thanks guys. i'm just waiting on delivery of 2 adapters so I can connect rca plugs to 1/4" jacks in the mixer. i'll let you know how I get on in due course...

cheers for the advice mate. i'll try running from line out (control room out) on the mixer to the mic in on the laptop first before spending any more money on a usb interface. I did all this a number of years ago with the exact same mixer but with a desktop pc on windows xp and I never had this problem. i''m not very computer literate and I have trouble with windows 8 generally. problem is, it was so long ago I can't remember how I did it ! onwards.....all / any advice very welcome. for all the sound quality fed into the laptop, wouldn't a crappy soundcard render it futile ?

hi guys, i'm new to basschat and was wondering if anyone can help me out? I just bought a small mixer for doing home recordings..my objective is to do bass playalongs / tutorial videos which I can upload to sites like this one and youtube etc..I am working in a small box room and have a hi-fi connected to the mixer so I can play along to cd's etc..my bass is connected to the mixer and I monitor my sound thru my headphones..i want to record myself playing along to tracks using nhc videopad editor on my laptop but I don't know how to connect the laptop to the mixer so all the recording goes into the video editing programme to enable me to post videos. there is a 3.5mm female jack on the laptop for headphones and also a 3.5mm female jack for mic on the laptop and there are 2 sets of rca connectors on the back of my hifi. one set of rca's on the hifi (THE LINE OUT) are connected to the mixer. I have a 3.5 mm jack connected to the laptops headphone socket running to 2 rca plugs connected to the mixer but it sounds terrible. i'm beginning to think the laptops soundcard isn't up to the job..also, even though i'm physically connecting the laptop to the mixer, nothing seems to be going to the video editing programme...when I record a video clip I can obviously see myself on the playback but the only sound from the recorded image is the strings on the bass (unamplified) and a very poor quality and hardly audible recording of the track i'm hearing in the headphones. can anyone help me please ? ps i'm t very tech savvy where computers are concerned.

thanks guys, the amp only has one speaker output on the rear to the internal speaker (combo) no extension however, as its physically "plugged" in I suppose I could disconnect and use the one output to an external cab (but obviously without the internal trace speaker). that's not an issue as yet as i'm only a rockstar in my own bedroom. no, my issue is simply lack of knowledge / understanding of how to operate the amp to it's full potential. I NEED THE MANUAL !!! also, year of manufacture would be good to know....I emailed trace Elliot but am waiting for a reply..as i'm also after a cover for the amp.

I am a 49 year old bass player. been playing on & off for 35 years since I was 14. for the last 3 1/2 years I havn't played as, being a respectable neighbour and living in a flat, it would have been too much hassle. ANYHOW my circumstances have now changed and i'm taking up the bass again. now i'll get to the point..today I bought an amp.the amp is used but in MINT condition. problem is, as it's used, theres no operators manual, the amp is a TRACE ELLIOT 715 GP7 150 watt combo, can anyone help ?
