For the next 364 days you expect a totally unqualified person to ensure the car stays in the same condition.

I reckon this is how the human race will eventually end; drowned in regulations and nobody being able to do anything without training or sign-off by a 'competent person' and an associated insurance policy.

It's a gradual dumbing-down of responsibility while the nanny state does everything for them and insists that they don't need to think for themselves in favour of using a 'competent person' instead. THAT's what I'm suggesting is the real problem with all this, not the PAT testing itself.
I'm getting very confused. The logic of you argument seems to suggest that more regulation is needed to prevent unqualified persons 'maintaining' their equipment, whilst simultaneously arguing that there is too much regulation. Or are you saying that you are responsible and competent and therefore don't need anyone else questioning your competency?

With that set up I'd be inclined to leave the 115 on top as it's sometimes tempting to reach for the volume control during the gig. With the 410 putting out more volume it will quite likely mask the 115 distorting, particularly so if it's at ear level. As it stands your 115 may be at risk, not so much from its lower power handling but from over-excursion of the cone. Something to watch out for especially if you like boosting the bass and/or play at high volume.

strange question: regarding cordless keyboard /mouse..
Musky replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I only got this at Christmas . I use safari btw
I found the Apple keyboard ate batteries, and took to pulling them when it wasn't in use. I don't think the batteries in the mouse went but after 3 changes on the keyboard I reverted back to the wired versions. -
Hi, I recently let the smoke out of my asdown abm c115 and have purchased a GK 1001rb head, a hartke 200 watt 8ohm 15" and a 400 watt 4.5xl 4x10". Does this all add up with regards to ohms and wattage? Any advice greatly received.
What's the impedance on the 410? If it's 8 ohm as well, equal wattage will be sent to both cabs, meaning potentially the Hartke could be getting 350w. That coupled with the fact that the 410 will dominate the sound might mean that you wouldn't hear the 1x15 farting out (which will happen well before it's rated 200w).

Grover tuners on a Rick 4003 - A criminal act to replace them?
Do you know anyone either into silversmithing/jewellery or modelling? They may be able to repair the tuner instead of buying a replacement.
+1 Those Grovers are renowned for falling to bits. There's been a lot of threads on RickResource on this very subject. Edit: A cursory search reveals this thread. Doubtless a bit more time would find some more details. -
strange question: regarding cordless keyboard /mouse..
I seem to be getting latency when writing a post. its as if the forum software is missing out letters because I'm typing too quickly, and there is no chance of that with my one finger method Is this what you mean ? or is it like my Samsung Galaxy tablet that seem to "bounce" the web page ?
Using IE? I know others have reported the same problem. -
I thought the Mastotron had a variable impedance buffer built in to the input anyway? So like the others say, if you need to use a fuzz that's sensitive to the input impedance don't use it after another buffered pedal.
And like a lot of others,I wish to simplify things by having only one.
Who? Who are these people? Seriously, I think the Groove basses go for the bottom end of BassBus's estimate. Perhaps a little lower.

The Line 6 Studio 110 is only a few mm larger than a 12" cube (it's 305mm).
Bear in mind that if it's a tone stack EQ, 'flat' may not mean having all the controls level. I remember on the Hartke LH500 I had (lovely amp too) there was an obvious scoop in the mids with everything pointing to 12 O'Clock.
This exactly. We're dealing with a Fender tone stack here. A flat response is going to be something like Bass=0 Mid=10 Treble=0. Boosting the mids just isn't going to happen with this amp's tone controls alone. Just to throw another spanner into the mix, they're very interactive and don't really work as you'd expect. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/fender-alembic-bbe-tone-stack-explained-491699/ And I'm pretty far from sure that boosting the mids is really what's needed for a "good rock tone".
-
Tone stack?
The tone controls. The term is used pretty much exclusively for the simple Treble, Mid and Bass controls found on traditional amps like Fender and Marshall.
-
Depends entirely on the rig and bass. Assuming you're using the gear listed beneath your avatar, bear in mind that the V Type preamps have a natural mid scoop, in common with all amps that use the Fender tonestack. First thought would be to leave it fairly flat, maybe with a bit more of a mid cut, but then I've never tried that combo. Presumably there's an EQ section on the Zoom?
Revisit my previous post....and think about it..............
It's this bit that requires the most thought.
[Fender] have in fact a complete stranglehold on the current bass guitar market.
It's just completely untrue. Fender would be wetting themselves at the very thought that they might achieve even a 50% market share, and then that IPO could go ahead as planned. They are certainly the market leader in electric guitars/basses but there are many, many other brands successfully competing. Fender don't even claim they're the market leader in terms of volume, just in revenue. Just a quick look at peoples sigs on this forum would reveal that Fender are nowhere near having a stranglehold on the market. Disliking a brand's apparent ubiquity is a good enough reason to buy something else though.
-
The main riff sounds like it's doubled with a fuzzed up guitar. I think I'd probably just go with some distortion on the bass and lose plenty of treble on the tone controls.
-
Perhaps you could cut down a 5 string bridge? Probably won't be pretty but they usually have narrower string spacing.
A bit more expensive than when it was previously listed. No idea how you could come up with a date for this if there's nothing penciled on the neck. That serial is very late though - something to be aware of is that some early SQ instruments received JV neck plates. Quite different beasts though.

As everyone says, an Aerodyne. Fender Japan have been operating for over 30 years now and offer quality comparable to the US versions. Just warn your friend that he can expect to pay about 25% on top of that price in VAT and duty.
Where are you trying to download from?
+1 If it's an attachment on Basschat there's a weird glitch in the forum software that renames the file extensions (they're changed to .ipb if I remember correctly). If you can download but not open it, just change the extension. It'll probably be .mp3 if it's music or .pdf for notation.

Class D amps - do the manufacturers know what they are trying to do?
Musky replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
I am 100% with this. The whole attraction of my Orange Terror Bass is that it only has four knobs, and two of them don't do anything. In the world of "real amps" my Matamp also has four controls, three of which might as well be welded in place because I never touch them. Anything that allows you a hundred ways to improve your sound also offers you:

a hundred ways to screw it up
a load of distractions when playing live
endless possibilities of annoying your bandmates
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Ah, but your Terror also has a DI, effects loop and and a gain control. Even that knob for mids is a bit suspect. Bells and whistles I tell you. -
I would check that the shielding isn't in contact with the signal path in anyway, so check around the solder points or for micks in the wiring insulation. It's also possible the problem is around the jack socket as this can come into contact with the shielding (I've no idea whether the cavity on the Bison is lined). And yes, the shielding can carry a current (albeit tiny) as it's connected to ground. Or at least it should be.

Jazz neck fitted on this - I'm sure that will appeal to some. Do Squier do any other passive P's with a Jazz neck?

Musky replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
The more bells and whistles means more stuff to go wrong. Any amp with a control called Kosmos and lights that you can change the colour of is not for me.
I think I could live with 'Kosmos', but I'd definitely be looking for a way to disable those lights. -
Class D amps - do the manufacturers know what they are trying to do?
Musky replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'm not sure this is a problem with class D amps per se. Being 'old school' didn't stop Trace coming up with the MP11. I think it's the case that electronics in general are getting cheaper, so adding features is relatively inexpensive. So we get more and more power, and a greater number of bells and whistles. Over the years manufacturers have often tried to differentiate themselves with more perceived VFM by adding a feature or two, even if their actual value is limited.
