1. Last night was great. The sound wasn't brilliant, but the performance was good!
2. I will be there tomorrow. Taxi booked to take me down there in the morning and pick me up tomorrow night. If it's even half as good as Twickenham '08 then it is going to be incredible!
3. I tend to take my first bass (Tanglewood rebel) as a back up to my epi t-bird pro. I have them set up with the same strings and a similar tone out of the bass. In the event of a failure of the epi all I have to do is hit the buttons on the strap locks, swap the bass over, and tweak the pre amp volume on the amp by a couple of notchs to take in to account the reduction in output voltage. Never actually needed to swap mid set! Only issue I've ever run in to was breaking a Low E String in the sound check. That was back in the days of only having one bass. Fortunately I'd only just changed my strings and still had the old one in my case.
4. My favourite tune of all time has to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcXMTXjux1E&feature=youtube_gdata_player If it comes on when the ipod is on random the bass sends shivers down my spine. The added advantage of this being my favourite song is; if someone I've only just met asks me the question, and they've heard of the band, then I've probably made a friend for life.

6. Update: This is how it happened! Sale agreed. Removed bass from case to get weight for courier, discovered broken nut. Discussed options with buyer, way forward agreed. Took bass to luthier for new nut, set-up and strings. Contacted buyer when bass was ready, no response for a while. Buyer returns message after dealing with family bereavement. I agree to let the buyer have a few weeks to sort everything out before payment etc. In the meantime I have a bit of a play with what is now a stunning bass! I've not heard anything more from the buyer and I'm hoping it stays that way as I am now determined to master that extra string. Cheers Dave
7.
I played a gig just last night where I was told that the headlining band were sharing their drums and backline with all the supporting bands. I still messaged them, introduced myself, explained what I had been told, and asked if they were aware of this, and if they were OK with it. I strongly believe in sorting out equipment before you get to the venue... Although if somebody asks me if they can use my gear I am happy to oblige I'm headlining a show in Macclesfield next weekend, and I'm currently sat twiddling my thumbs wondering if/when the bassists from the supporting bands will approach me...
+1 to this. If I can't get hold of the bassist who's rig I'm supposed to be using before the event I tend to throw mine in the car and take it. It stays in the car until I've tracked down the bassist and double checked that it's definitely okay and that they are aware of the situation. I turned up to a few gigs early on in my bass career where the promoter had told the other bands that they could use my amp. First I knew of this was when the next band to sound check plugged in to it! If I'm aware in advance I don't tend to say no, but I do keep a close eye on my gear. Although this may change when I start gigging the Genz and Berg set up.
8. Strings direct - been using for years, always had spot on service and good prices. Bass Direct - placed an order last Thursday, It arrived Friday. Oh, and Mark was a pleasure to deal with as always. Direct in the name = good service. (Wanders away thinking about switch banks to one with direct in the name )
9. Hey guys, We're a fairly new band based in Sheffield comprised of older, experienced, musicians. We've been together about 3 months and the songs are shaping up nicely. Unfortunately the vocalist we were working with has had to relocate due to family/work commitments so we are now a group of directionless musicians. What we're looking for is a rock vocalist/front man with good lyric writing abilities. General influences are band such as Alterbridge, Shinedown, Velvet Revolver, Stone Sour.... well, you get the idea, riff based rock. Age is fairly unimportant but experience and confidence are a must. If you are looking for a band, or know someone who could be, get in touch and we can see where it goes. Cheers
10. I can't speak for all amps out there, but I own a shuttlemax 12.2, the one with two 600W at 4ohm power amps. The manual states that it's a 375W in to 1 8ohm cab, this is how the head runs in the practice room, with no load on the other power amp.The manual also says that it can be used without a cab and just headphones plugged in to the headphone socket for silent practice, I did this once when I first got the head, no ill effects but it felt wrong! So it would seem that some amps are fine while others are not. If in doubt, don't risk it!
