1. I've always used Andy Farrell with great results. He's near Ikea. When I've found his website I'll edit this post with the link.
2. I'm all up to date with the list. Electric Viper just need a small push (17 more at time of writing) to hit the 200 likes. If you haven't liked us, and even if you don't, please add your little thumbs up to our page. I'm so close to achieving god like status in the band as a result of this thread and hitting 200 likes may be the tipping point.
3.
Technically, this thread is "Bassess In/Basses Out 2014...", so how could your In/Out possibly change?!
Maybe the first purchase made in 2015 was a plutonium fuelled Delorian?
4. Perfect Stranger and Black Dog Company both take you to the about pages rather than the front page. In the spirit of collaboration: Black Dog Company http://www.facebook.com/blackdogco Perfect Stranger https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=415179171850699 I'm completely up to date now.
5. If you can record everything while auditioning then sit down as a band and listen to it you may notice something that you miss while you're all playing. One guy that we auditioned, for an old covers band that I was in, had great attitude and a fantastic tone to his voice. Things in the room were really rocking out and we were ready to offer it to him there and then. When we later gathered to listen to the recordings we noticed that his pitch was all over the place and his timing was really off on the critical phrases.
6. If every member of the bass chat community liked every other members bands would we have the most popular pages on Facebook? If so, would one post by one band cause the entirety of Facebook to crash?
7.
Badgers have had a like from me too, being Brizzle based I'll try and catch you soon out and about. Some more likes on the way. I'd love to get our page over the magic 100 barrier so if anyone wants to like us we are Black Dog Company based out of Bristol/Bath/Chippenham and our page is: https://www.facebook.com/blackdogco/info?tab=page_info&section=hometown&view Also a few links on there to some recent live demo recordings we did at Shockerwick studio in Bath. Thanks in advance. Steve
That's the second band on this lost that I've had the honour of being the 100th like
8. Out: erm nothing! In: SFX - X&M (thanks the wife I have no clue how you knew what I wanted for Christmas! ) Line 6 - G50 Dr Green - Bearded Lady What I've learned: The bearded lady is a lovely sounding fuzz pedal with a really poor ergonomic design. Every time you stamp on the switch you run the risk of changing your settings as the knobs are far to close to the switch. This was solved by building a loop pedal.
9. Pretty sure I've managed to keep up to date on this and have liked you all. My news feed has been pretty busy for the last couple of days!
10. Think I've liked everyone. I'll keep popping back and adding any new additions.
11. I'm not a number... I'm a free man! I was the 100th Angry Badger Like though
12. I'm rather (fashionably?) late to the party. My wonderful band we're all set to take the world by storm early in the new year (studio time and a lot of gigs booked) but we've had to reschedule our plans for global domination as our guitarist managed to obliterate his ankle on his works Christmas do. Help his recuperation by throwing a cheap like our way. We're Electric Viper. Hard Rock and Metal from the East Midlands (Derby ish). http://www.facebook.com/ElectricViperBand Thanks guys
13.
Okay, so that makes a lot of sense to me now. So really this amp won't be of too much use to me at home but it will come into it's own when I need to play with others. If you can't replicate your live sound through headphones and may also need an amp to be used at a high volume to get the best out of it then I clearly need either a practice amp or a Vox amplug. Having said that, I can get my hands on a Zoom B1, which will also allow me to use my pedals. Also, I assume it's normal for a combo like this to sound like an old PC when it's running? I was surprised when I first switched it on and expected it to stop after a warming up period but it never did.
Sounds like an old and dirty fan. You could try cleaning it, or working out what fan you need to replace it with.
14. We have an intro on a phone. Make sure the bloody thing is in flight mode! Our singist uses some forms of TC helicon thing and is phone is plugged in to some forms of aux in on that. Short lead for the "we're on stage short intro" long lead for the "side of stage entrance intro"
15. No-one has mentioned hipshot? Drop D tuning is your friend here as the octaves are on the same fret. No cramp inducing stretches and all muting can be done with either a change of finger angle or spare left hand fingers.
