1.
Or 14 years as you said in the first post? Why did ebay remove your listing?
I can help there Chris. It's the Squier body that he's had for 14 years - the neck came attached to a 'home made' body, bought from a shop in Leyton/leytonstone 10 years ago. And it was ebay that removed the listing for reasons as yet unknown. Oh and his ebay username is ravenchorus. He's based in Kent.
  2. Strange. I wondered if it was the stipulation of cash or cheques only, but his other auctions are still intact. Maybe it was the cheeky hint that he was looking for a Rickenbacker copy riled the Rick police?
  3.
"Dear sir/madam Just to clarify this is not a valve amp it is clearly solid state also it is much more likely from the 80's than the 70's. May I also suggest you may want to lower your starting price in this climate you could but an Ampeg all valve SVT 600W for the same price and get change. Kind regards Wayne"
I've got a fair idea he already knows all that Wayne. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=824287 Same amp, missing jack socket nut and all!
  4. Hah! I thought that user name looked familiar, and when I started reading all became clear. A friend phoned me up yesterday asking about his bass - with an old neck and Squier body. I haven't seen it, but from his description I gave him the info on this. So yeah, from the description he gave this is kosher. I reckon the neck is probably 1976/1977 (Precisions used the older tuners occasionally during these years). I pointed him towards this forum in his hunt for a Rickenfaker, so maybe he'll chip in!
  5.
that amp has played in a lot of gigs dont diss it ha ha ha ha 20 watts of pure power!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, don't knock it! It "easily hits the same sound level and power of a 30 watt amp"!
  6. Wow. That Aria is a total bargain - I'd so have that if I was anywhere near Lancashire.
  7.
How's it going? Tallying the marks on the BB1600 fretless with Bartolinis I picked up from Wunjo recently, I seem to have this bass! With new strings and a little attention paid to the action it's a really magical instrument now. Great to find the previous owner. Best Dave
Welcome to the forum! That's one of the great things about this place - plenty of people have discovered (and even bought back!) old basses they once owned. It's nice for the current owner to find out a bit of it's history as well.
  8. Have you tried looking at the Epiphone Rivoli? It was basically identical to the EB2 bar the headstock shape. The dearmond Starfire is another semi in a similar vein that might be worth looking at. Both discontinued now, so you'd have to scout around for one.
  9.
You could always stick a grill on the front like David L Perry (see threads on this site and BFM's) - makes the designs look a lot more "normal"
+1 I don't much like the look of the horns on the BFM cabs, but David's cabs look the dog's nads with metal grills. Cloth grills are doable as well.
  10. Blimey - a cautionary tale for us all. I've left my RCD in the cupboard for the last few years. I think it's time to stop being so complacent and make it an 'essential' to take along when playing. Glad you're relatively unscathed anyway.
  11.
LOL, I was drunk one night, bid on said bass, went to seller's house the next day to collect (a mid-50's lady who knew nothing about basses other than that it was worth several thousand aparently, played the £50 piece of crap and walked out shaking my head. The neckplate MIGHT be genuine. The current seller bought it for around £500. I emailed him to say that he was taking the piss as - as a dealer - he must know it's a ringer. He replied saying the serial number proves it's a CS. If I thought ebay would do anything I'd report him. Chris
I was hoping you'd chip in Chris. That pretty much confirms what everyone suspected. Plays as well as a £50 piece of crap? Was it really that bad?
  12. Dolphin are now listing these as 'overdue'. No sh1t! You've got to wonder the issues with these are, as they're now at least 6 months over due with release dates coming and going faster than punters at a Bangkok whorehouse. Manufacturing/reliability issues? I don't find Ashdown's silence on the matter entirely comforting.
  13. The American Traditional series were built with US body and neck with Mexican hardware as far as I know. Actually assembled in Mexico. Unless someone knows differently?
  14.
they don't do velcro, but have you checked out johnnyshredfreak.com (sorry, I'd post a link if I weren't a complete luddite)
I think the link you meant is http://www.johnnyshredfreak.com/store/inde...4cc8698e6c7cf7d Haven't seen those before. Good idea as long as you don't like to change your board around a lot.

    Dilemma

Maybe have a word with Jon Shuker. He does P style basses and could make the neck to your preferred shape. In fact any decent luthier could knock up what you want.
  16.
Hells bells are just one big revolving door of musicians. The Leader of the band is unbearable and very unlikeable. He has the ego the size of a skyscraper and shows. A friend of mine is the bass player and he just cant stand it and would leave if it wasent for the money. Rob.
He's likely to get sacked if the ego maniac sees that!
  17. Has anyone ever done this themselves? I've got a short scale bass that's throwing me a few loops as I'm not really used to playing with a shorter scale and find myself going for the wrong frets. It doesn't help that the bass hangs differently to the ones I usually play either. So seeing as it doesn't have any side markers I thought I'd add some. I know you can buy the material for this on the web, but I'm wondering if that's the best way forward. I'm rather concerned about how difficult it might be to level the marker without doing too much damage to the side of the neck/fingerboard. Another option might be to use some kind of filler. Any suggestions about the best way forward and the chances of success with nothing more than a hand held drill will be gratefully received!
  18. Gotta say I love the thread title!
  19. The contemporary series were MIJ Fenders that were introduced in 1983. As you've probably spotted they didn't conform to the more vintage specs that Fender Japan had been knocking out, the guitars often sporting locking trems and/or humbuckers. They're usually easy to spot because of the painted headstocks, though some seem to have been produced without. A mates got a superstrat type thing and it's a very nice guitar.
  20.
I had a jap Fender resprayed at Morgan motors (Malvern) but I don't have any contacts there any more.
Just as a general query - has anyone else approached a car body sprayer to refinish a bass? It seems to me that this is a potentially cheap way of getting a respray if you're prepared to do the errrr... preparation. Especially as the current economic climate probably means places will be more likely to consider jobs they might not have thought of before.

If I was near Brum I'd snap that one up.
  22. These things were designed by Alan Entwistle. I seem to remember quite a favourable review for these things in Making Music, though it has to be said I can't remember whether it was for the guitar or bass version. Nice looking things I thought, and deserving of more attention than they garnered. I'll see if I can find the review if you're interested Kev.
  23.
And unbelievably someone hit the BIN button!!
I don't think they did - it ended bang on 7 days.
  24. Bloodaxe stuck a trem on one of his Arias. Maybe you could shoot him a PM to see how much difference it made.
  25. Now there's a pleasant surprise! Good to you back Chris.
