Just don't pay for it, no need to raise a dispute or anything. That's for him to do if he wants, they can't force you to pay for something, especially if a fool has listed it wrongly.
If you don't raise a dispute he'll raise one against the OP as a non-paying bidder in order to avoid the auction fees. If undisputed it will lead to a strike against Maude's Ebay account, which might not amount to much but can be easily avoided by just reporting it to Ebay.

Markbass - all made in Indonesia now and heavy?
Musky replied to phatbass787's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think you've hit the nail on the head. A few years ago a well respected US manufacturer was pulled up when it was pointed out cabs made by them couldn't possibly meet the specs quoted on their website. To the manufacturer's credit an apology was issued and the specs amended. In mitigation it was said that they felt compelled to when their competitors resorted to fiction as well. If people didn't compile shortlists based purely on specs none of this would happen. -
I may be reading this the wrong way but are you saying we shouldn't believe the specifications given on websites?
JTUK may not be saying it, but I certainly believe a degree of circumspection is required when reading the specs on some manufacturer's websites. Many mislead by failing to give meaningful parameters, whilst a few will outright lie. -
I think from a buying point of view there's far more to consider than the size of driver and it's ability to shift air. The SVT is hardly cutting edge technology yet 45 years on there are plenty of people who still like it. It may have had the drivers updated several times, but from a technical POV they're still not great. It may be better to say what sort of sound you're looking for and try for some recommendations on here.

Q's regarding the Marshall Dynamic Bass System 7400
Musky replied to JensWest's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thank you for your answer, Musky! But, will the amp deliver 400 W at 4 or 2 Ohm?
It'll be 400w at 2 ohms and approximately 270w at 4 ohms. -
Q's regarding the Marshall Dynamic Bass System 7400
Musky replied to JensWest's topic in Amps and Cabs
If both cabs are the same then using two 4 ohms cabs will be about 5dB louder - 3dB from the extra speaker and about 2dB from a typical 50% increase in power by running at half the impedance. Edit: You'll get an improved LF output as well. -

TILT BACK CAB/AMP STAND? Which one to buy...
Musky replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Accessories and Misc
Can't recommend it from personal use, but I've been looking at the Standback recently. Takes 100lbs apparently. -
I bet you played above the 7th fret as well. Naughty boy. They'll all expect it now.

I've seen Guyatone guitars very similar to that bass. Guyatone were a big manufacturer in the sixties and produced for a number of other brands. Perhaps Tuxedo was one of them?

i've just realised i don't know how a bass guitar works!?!
Musky replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
but.....does a low voltage give the low notes and the higher voltage the higher tones or is it more a function of current?
Neither. It's a function of the frequency of the AC oscillations created by the string moving through a magnetic field. -
Very interesting Japanese Fender & other make's brochures through the years
Musky replied to gjones's topic in Bass Guitars
Yes the wood fibre Squiers were before the Silver Series (which were basswood), according to the brochures. Most stuff you read says that only Korean Squiers were wood fibre but it looks like, for a short while, Japanese built ones were too.
There was a guy on Talkbass who had a Silver Series J (from '96 IIRC) made from MDF. It seemed a little odd to me as I had thought they were all made of basswood. Then I remembered FujiGen also made the Ibanez Talman - out of MDF. -
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. The Mark IV and teardrop Mark III instruments were definitely iconic and just scream the era they were built in. The same could be said of the Steinburger L2, but unlike the L2 these were not designed by anyone who had to actually play them.

If you're looking to jam with a drummer sooner rather than later you might be better off getting a bigger more powerful amp. Personally I think the only reason (other than cost) for getting a little practice amp is any domestic considerations. For the sort of money you're looking you can pickup a used Peavey TNT.
I borrowed one of these for about a week around 1973 (ish). Holds the crown as just about the most impossible body shape to play in the seated position I've ever come across. Had to constantly hold the neck up while the back end relentlessly drove toward the right (as the slope travelled across the thigh). I gave up, having found the bass unplayable. Couldn't afford a strap then. Ah, the good old days ....
That's what happens when you get the Design Council to design a bass...

Wadayatalkinbout. Actually the most horrible thing about the one in the link is the fact it's a bitsa with loads of parts that were never on a proper Vox. And it's hideously overpriced.

Class D amps - do the manufacturers know what they are trying to do?
Musky replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
The argument on the sonic variations and controls on the front of the amp surely apply to the preamp stage, and not the power amp stage of the amplifier? This means the disgust with new features on an amplifier are related to the input and preamp stages. The argument over whether it is class A, B or D would be irrelevant. The question for this thread should therefore be: "Do these amplifier designers know what they're doing with the input stages?!" (or something equivalent). Unless I am mistaken?
This is an excellent point. Perhaps it's the case that Class D is flavour of the month and the designers (or marketing department) wanted to fill the preamps with as many flavour of the month features as possible? Although there are also non-compact amps that also manage to do this. -
I have a very similar set on a Hondo Jazz. I suspect Jon will be along soon to solve the mystery.
Just what I was thinking. About Jon that is. Rounded J pups like that ended up on a lot of 70's Japanese basses.

All gone now!
Musky replied to tommorichards's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I'm not sure there's a huge amount left to be said. They were standard equipment on Arias in the early eighties, from the SB1000 to the CSB300, the only differences being the more expensive ones were brass (eighties-tastic!), some were gold plated and they came in wide or narrow string spacing. They also made the Badass (which it appeared to be based on) look like a BBOT and had the benefit of a quick release system (which the Badass doesn't). Noelk27 is quite up on Arias, maybe he can chip in. -

Class D amps - do the manufacturers know what they are trying to do?
Musky replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
Those are my impressions too Chris. Yes I`m yet to find an amp that is exactly perfect for me - Markbass add compression, drive and a tuner to your amps please - but on the whole Class Ds give volume and portability which after all, bassists have/had been moaning for years about the fact that generally lightweight amps weren`t powerful enough. I`ve had many of the Class D heads (though I understand Markbass, or some of them inc mine are Class A) and they`ve all been very good. My reason for choosing Markbass is due to how it sounds in a band setting (plus power and lightweight of course).
That's unlikely as class A amps are quite inefficient. Class A/B or Class A pre-amp maybe (all pre-amps are Class A but that doesn't stop manufacturers boasting about them )? -
if by cut through you mean a middy tone - then Eq is your friend. if you cut through you mean "be heard" got over to your guitarists and tell each of them to cut the bass on their amps....
+1 Also bear in mind that sometimes you've got to go with a tone that doesn't sound great to your ears soloed but fits in with the mix.

Continued Mistakes at Gigs.....how would you address this problem?
Musky replied to thebigyin's topic in General Discussion
... and does it happen at rehearsals in the same way?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Is he suffering from nerves perhaps? Or maybe rocking out and throwing a few shapes on stage or something? -
Havent had chance to try one yet but all this certainly looks good for Ashdown's ABM NEO line, UK built, Marine Ply and Italian Sica NEO drivers.... Well priced for the specs too and light. Looks like Ashdown are now out Markbassing Markbass lol ;-) http://ashdownmusic.com/products/1/Bass-Amplification/13/ABM-NEO/
You need to take out a banner ad for that post.