11. +1 on going to buy an mxr and walking away with ab aggy. I did this about a month ago at Bass Gallery. Love the tone shaping it allows. I have it set so that it brighens the clean tone when I stamp on it, that way the phat lower octave jumps out of the speakers and kicks you in the chest!
12. When in London I would not hesitate to go to Bass Gallery. Great guys in a great shop that's absolutely packed with fantastic gear. Just leave the credit card at home or it could get very expensive. I find Denmark street is better for the browse and dream situations.
13. Just had the pleasure of a nice pint and a chat with Rich, thoroughly nice bloke. While I was there I bought his absolutely pristine condition Bergantino HD212. Cab was exactly as described and just what I've been looking for. Such a straightforward transaction. Don't hesitate about doing business with him. Cheers Dave
14. Thanks for the tip on the octamizer. Tried, loved and bought. Just loved the simplicity and versatility of it. Cheers.
15. I'm heading to bass gallery this afternoon to pick a nice little treat for myself as I've been working hard of late. I'm looking at an ebs octabass but wondered if you wonderful people wanted to chime in with other suggestions of possibly better pedals. Budget is approximately £200.
16. Sorry, didn't see the questions. Music genre is rock/metal. It's a new band with all new material and the songs we're writing are kinda bang in the middle. Musically we're a three piece so I have a lot of sonic space to play with/fill in times of git solo. Head is a Shuttlemax 12.2. The sound through the HD210s at bass direct was fantastic when I bought it but not sure gow it'd be now I've my sound set up, barring minor eq tweeks for cab/ room.
17. Noooooooooo, I have a list, it's taken me 3 months to whittle it down to those 4 options. Please don't stamp on what's left of my brain with more suggestions! Although, I am very intrigued by the new CN range. Damn it, now look what you've all done. Right, new idea. Anyone who wants to bring a 4ohm cab combination, with a brand new retail price of £700 - £1800, that is fairly easy to carry, to a rehearsal room to hook up to my Shuttlemax. Please get in touch. Lets see if we can create a wall of bass cabs the likes of which has never been witnessed before!
18. Can I, as the organiser, be excused from that one? We're having a nightmare trying to come up with a name for our band!
19. A mini bass bash to satisfy my own selfish needs, and to link in to a different thread, it could also be a Ford Focus owners club meet!
20. Right, Financially I am about ready to buy the cabs to make the noisy part of my rig complete. Through extensive research, and a couple of emails to Alex at barefaced, I have narrowed it down to the following possibilities: A, 2x Bergantino HD210 (with the option to add another 2 if I'm feeling rich/insane) B, 2x Vanderkley 210MT C, 2x Vanderkley 210MNT D, 1x Barefaced S12T (with the option to add either another S12 or a compact or two if I decide to break the world) So, what I'm looking for is people who own these combinations of cabs. I was going to ask for people to let me come round and try them out with my head and bass, but then I thought, hang on a minute would I be happy letting someone I don't know come round to my house to use my incredibly expensive bass cabs? The answer I settled on was probably not. So I came up with the rather ingenious idea of getting people who own all of these cabs in to a centrally located rehearsal room so I can try them all out at a good volume and everyone can have a good drool over the gear they didn't buy and potentially try out other cabs/configurations too. Who knows you might find your perfect bass rig is a 210MNT paired with 2 HD210s, all sat atop a Barefaced compact! If you fancy this as an idea, and you're not located in one of the far reaches of the country (I'm near Derby/Nottingham), then PM me with the gear you'll bring to the party and where in the country you are. Once I've got most/all of the stuff listed above lined up then I'll work out a sensible location and sort out a suitably convenient Saturday or Sunday for everyone to get together. Cheers for reading this far. Dave.
21. First picked up the bass in mid Feb 98, about a week after I had joined a band as the bass player (I'd been playing guitar for about a year by this point). First gig was early May of 98 having learned/assisted in the writing of a 45 minute set of pop punk originals.
22. My mate has just hired one from Burnt Tree in Derby. As they are a rental company rather than a band van company it was a damn site cheaper than most of the specialist companies. Hope this helps.
