What rack case for Ashdown ABM EVO III rack amp??
RussFM replied to Linus27's topic in Amps and Cabs
I bought a Stagg rack bag, half the price of a Gator case and none of the annoying rattle I always got from the clips on my old Gator! -
Also got to put in a vote for Alkaline Trio's Dan Andriano. Some fun basslines while also singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWjTdPk38v8
Great bassist, and a nice guy, had a many a chat with him about the pros and cons of Jazzes and Precisions. -
Fairly cheap new rig - , 8x10, 6x10 or 2x10/4x10 combination?

Reverb's 10% off offer was looking pretty tempting on a £450 ABM 810, but I managed to keep the credit card in my wallet! I think realistically, an 8x10 would be too much hassle and I'm better off looking at 4x10/2x10 combinations. I am quite tempted by that stacked two 2x10 idea. Could get a couple of Peavey's pretty cheap to try it out. I'm also quite taken by the Eden Nemesis stuff, anyone know what connections they've got on the back, can't seem to find any pictures or information! -
Our Price: £499.00 RRP: £499.00 You Save: £0.00 (0%)
That'll be the recession then

Actually, I save £499.00. There's no way I'd spend that much money on it. I could get a new Highway 1 for £50 more, let alone the hundreds of second hand basses!

ABM would be nice... what are they going for second hand at the moment? -

I'm thinking of picking up some new cabs, as I'm struggling to hear myself at practice with just a 4ohm 2x10 on the floor. After spending the last few years with my small but loud GK Neo 212, I'm thinking since I need to cut costs, I may as well forget any ideas I have about going lightweight, and enjoy having a decent size stack behind me before I can afford to go small and lightweight again next year. I've had a look around, but there are just too many options, so wondering what other BCers have done to get a decent stack on a budget. My amp is 500w at 4ohm - the most sensible option would be a 4x10 and 2x10 (300w each), but I could go for something bigger and keep my current 2x10 if needed. My amp only has one speak-on out, so the cabs would need to have input and output. These are what I've found. Cheapest option seems to be the MAG 810, but would this be too big to handle by myself? At gigs it would be fine, but getting it back into the house on my own may be an issue? I've never seen one in the flesh. The ABM looked pretty small for an 8x10 last time I saw one though? Ashdown MAG 810 Ashdown MAG210 and MAG410 GK Backline 2x10 & 4x10 Warwick 610 Pro Laney Richter 4x10 x 2 Hartke VX 4x10 & 2x10 Peavey TVX 210 + 410 Any experiences or other suggestions? Obviously it doesn't have to be new, I'd prefer second hand, much cheaper, but I'd like matching cabs. -
So what do you drive to transport your bass gear around?
Is that a factory fitted sub in the back?
Yeah, I think that's the SE version, mine's the Sport so hasn't got it (stock pic from Parkers). -

I just bought a Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi. Part of me wanted the CC version, and part of me wanted the SW version and an 8x10, but pretty happy with it anyway, I can get my 2x10, 3u rack case and the guitaristist's Gretch case in the boot, and my bass goes on the back seats. Probably would get an 8x10 in there with the seats down. -
Singing and Playing..Do you find this hard/easy???
RussFM replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
In one band I sing along to most choruses and a few harmonies, but in the other I play more complex parts and can't sing at the same time. In contrast, I can never sing while playing guitar! -
Up to £200 it may have been ok, but it's looks far too cheap for a £500 bass, there are so many better options around for that!

My recently downsized rig. Very happy with the sound though! Not as punchy as the old GK, but I can get a few tones I'm happy with, and it doesn't take up much space! Ernie Ball MusicMan Audiophile HD500 head and SWR Goliath JR III, with Fender Deluxe Active Jazz and modded SX Jazz.

My main drummer is absolutely perfect every time. He also does backing vocals, is an amazing lead guitarist, and wrote half our songs. He's also grade 8 on violin. Bastard.

I use what sounds good and looks good - for me, the Fender Jazz is the best looking bass out there, but I don't have to buy US for it to sound good.

I am now the proud owner of an SWR Goliath Jr III, Thanks Andrew! Great to deal with. Nice collection you've got, I'm sure I'll be looking for Warwicks in the for sale forum soon, very nice!

The bridge pickup on my Deluxe Jazz is pretty quiet, and that's got the noiseless pickups in. No problem with the neck pickup, just the bridge. I usually dial out the bridge a bit anyway though so I never bothered to look into it, sounded good as it was!

I'd just find the cheapest place online for the cab and order it. If it was a bass, I'd definitely want to play it first, but amps and cabs I'll happily order from the cheapest vendor! I've never had problems with PMT before (should I rephrase that?), but only ever been to the Birmingham one.

The Genz Benz Shuttle combos look pretty damn good for a lightweight rig. Don't think you'll find much smaller than those.

The best Killers bass line has to be Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, surely!?!!! There's quite a few interesting Kings Of Leon bass lines, I'm not a huge fan, but each album has 3 or 4 great songs on, so worth giving them all a listen and seeing what stands out for you.
