text that I must have ordered by accident. Kenny is a jazz pianist - but this is equally applicable to any instrument. Good motivational text that helped get me out of a rut. Comes complete with the CD £10 and a couple of quid for shipping and it can be yours.
16.
What a strange post, is it just me or does anyone else think that no matter if the op was too trusting or not, you don't just put a £1500 bass loss 'down to experience'. Can't quite get my head round you appearing to warn the op off? Very strange.
It's not strange. As someone who has had their fair share of misfortunes in the past including being royally screwed over by a member here, it never pays to dwell on things. Let go, move on, learn from the experience. I'm guessing the OP has come here as a last resort, having already tried to contact the accused, and contacted the police (who were probably very disinterested). I'm not a gambling man, but I'd have a few quid on the bass and the cash has long vanished. Before you ask or put 2+2 together, I'm not affiliated with the accused or known to him.
17. If it were a thirty pound effect pedal - id say yes, post on trust. But a £1500 bass - who in their right mind would post this off to an absolute stranger off facebook without being paid in cleared funds first.
18. I've seen this on facebook in multiple groups/pages. Personally I'd be careful with the accusations. It's one thing to name and shame someone, but another to set up facebook groups/pages to hound the accused. I think this could turn round and bite you in the backside if you're not careful. Not condoning whats happened here, just be pragmatic and chalk it up to experience....
19. I used to have a Japanese Marcus Miller - it was ok, but I chopped it for a US 75 RI Jazz - now that's smoking! For me it's perfect in everyway.
20. As the title says, virtually unused Fender Rumble 15 v2 Combo. Don't have a means to pack/courier, so cash on collection only from Northampton NN3.