16. I was at the Nottingham show last week. You're in for a treat. The whole band were absolutely stunning for the whole show. Played Reckless in full, then some hits, then some obscure back catalogue stuff, then some covers, then a few more crowd pleasing favourites to close. No Mr Adams on bass this time I thought it was a very good night but it was somewhat overshadowed by the Volbeat show that I went to the following night. Enjoy
17.
I met one of my girlfriends (a good while ago now!) after a gig - she said, 'If you can handle a woman like you handle that bass then I'm the one for you!' ...or words to that effect. At first I thought she'd be all I'd ever need. Then I got bored with her, abused her for a while, alternated between her and another, kept her locked in a case under the bed for a bit, then traded her in for another one.
I kept hold of mine. I've updated the look a couple of times with gold and diamond finished trinkets. I've never been let down or felt like I ought to have a spare. The value is not exceptionally high but it's a completely unique model with strong sentimental attachment.
18. Hmm, I loved my thunderbird when I got it. I have the slightly older epiphone pro IV. Put the specs side by side with the Gibson of the time and they were identical except for the active pick ups. These had a solid rather than 3 point bridge. Anyway, I digress, after two years of loving that bass I picked up my old tanglewood and realised that, as my as I love the look and feel of a T-Bird, I prefer the sound of a PJ bass. As a result my T-Bird has sat unused for a while.
19. My full stack is the three cabs listed in my signature; it's never been gigged! My rehearsal rig is a 1x12 My go too gig rig I is 2 x 1x12 as they're stored in front of the 2x12 in my spare room. The master volume on my amp never gets past 10 o'clock and that's in a very loud rock band with a very heavy hitting drummer. I dream of playing a venue big enough to justify taking the full rig!
20. Getting a bit too close to the edge of the stage while rather enthused and finding I was suddenly flat on my back about two foot below stage level. I never missed a note
21. G30 is good, although there have been some reports of quality control issues. I went with the G50 while it is currently on offer everywhere.
22. Ah, the old stage attire conundrum. This caused the first of many arguments in my current band. I'm a big fan of the adage "Look like a band, feel like a band. Feel like a band, play like a band." so I suggested that we put some thought in to our "look/stagewear". I was told by our guitarist, in no uncertain terms, that he reserves the right to wear whatever he feels like on the day of the show. He then listed a huge array of clothing ideas that he might want to wear. So far he has turned up to every gig in a scruffy blue jeans and t-shirt combo. I decided that I would create my own stage attire for this band and gig wearing the following: Black Jeans White or black (smart casual) shirt with sleeves rolled to 3/4 length White (Cuban heeled) snakeskin cowboy boots White snakeskin belt Yes I do look a little out of place when walking through the streets of whatever town or city we're playing, but I'm a naturally confident person who has never really cared what people think about how I'm dressed, and you know what? I rock this look! The singer has started to make more of an effort to dress in a more dressed for the occasion style. He's also started having a pop at the guitarist saying things along the lines of "nice of you to make an effort" One day I'd like the band to revisit the idea of themed/coordinated stage attire, but for now I'm going to carry on looking like the eccentric bass player that I am.
23. Thanks for your help. I feel educated and better placed to tackle my new pedal board. I just need my Christmas presents to arrive so I can start figuring out size/layout.
24.
It's most likely a ferrite bead to block high frequency noise entering your pedal via the power supply.
That seems more than logical. I did wonder if it was some form of noise suppressor as I remember helping my dad fit something similar on an old car to prevent the alternator from interfering with the radio. With my rudimentary understanding of such things; if I place the new power supply as close as possible to the G50 receiver and keep the power cable as short as possible then I should notice no detrimental effects?
25. To take this query a little further: The line 6 power supply has a plastic lump between the transformer and the tip. Does anyone know what this is? Main reason for asking is that I'm planning my new pedal board and looking at potential power supply options and didn't know if losing this plastic lump might cause issues?
