Yeah, talented and successful. Where's my pitchfork? I'm fairly sure he'd cope just fine plodding along down The Frog & Gristle on a Friday night. There's plenty of revered bassists that I can't stand, and could claim that they just play pointlessly fast runs of notes that have very little musical merit, but I don't because clearly others like them. People like what Charles Berthoud does, otherwise he wouldn't keep popping up in places, and it showcases our favoured instrument to a wider audience. If that makes a few people delve deeper and even take up bass then I really can't see the problem.

Well it had to happen one day. For a long time I've had low level GAS for a Hayman or Shergold and that GAS built up and finally released when @AndyTravisput his Marathon up for sale. I've got an Eastwood Hooky 6 which is a faithful copy of the Marathon six string bass but I just fancied an original 'Hand Crafted in London' Shergold four string, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. A very Precision bass like tone but a touch more aggressive maybe, like a tiny smidge of Rickenbacker had been infused in a P. A bit of overdrive and you're in JJ Burnel territory. Tone down and it's still got plenty of vintage thump. Just lovely. Enough waffle... Pictures! 😁

Just realised after leaving feedback for another member that I never left Clarky feedback after buying his rather sexy Kay K162, apologies. Excellent person to deal with, I'd have absolutely no reservations dealing with Clarky again. And I'm still enjoying the Kay 😎

Look at your speakers. You can usually set the cut off level higher and you can hear the bottom end rumble disappear. But when it's set to just lose the inaudible rumble you can honestly see the speakers move less. I use an FDeck with doublebass through my PJB Suitcase and without the FDeck my little speakers were pumping back and forwards, switch the FDeck on and the sound is the same but my speakers are barely moving. Therefore my amp is getting a huge rest as well not having to produce all that power to move those speakers. I also find that the entire band sounds cleaner as a result of there being less subsonics in the room.

Saw Electric Six at Exeter Phoenix last Friday. Only a 500 capacity venue with very good sound, back to how gigs should be. Electric Six were fantastic, having fun but totally delivered the goods.
