RussFM replied to Cornfedapache's topic in General Discussion
I've just put some D'Addario XLs on one Jazz and some Elites on there other, both sound good! Got them from http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk - ordered on Wednesday and they arrived on Thursday, great service! -
Why does my Bass amp sound louder in passive & not in active
RussFM replied to Soulpatch60's topic in Repairs and Technical
I find my active Jazz to be quieter than my passive Jazz, so use the 'passive' input on my amp for both. -
Played my first gig with my latest band 'Liberation Works' tonight at the Varsity in Wolverhampton. Aside from a minor DI issue during the first song (I set the level to ZERO!!!! IDIOT!!!) it all went well! Really wish I'd warmed up because my wrist/forearm was killing me by the end of the set, time for the strap to get shorter I think! But all in all, a good night, had people up clapping and dancing, all we could ask for on our first gig. Looking forward to the next one now!
I love that green jazz, Andriano is one of my favourite players too. He only seems to play precisions now though! I'm definitely liking the look of the Sunburst Geddy!
Ditto, a big influence on me, especially stuff like Goodbye Forever. He was back to the Jazz on the last tour.

Everything flat on the Active Jazz, pickup blend right in the middle (but the bridge has quieter output anyway). Then on the two amp channels I've got one quite punchy and the other pretty deep with the treble rolled off, and flick between them depending on the song.
-
I like Dan Andriano's bluey green one a lot more than the sunburst.

Not too far from me either, but my sister wouldn't have been too happy if I'd have skipped her wedding for it! Looks great though, I'll definitely make sure I'm free for the next one.
My first tip would be: compliments don't count when they come from your friends or family.
Reminds me of the truly terrible X-Factor hopefuls with the parents waiting outside the door who say they're the best singer they've ever heard and Simon would be a fool not put them through!

Good small venues I've played that would suit you... Wolverhampton Little Civic (closed down last week, but I believe they have a replacement in the main Civic now) Birmingham Academy 3 (moving in September though, not sure how the new place is set up) Birmingham Barfly Bedford Esquires Dudley JBs Stoke Sugarmill York Fibbers Plenty more but that's all I can remember off the top of my head, played some good places in Liverpool and Bristol but no idea what they were called! All of the Barfly and Academy venues are a good place to start though if you're asking for support slots.

For some nice melodic punk bass try Hot Water Music, Jason Black is an awesome player: http://open.spotify.com/track/1JUsg5WknC6aPvVIfEHsFi http://open.spotify.com/track/14W7ArAdPRypIiF8YEaRHJ http://open.spotify.com/track/1HiFhLbKwjl9VYqPxrkzRj http://open.spotify.com/track/0d4FEGMSVJZwR5eNBdPBFi http://open.spotify.com/track/4k939NhFUcdD9kNK8l5UkZ http://open.spotify.com/track/1ufEJiL3sP6dz32jR58wH1

Forget innovation, I want one!!

Is it rack mountable? I might be tempted.... even though I sold a decent Nady a few months ago because I wasn't gigging at the time!

Ah yes, I should mention we often play gigs without PA support for the drums or amps, so these 5w valve amps probably aren't going to cut it?

As bassists, we have a wide range a small amp heads, GK, MarkBass, Ashdown Little Giants, GB Shuttles, etc. But what's out there for the guitarist aside from huge heads built to fit on a 4x12? Apart from the Crate Powerblock that was out a few years ago, there doesn't seem to be a lot of options, does anyone know of anything similar? My guitarist is currently without transport, and could do with something like a Little Giant/Shuttle to take to practices and gigs where he can borrow a cab, but I can't find anything suitable. He used to play through a Marshall Mode Four, so pretty much anything would be smaller, but nothing seems particularly portable.
