1. If that is a date in the dark stamp, it would translate into a Western calendar as 12th November 1979.
 2. Songsterr?
 3. Like everyone else says, it's not so much about whether to talk or not but about the actual execution. Plenty of originals bands talk between numbers, and some are well known for it, but pointless cliched wittering is about as welcome as it would be in a conversation.
 4. Thanks for the update. It's always nice to know when someone has an interest in a company, so others can judge their comments in that light. It's a shame others don't feel the need (or are required to, as on Talkbass). A great way to get your hands on some gear without going down the endorsement route as well.
 5.
Mine was 8.5 lbs, which I thought was heavy for a semi-acoustic bass. It's way heavier than any of the other semi-acoustics I've owned (Hofner President, Hofner Violin, Hofner Club bass). Sure, it's not 70's P bass weight, but I was surprised by the weight for a semi.
If those were the German made items they're true hollow bodies with nothing beneath the top. Most hollow bodied instruments, including the JC, have a centre block which inevitably adds to the weight and would probably come as a surprise if you're used to genuinely hollow bodies. As far as I know the cheaper models in Hofner's range all have centre blocks though, so maybe that's not the case.
 6.
LOL On a serious note, can this happen easily with amps?
It'll depend on the amp, but yes it can happen. It's easy for manufacturers to prevent damage from phantom power by blocking with caps or by using a simple passive transformer based DI, but not all amps do this. Personally I always use a separate DI box.
 7.
Maybe a different amp is what you need?
Exactly what I was thinking. Better get saving for a B15.
 8.
thanks guys, the amp only has one speaker output on the rear to the internal speaker (combo) no extension however, as its physically "plugged" in I suppose I could disconnect and use the one output to an external cab (but obviously without the internal trace speaker). that's not an issue as yet as i'm only a rockstar in my own bedroom. no, my issue is simply lack of knowledge / understanding of how to operate the amp to it's full potential. I NEED THE MANUAL !!! also, year of manufacture would be good to know....I emailed trace Elliot but am waiting for a reply..as i'm also after a cover for the amp.
Roqsolid get a lot of love around here for their covers. Whatever you do DON'T go with Silverstone - many people have had bad experiences with them.
 9.
I took a chance on the PF800 after hearing tons of issues about the 500. So far the 800 has been perfect (touch wood!). Dunno if Ampeg changed something with this model?
Well the power amp is definitely different and I'd assume that it's the power section that the PF500 has issues with. Does anybody know exactly what it is that fails in these amps? Although given that there seems to be 10 iterations of the thing the problem seems to be more deep seated than one particular aspect of the design.
 10. You've got the bass, what are your thoughts? If it's not a Squier II an S9 serial number indicates it was made around '89/90 by Samick. It should have a date on the neck.
 11.
Count yourself, you just can't beat it.
You can't count yourself in when you don't know where a track starts. That's why in the studio tap ins are created when tracks are being independently or someone counts in playing live - so you've got a cue. This is the OP's problem, he needs a to create a click to cue him for the song. Bass2345, download Audacity (freeware) and follow the instructions here. There are also plenty of free BPM calculators/counters/analysers available both online and as downloads.
 12. This has cropped up a few times in recent months. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/216689-ebay-global-postage-system http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227346-ebays-global-postage-programme Long story short: You shouldn't have to pay any extra tax/duty, but it introduces a middle man that takes a cut.
 13. I think the point was that he's trying to play along to other peoples' music without missing the first few notes when the bass kicks off the song. Audacity is the way forward, and an online BPM calculator should help with getting the tempo right.
 14.
Do you have any Wizard's you could start the archive off with?
Sadly not. That's why I was getting so excited by someone taking up making them again.
 15.
Well, that's a different company
True. It'll be interesting to see how the new company stacks up against the old.
 16.
I have lost the original ash tray from the Bridge that was on my Kimberly (didn't like the styling when I first got it) and after a quick scan on the t'interweb, I've found a couple, but http://www.gear4musi..._kword__match__ Currently is winning, as it has no logos but if you have any thoughts on a "boxier" version that is closer to the original, I'm open to suggestions! Going to get the Doc to make me a one piece pickguard in black and then new ones of the originals.
One like this? Might be an idea to get the dimensions first, although you could always rely on the distance selling regulations.
 17. It's not over 'til the fat lady sings. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229015-whats-like-wizard-84s-but-not-wizard-84s/page__view__findpost__p__2360142
 18.
Purely hypothetically, if port area were too small for the power levels being used then a relative loss of bass as volume increases is exactly what you'd expect. Port compression should start to kick in as airflow resistance increases, before onset of more obviously objectionable chuffing. This is something we have talked about a lot and would like to address empirically with the prototype. Simulations and anecdotal reports on air speed suggest that with long throw woofers, port size is usually inadequate and this is as much or more of a limiting factor than xmax.
Cheers for clearing that up Lawrence. Every day is a school day.
 19.
What opinion - that human intelligence is declining? That's what the research is suggesting. An uncomfortable truth perhaps? And why does the Huff link not support my opinion? If humans are becoming less intelligent then surely they are more likely to do dumb things instead of living by their wits. Seems to me there's plenty of dumbing-down legislation to help people not having to think about things for themselves. But hey, none of this really matters because we're not going to change things are we? Just like that frog Times have indeed changed.
Sorry, but I think this has just now over-stepped the line marked 'faintly ridiculous'.
 20. Bump for some potentially good news! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229015-whats-like-wizard-84s-but-not-wizard-84s/page__view__findpost__p__2360142
 21.
Hold your horses gents! We've used wizard pickups in all our instruments so far. Great pickups! Since he retired we have been using Catswhisker pickups which are just as good!! Allan at Catswhisker is fantastic to deal with and also is more open to custom options! Also supporting a small british business is always a good option! I've had word from andy at wizard recently that some lucky chap bought all his stock / specs etc and expects this new fella to start up making pickups in April! Keep your eyes peeled! I'll post more info if / when i come across it Cheers Chris Alpher instruments
Now there's good news.
 22. I've noticed the SR300 gets a lot of love if you're after something new. Used would buy you more though.
 23.
Thanks !! Added all of them except HH which doesn't seem to have any cabs (not combos).
They fall into the discontinued category as well. Best not go there or this could turn into a much, much longer list.
 24.
Thanks again Stevie. The 3015LF loaded Flite cab sounds great at moderate volumes, but I fear it loses deep bass at higher volumes as you suggest.
That's a little odd as bass is perceived as more prominent as volume increases. Compare the difference in perceived volume of the bass at 30hz at 40db and 100db. I really don't know enough about cab design to know whether the 3015 in a small cab would drop off at the bottom end as the volume increases though.
The Flite cabs are wonderfully light and sound good, whilst not giving me the kind of chest thumping depth of an old school 2x18 or 8x10.
Would that be an Ampeg 810? They're not known for earth shaking lows but they are strong in the low mids (as are the matching amps). This might beg the question of whether what you're looking for is really lots of very low bass.
 25.
Now there's a really 'competent person' right there - certificate or no certificate!
Sure. But the Band Leader wasn't. Of course everyone should look after their own safety, and the safety of others. It's just that plenty of people don't know what is safe, including how to wire a plug even if they've done it dozens of times. It can be quite difficult to know what you don't know.
