1.
I thought the BCR's had always carried on in one guise or another, Les McKeown being the driving force.
yep, I know 2 of the the long term band members in Les' BCR...
2.
Just count yourself very lucky that you're not a chronic pain sufferer, because if you were this'd all make sense to you. I'm a little astounded that you don't get most people either need to look after their back or want to do the best they can to prevent issues. But, my smiley was genuine because we all think differently, so this isn't a dig at you, simply an honest reply with no prejudice.
Fair enough... I appreciate everyone's priorities are different. I've had a few back issues, but more related to arthritis in my hip... luckily not for a while now. Guess I'm too stubborn to go light...
3. I've been using Wembley Loudspeakers for years for recones etc.. .. I can see you're in sth Wales, which is miles away but they may be able to help..
4. It's not accurate
Speak for yourself. I don't buy many basses from music stores, but EVERY bass I buy starts with a check of the weight. There are some very good reasons for that which I understand fully. If you don't understand my thinking, please forgive my lack of interest. I think there are too many people here on Basschat who obsess about criticising people they've never met, on issues they clearly know nothing about. (Obligatory smiley to show that I'm not an aggressive keyboard warrior hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet)

Speak for yourself. (non aggressive or sarcastic smiley back at ya)
5. I'd get it re-coned, will be way cheaper than any other option...
6.
I don't understand it either. You don't go into a music store and ask for a 3.5kg P bass do you. I think we are getting obsessed with all things light weight. We should stop obsessing and get on with playing.
This is the thing, it's just something I never came across before, and I worked in music gear retail for a bit some years back.
7. I'm relatively new here, but one thing that seems to stand out and I don't get is what seems like many forum members concerns about the weight of a bass. I've been playing bass for 37 years, and regularly gigging for most of this, been a pro for nearly 20 years, gigging 3-4 times a at week on average, and never once has it ever crossed my mind what a bass might weigh, unless it's flight cased for taking on a plane, or shipping. I appreciate some people have back problems and then a particularly heavy 6 stringer may prove to be an issue. I've owned and lugged some stupidly heavy gear over the years, along with PA etc.... and I went lightweight amp wise myself about 3 years ago, but bass weight never occurred to me, I just don't get it. Can someone explain..
8. A friend of mine makes high end 'boutique' guitar amps.... he charges around £2.5k and more for each head, as these are fully hand made (including the boxes), pretty much custom items, using the best possible components he could find, and designed with no compromises. Whether the audible difference compared to other production line amps would be noticable is one argument, but these things will last a very long time, sound great and will be incredibly reliable. I did question him about the high price tag, and he says it is a realistic figure based on cost of materials and hours of labour.
9. 3 grand bass, comes with 'Teach Yourself Bass' instruction book.
10. Still got this b@stid thing, and now moving house in the next couple of weeks so really need it gone.. any reasonable offers ???
11. Silly question, have you tried another lead, or amp ? Radio signal is usually a faulty cable... Shielding generally is pretty good on these, and humbucker fairly quiet ... If it's an earth issue, when you touch the metal bits it'll stop buzzing..
12.
I've done a dozen or more shows on the Mackie / I-pad setup for our part-time PA and I just can't find any love for it.. I'm a big fan of 'conventional' digital mixers, I use a Soundcraft 328XD and a Yamaha 02R daily at work. Both are a little dated but navigation especially on the 328XD is pretty much as quick as an analogue wiith 10x the feature set and just a couple of EQs. The Mackie will do more than either but the two main points I struggle with are: A: I can't navigate round the platform fast enough. Dragging or pulling areas feels arkward sometimes especiallly if you catch the wrong slider (particularly on the graphic EQ page) it's frustrating. It just all feels a bit slow for my liking. B: The lack of physiicality is a barrier for me. If I've moved away from the main mix, gettiing back for that unexpected guitar solo is super quick on either of my consoles but if I'm on the wrong page on the Mackie, the journey back to the mix page and then to scroll accross to that channel is simply too slow. I feel I made the transition to digital mixers pretty painlessly and I'm now totally sold on the concept. Mixing on an I-pad, however is not for me. I saw John's comment regarding the LS-9. They're a funny thing but I think I'd rather this than the Mackie. I had a very much 'in at the deep end' introduction to the LS-9 but once I'd got my head into it, I appreciated how powerful and flexible they are but they're still not that quick to get round. I've drawn many a parallel to that and my 02R. I've never ran one with a tablet tho. It's late so I'll weigh in with a bit more tomorrow..
