  1. That’s sad news indeed. Saw Herbie Flowers live with ‘Sky’ when the first album was released. His bass guitar playing with ‘Sky’ was understated but essential to the coherence of the band. RIP Mr Flowers.
  2. I was there !!! Did it sound as good as the lineup suggests!? That's not an easy question to answer. The 'Weeley Festival Of Progressive Music' took place over the 1971 August Bank Holiday weekend – 53 years ago so my memories are probably fogged and faded due to the passage of time. Anyway … I think the overall sound was pretty good for 1971 technology. I think the PA was predominantly Marshall with a bit of WEM, and probably quite basic compared to the facilities available today. I know that the sound carried in excess of 5 miles from the festival site. The music was non-stop 24/7 for the duration of the festival – either live acts on stage or recorded music played over the PA. One particular 7” single called 'Burundi Black' by Burundi Stephensen Black was played to death over the weekend – and I've still got my copy released by Barclay Records on 7” vinyl. The 24/7 structure meant that sleep happened when your body had had enough – as a result I missed quite a few acts but there are three performances that have lived with me through the years. King Crimson ; Stone The Crows (with Maggie Bell and Leslie Harvey) ; and Colosseum. There is a very good book called 'The Great British Woodstock - The Incredible Story Of The eeley Festival' which gives a lot of information and insight into the background and evolution of the festival. The book (ISBN 978 0 7509 6989 5 Published in 1917 by The History Press) was written by Ray Clark who has worked for BBC Radion and Radion Caroline amongst others). NB – I have no connection with the book, the author or the publisher. Check out https://www.ukrockfestivals.com/weeley-festival-prog.html for more information
  3. Outstanding !!! Thank you. That video brought back so many memories, mostly good, some not so good. I bought 'Cheap Trick Live At Budokan' 12" vinyl LP from HMV in Oxford purely on the strength of 'I Want You To Want Me'. A massively under-rated live album that I played relentlessly. I've moved house and changed situation several times since then and I guess the LP got mislaid in the associated chaos - time to find another copy.

  8. The inverse of the thread started by Jotto SW1. This one is for Bands/Artists that you generally dislike, but you find yourself liking a few isolated songs. I'll start with :: QUEEN - 'Another One Bites The Dust' and 'Tie Your Mother Down' ABBA - 'Does Your Mother Know' and 'On And On And On' GENESIS - 'Dance On A Volcano' , 'Los Endos' and 'Squonk' (The live versions from 'Seconds Out') MEATLOAF - 'Promised Land' (Live at Wembley)
  9. Yep - I'll take both pairs please. PM incoming

  20. 'Get Lucky' - I think this is the worst 'funk' song ever. To my ears - it's not musical, the vocal is dire, and the song doesn't have a groove.
  21. I bought a Hohner B2ADB headless bass guitar, from Tomaso (TheSwing). A first-class transaction, no problems at all. Tomaso is a thoroughly nice person - he's well mannered, good humoured and has a seemingly boundless enthusiasm for bass. Excellent communications from initial enquiry to sale completion, with comprehensive details and information about the bass. Accurate directions to the collection location in East London - a really warm welcome when I arrived and the bass was plugged in and ready to try. Thanks Tomaso, it has been a pleasure doing BC business with you sir. Chris.
