To be honest with you I don't really know. I bought it used, about 6 months ago, from a guy who said it was about 18 months old. Whether it is actually two years old or not I couldn't say for certain. All I can tell you is that it's in good condition and has been looked after really well. Everything works as it should. None of the pots are scratchy. And it sounds beautiful. I really wish I had the space to keep it as I know I'll regret selling it. -

Right, here's my bass rig. It was for sale, at £700, in the new classifieds section before the site decided to carry on using the market place (a move that I fully support). It is with a heavy heart that I'm selling this rig, but the band I was in have ceased to exist and as such it's just not getting used. I've also been informed by [s]her who does not play bass[/s] the wife that it takes up too much space in the room that needs to be a nursery. The head is a Genz Benz GBE750 in good condition. It's housed in a Thon 5U flight case, so plenty of space for all the other rack mount goodies, with extra rails fitted at the back so I could wire it up from a rackmount, surge protected, 6 way socket bar; all of which is included in the sale. The Cab is a Genz Benz XB2-610T which is also in good condition. This is the old ad where pictures can be viewed, and links to the product specs, as I can't get the pictures to upload http://basschat.co.uk/classifieds/item/67-genz-benz-rig-definitely-for-sale/ I want this rig to go to a good home where it is going to be used as an amp rather than a door stop. I don't want to split this as I need to get rid of all of it to generate space for the nursery, however, if you do want just the Cab then message me as I have a list as long as my arm of people who've messaged me about buying the head. I'm located close to the M1 J28 so fairly central in the country if you wish to come and try out the beast. These are not light weight items so transfer of ownership would have to be by collection, although if you ask nicely and are willing to reimburse my travel costs then I might be able to meet half way or deliver in person. Thanks for looking. Please buy as it's getting close to having to list this on eBay. Cheers Dave

Hey guys, As some of you may know, I've been on the look out for a new head for a while. Well, over the weekend I managed to score a cracking deal on a new rig. As a result my faithful Ashdown 1x15 Cab is no longer required. It'll be a sad day to see it go but it's cluttering up valuable real estate in the rehearsal space, and I need to replenish some funds! At the moment I have no pictures available but I plan on getting in to the room with a camera either tonight or tomorrow night. Here's what I remember; It's in a well taken care of but gigged condition, a few scuffs here and there but nothing major. The cabs previous owner had a Speakon socket fitted in parallel with the two jack sockets, although I cannot confirm that the speakon socket works as I've never tested it. It produces the standard, old, warm rich Ashdown tones, as far as I'm aware it's a pre EVO version so it would be one of the British made models, although I've never tracked the serial number so again I can't validate this information. Oh, just in case anyone's wondering; it's the full size cab, not the compact. I can confirm that it fits in the boot of a ford focus. On to the money; I'm looking for somewhere close to £200 in a cash value. PM me with offers, I'm polite so the worst that I'll say is no. On the trade front; The reason I'm selling is to replenish funds so I can buy and EBS Octabass pedal. So if you have one of those that you're not using, and a bit of cash, then once again, PM me with an offer. Collection preferred, although other arrangements can be made This cab's not going to be around for long as if it doesn't move fairly quickly I'll chuck it on evilbay and take what I can get. Cheers for reading Dave -
I'll chime in on this one to agree with everyone else. What seems like a bad gig can sometimes be your perception. The band I'm in played in Derby last weekend. From my position on stage my bass sounded off, my playing sounded attrocious, I couldn't hear the guitar for 90% of the set! I felt it was the single worst gig the band had ever played. Oh how wrong was I? We set a new band record for merch sales, I had to spend the majority of the rest of the evening fending of people complimenting us, and the venue were on the phone the following day trying to re-book us for later in the year. Basically, seeing as though you're in the band, you don't get an opinion on how well a show went. The only people who are allowed an opinion on your shows are the crowd and the venue/promoter. So chalk it up to experience and keep working on being as tight as possible.

A bit of an update/further question. I'm still looking for a new amp, and I've still not made the trip to bass direct to try out any amps as the funds for purchase are still being gathered, but I think I've narrowed my choice down to one of two amps. Looking at the features I'm after I've hit upon either: A, Genz Benz GBE 750 or B, Genz Benz ShuttleMAX 9.2 I was wondering what fellow bass chatters thought of them and if anyone has done an AB comparison on them. Once again, any comments greatly appreciated. Dave

Only gig I have lined up anytime soon is The Meteors at The Hairy Dog in Derby. Saturday 11th August. I'll be the guy playing bass with the support act, Speed Kings. If any BC'ers are coming along to the gig then feel free to find me for a chat. Although we're going to be in the studio all day before the gig so I might be a little sleepy and none to chatty after we've played.

Hey guys, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. You've all provided me with some food for thought. The budget quoted is for the head only, plan being to buy the head, use it with my 1x15, sell the 4x10 combo, use money towards new cab, sell 1x15 cab, use money towards 2nd cab. I'm glad to see that so far everyone has much love for Markbass, everything I read about them seems to suggest that if I grab the right model it'll be exactly what I want. I've been considering the MoMark as that way I can have a SS preamp for my Rock Covers band and the crunchy valve preamp for my psycho/motor-billy band. The fact that people seem to be pointing me towards GK is bizarre, they're a manufacturer that I'd discounted off the cuff as last time I was looking for an amp they were up there with Ampeg on the price stakes and as such seemed to be a waste of money. It's probably because Flea was considered to be god by sooo many people and that's what he used. So that's two potential avenues to go down. The other two options I've come up with are the Genz Benz shuttle 6.2 or the SWR Headlite. Does anyone have any opinions on these, especially the headlite as that seems like it'll have to be a buy it, try it, and if I don't like it, sell it? As for the Cabs I'm looking for, so far I'm thinking: Purple Chili Barefaced Dr Bass Vanderkley or if I get a MarkBass head I might go all poser and get markbass cabs so it looks pretty on stage! Keep sending those ideas through for me. I'm reading all posts with great interest. Cheers Dave

Hey all, First a little about me. I've been playing bass for a lot of years now, think it's about 15 years but I can't remember when I started. My first amp was a little Trace Elliot Combo (one of the early commando's I believe). My second, and current, amp is an early Ashdown MAG 250 4x10 Combo with a 1x15 extension cab which I've had for approximately 10 years. Both of my amps have been purchased because I like the tone that I could achieve with them. My current situation is that I can no longer get the sound that I'm looking for from my amp, I think I've just reached the limit of what is possible from a solid state pre-amp, so I'm looking to get myself a new bass rig. I have been looking around the interweb for possible amps to pick up and potential cabs to go with, but I figured I'd ask you guys for some opinions on what might be worth getting. And before anybody says "go to a shop and try some out", that is my plan, but my local music shops think that all a bass player needs is a 30W Laney or Marshall 1x10 combo. So once I've got a few ideas I'll take a nice day out to a music shop a little further away and try out ones that I think will be what I'm looking for. So here's a breakdown of what I'm looking for. Amp, preferably rack mountable but not essential, somewhere in the region of 500W. I'm in two bands, one of which requires a clear rich tone which I can get from my Ashdown, the other band needs more of a crunching overdriven valve tone. Before anyone suggests the Ashdown ABM 500 Rackmount, I've considered it but I don't need all of the extra toys on it and I'd like something with all of the connections, except for the Input socket, on the back. As for budget on this purchase? I've not had financial approval from the wife yet. I'd like to stay below £1500 (for insurance purposes) and the closer to £500 we can get, the more likely it is to get a financial go ahead. Thanks for any advice you can give. Dave
