1.
For everyone: Niacin live:
that was quite interesting... could only skim through it for 5 mins though..
2. A lot of 80's stuff does go down in a standard party cover set, but only certain songs, i.e. the more well known stuff, and we do it without keys, so lots of clever bass pedal sounds if needed, or rocked up to suits if better...
3.
Let me explain, I guess most of us go into shops with pre-conceived ideas of what we want, basically whatever is causing us GAS at that moment in time. I would guess that a lot of the time we are basing these desires on images and hype rather than physically playing the bass/amp/cab. Look how much stuff gets churned around on the for sale thread here. While chatting to Mark at that time, he told me how he has guys coming back over and over again buying and selling the kit they so desperately wanted a few weeks earlier. They didnt listen to any advice from someone who spends their life around the gear and a lot of these people ended up not happy with the purchase. Yes it was probably good for business but he was more interested in finding the right bass/amp for me and customers in general than have people trading in and swapping gear all the time.
See, I was the opposite, I had no pre conception of what I wanted and had done no research, or had GAS. I wanted some newer lightweight gear, but was used to big heavy older school stuff, and have a very particular sound in my head that I'm used too from an amp.. He kept on saying 'the amp is just a stage monitor, and only there to amplify the sound of the bass', much to my annoyance as I said I virtually always rely on the amp sound as part of what I'm used to, and wanted a slightly cranked valve pre-amp sound from the amp ... I accepted compromises may need to be made but he kept showing me Genz, Markbass, etc amps, all very clean, not what I wanted... Eventually I asked about the Orange Terror bass, but he said it was way worse and 'too coloured'.. Of course I ended up buying it.
4.
I met Mark at an event and I felt that I did not really gel with him and his general attitude put me off going to BD maybe I got it wrong and he is a really nice guy
Kind of what I found. I thought he seemed very close minded and opinionated for someone in sales, particularly in music instrument retail which is so individual taste and subjective driven.. ... I still bought from him as he had let me try a few amps/cabs and sold it at good prices and in stock.
5. the bass is compressed to buggery on that track
6. Been playing it since it came out.. getting BV's right whilst playing at the same time was fun..
7. I just used to have a 3 inch sheet of dense flight case foam stuff the bottom of my amp flight case,.
8. If you can find a shallow 2u amp, why not mount it in the rear of the rack, as the Kemper and wireless stuff isn't too deep, and it's unlikely you'll need to see the front..
9.
Anybody played an Orange Terror Bass and found it to lack heft?
It's an interesting one, as I bought a Terror 1000 about 2 and half years ago to use a spare for my 400+ mesa, and I thought it was the nearest sound wise I could find at bass direct at the time.. Tried the usual others Genz, Aguilar, etc.. Due to it's convenience I've barely used the Mesa for about 18 months, probably doing 200 gigs or so with the Terror, but I dragged it out for a gig weekend before last and was amazed at the difference. Compared to the Orange which is loud, pokey and very big sounding to me, the Mesa was so effortless and full sounding particularly in the lower sub 300hz area, which is exactly where you want it. So yes, definite difference, but still will use the Orange 90% of the time for convenience.
10. Will try and make it along to this . got quite a late gig night before, so will be a bit last minute.. probably have most gear on board, but will try to drag as much of the arsenal as poss if i come.
11. Boss CH1 - had it for 15 + years, only chorus i found at the time that didn't drop the level or lose bass ..
12. I used to use a stereo bass rig back in the early 90's, Peavey or Yamaha pre-amp, Ibanez harmonizer/delay or Alesis Quadraverb, into 2 stereo amps, running bi-amped into two custom speaker cabs each with a 12 and an 18. Usually had them stacked together on one side of the stage, but occasionally had them either side of the drums.. I would've run the effects stereo but the preamps weren't stereo so never got full use of stereo imaging... I didn't actually sound that good, Marshall DBS rig that superseded it sounded better.
13. A very good friend of mine and ex band mate was chief designer at Blackstar for a few years, and we spoke a few times about why they didn't expand the the range into bass amps, or even a decent valve preamp pedal, but he said they just wouldn't find a slot in the market as known solely as a guitar amp company....so quite suprised they've dipped their toe in the bass water, even with this odd practice thing.
14. I remember reading an article about guitarists and speakers, with an apparently well known player looking for that 'vintage hendrix' tone paying a fortune for genuine late 60s Celestions, and a very well thought of engineer pointing out Hendrix wasn't using 40 year old speakers, they'd have been virtually new back then, and there's no way they sound the same 40 years on, so totally pointless.
15. If It's this type, about 40mm long: They're hard to find, but some speaker repair type companies stock them, you can replace with these: It's 24volt, truck spec, often 10 or 15watt rating. Easier to find, lots of companies PA cabs, HK, Peavey etc use crossovers with these.. Some cab crossovers used these regular dome lamp like this (unlikely) : Then a standard indicator 12volt 21watt lamp will probably do it..
16. The old Hohner B2 Steinberger copy was great, as was its bigger full body brother the Jack..
17.
Not sure what driver is in your cab (possibly an EV?)
I think the newer Mesa cabs (since early 2000s) have used Mesa specced Eminence speakers.. older ones used alot EV speakers.
18. Interested..... but never tried a BF cab.... guessing its 4 ohm
19. Depending how old the cab is, you could always try Westside Distribution direct... they sent me 3 new 10" drivers for cab that was about 18 months old that had failed.. Failing that, Wembley Loudspeakers always come up trumps too...
20. Received mine yesterday... in typical man-style, i ignored the instructions, powered it up plugged in and messed about.. only running through a little 20w practice amp and filmed on the phone so sound and vid quality isn't perfect, and i only skimmed over a few of the sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZPhU8QwwW0 Tracks down to low E on some sounds, not all though.. tracking varies greatly depending on effect, often good though, you can hear struggle sometimes... When i get a chance I'll get into parameters and mess about a bit more to get some useable gigging noises..
21. I've had a 410he and think it's really nothing special with laughable power rating... Why not getting something you like at the sound of, and get an Ashdown logo to put on it (possibly temporarily) instead..
22. the trouble with those 2 way connector jacks is they fix the pedals together, so in a 'lively' gig environment i've found they stress and slowly destroy the sockets of your pedals.....
