  1. Five Colours In Her Hair - McFly Doo doo do do doo
  2. I've managed to do it again though and buy something which doesn't add up. 😁 I was trying to work out which incarnation of 56 bass this is and it doesn't match any I can find. The mix of 5 bolt neck fixing, satin hardware, wooden bridge saddle, two knob plus switch and the headstock decal doesn't seem to match anything. Maybe it's a bit of a bitsa.
  3. Dont know how that headstock photo ended up there but that's another discussion. 😁
  4. Hi all, welcome to the year of finishing stalled projects. 🙂 This was my plan last year (this year🤔, you know what I mean) but looking after increasingly unwell family members and fighting the black dog meant nothing got touched. Earlier this afternoon I decided to get off my derriere and do something about sorting these projects So let's kick off with this Danelectro 56 that I bought cheap about a year ago, as it should be a quick turnaround. My plan is just a quick respray with a couple of different touches. At first glance it's not in bad shape and could happily be used as is, but where's the fun in that 😉. A closer look reveals a lot of touch ups, random screw holes, some larger digs and a patch of paint missing on the side. A quick strip down and we have this Sanded all over with 240 and got rid of lighter digs. Filled the extra screw holes and sanded again with 240 ready for primer. All primed ready for a final prep tomorrow and it might get the basecoat tomorrow as I'll need that dry for the next step. It's not the usual way of painting but I'll go into detail why when I reveal (read have decided) what the final finish will be. I've got some bits on order which should be here next week so hopefully it can finish this next weekend or the one after.
  5. Fear of the Dark - I Ron Maiden
  6. Eruption - Van Halen
  7. It's not got the original bridge but has had a Badass replacement, which is no bad thing. I saw it it on the Vintage BB group for £440, but he has two ads on Marketplace, one is £400 so reply to that one if you do message him. It's been for sale for a while so he may be open to a cheeky offer 😁.
  8. Stick a pair of Entwistle JBXNs and a loom in there and you've got a great sounding and playing bass. I've got a pair in an Aria J and in series it sounds phenomenal. There's also a black 1100s on Facebook for £440 which seems like a bargain.
  9. Rain in the Summertime - The Alarm
  10. Big Log - Robert Plant... Yes, I am childish. 😁
  11. Up Around The Bend - Hanoi Rocks (prefer it to CCR)
  12. Armitage Shanks - Green Day
  13. You just abstain from buying anything bass related, unless it's for running repairs. Building new basses from already owned parts is fine. That was my plan last year. I've so many neglected projects that I didn't plan on buying anything. But then ano project popped up and I bought it. Due to even more time spent helping increasingly unwell family members I haven't even touched any projects this year.
  14. As the saying goes, the chase is better than the catch.
  15. I'm abstaining from the abstinence thread. Last year (this year?) from genuinely saying "I'm in", and not needing or looking to buy anything, I was out within about ten minutes. To be fare I don't think I've bought a bass since though.
  16. The whole thing is on YouTube, not the best quality visually but that's part of the charm.
  17. I'm just settling down to a Christmas tradition of Chas & Daves Christmas Knees Up. BB1200 loveliness.
  18. Yamaha BB424X 😉
  19. My Japan 1100s has a hex nut. When I bought it there was already a very handy normal 1/4 drive 8mm (I think from memory) socket on there with a pair of holes drilled right through the sides at right angles to each other to allow you to use a small screwdriver, allen key, etc to turn the trussrod like a Stingray. It lives on there permanently. A simple, but very useful idea. To hell with it, vanity shot, ain't she perdy. 😁
  20. £1200 this time and flew out the door.
  21. @Eldon Tyrell Well that sold fast! I saw the sellers post this morning that he'd put your old 1200 on Reverb. Clicked the link all excited and it was already sold. Only listed last night. To be honest it was a bit steep for me as an impulse buy but must've been a fair price to sell so quickly. It did look fantastic though. 😍 https://reverb.com/item/77454231-yamaha-bb1200-1978-sunburst?publish_confirmation=true&fbclid=IwAR1QQaJQCVWpo0qeprZ_1VWP25vq_Qq1bffXV1tncjFzypePPnoJNf-1P4s
  22. Johnny Remember Me - John Leyton
  23. It's only a cheapy but the Eden Glowplug tube warmer does exactly what you're after. Whether you like it's sound or not is another matter but I really like it. It is fairly overdrive heavy but set low it just adds a nice growly warmth. Only downside, for me, is that it uses a 15v supply.
  24. I too have a black Club Ignition and made a new control plate and pickguard in plain cream as I didn't like the white standard ones. With hindsight I think you're right and I totally should have just converted to a stack knob volume/tone for each pickup. I kept it standard as that's how it 'should' be but it really would benefit from actually having a normal tone control I feel. I tend to leave both pickups switches on and roll the bridge pickup volume up and down to brighten or darken the tone.