This is exactly why I went for the Soundcraft Si, it's the best analogue.digital crossover desk.. I've used LS9's, O1V's and they are awkward somehow... great but still fiddly. I did a lot of research and it seems the best for me.. and it sounds good ! (14 aux's is handy too)
13. I've got a Soundcraft Si Expression, which has proper faders, knobs etc, as I don't personally like mixing mixing from stage on a touchpad screen, which I have tried on a few occasions with Mackie DL1608 and A&H iLive, and I find it's very hard to adjust anything quick and accurately enough. I bought for recalling different settings at different venues, and future proofing for monitor mixes for others via their iPhone etc.. If you have a separate soundguy out front, or never change anything it makes sense, but i don't find trying to play and do sound at the same time on an iPad a pleasant experience.
14. Chili Peppers - By the Way Billy Cobham - Stratus
15. bit like my Irish pub one i did years back... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChicLP-8-EY
16. you could contact Headstock who are the Laney distributors and see if they'll sell you a genuine replacement. As above contact Celestion direct, or upgrade the pair to something higher spec so they don't fail in the future..
17. Sounds like the eq and levels are wrong the front of house mix. Keyboard shouldn't be going so low, kick drum should be well present but sit nicely with the bass... and you should be equally as aware of yourself in the pa if you are of the kick drum and keys..
18. I heard just the drummers in rehearsals a couple of months ago. .. couldn't realky tell what to expect..
19. When I play it I use a combo of octave and bass balls pedals to fill it out on the choruses..
20. I've had a couple of other Jazzers, both 90's MiM's, one a standard sunburst, and the other a lovely black deluxe... Been using Stingrays mainly for last 15 years though, but fancied another Jazz so acquired this 74' last year, has a Gotoh bridge, and EMG's (originals were never on it), which makes it more usable in reality, and just sourced correct black scratch plate for it too..
21. I've had a my GK 700RB (I think) for years just as a spare, as I got it very cheap, and only used occasionally with Mesa 4x10, sounds OK but needs lots of eq as the flat sound is quite bright. I think it's 380 + 50 (to horn) at 4ohms, but only watts 250 watts at 8ohm, so runs out of power quite quick to my ears. I've used other GK amps at gigs with backline provided and they seem ok, but never impressed. Best I've heard of newer gear is the Tonehammer.
22. I'd look at Orange, particularly the Terror before it's totally out of stock.. The Aguilar Tone Hammer is good, but might run out of puff.. I tried the Genz Streamliner & Shuttle, various Mark Bass, Euphonic and other I can'r remember light weight heads to replace my Mesa 400+ for smaller/upstairs gigs, and already had a GK as a spare. I've owned had various Peavey, Trace, Eden, Marshall VBA and DBS, Ampeg rigs before too, The only one that came close in power and warm sound to the Mesa was the Orange.
23. Not my child, but letting a kiddie up to join in at festival in Germany few years back.... My daily axe I still use too.
24.
Do you have to pay import taxes on second hand stuff you buy from ebay? I didn't know that...

Anything, new or used, imported to the UK from outside the EU over £15 or gifts over £36.
Plus VAT, plus whatever handling charge the courier adds to get it through customs
25. I'm on the lookout for a fretless, so prepared to swap for something of similar value if that's an option..
