Nobody has ever asked me which bass players I like, why do I do certain things (there's licks and things I recycle from others) but occasionally I will get asked "have you heard the bass player on x record? He's awesome!". Pretty much the same as my conversations with the drummer: "I really liked the drum sound on that record." End of statement.

I read the lot but left it completely confused. The only music biography I couldn't finish was Keith Moon's, what a horrible bar steward he was.

Jeez that's a weird book, it's mostly filth too, nothing about music.

The original "fever" was bass and vocal, I'm sure you could do something around that. It would be recognisable.

I had a long drive yesterday and ended up listening to recordings of my short-lived 80s band made on my old Washburn Status. I remember the EQ was not what it a used to and seemed a bit too simple, but fired up through a Trace Elliot it sounded fantastic: clear, deep, punchy.

Thanks everyone. I've already got the Behringer P2 for "silent" practice at the drummers house and I use my Ashdown Meters Headphones with that. I was thinking something wireless would be better, it's a bit clumsy with the cables. I don't wander off often but found going wireless on my bass really liberating and don't want to go back to being hardwired to something, and this is where the cost concerns are!

Well, some people never learn do they??!! Having been patient in putting together the parts list I'm now left to nurse my pride and temper my over excitement. The cost for the bits I can't do is prohibitive. I've got to kill the project and try to recover what I can from parts that can be returned and refunded, and the rest are at the mercy of the Marketplace/ eBay. Sad, but I can't sink £500+ into this.

It's a great idea!!! Just over twenty years ago I had the idea to have a rock band that played covers of songs from the Vietnam war films, all dressed up as American GI's of course. Then there was my acoustic duo where we wanted to do loads of 80s electronics but with acoustic guitars... Didn't get off the ground, sadly.

Yes I have. But the venue having a sound limiter has nothing to do with my pedals being either on or off when I plug them in as I don't crank my amp to gig volumes then ram a load of noise through them willy nilly, or power off my whole board mid gig then back on again for a "surprise" mix of effects that could cause volume spikes. I don't see how a venue having a sound limiter has anything to do with the issue of whether certain pedals are on or off by default when the board is powered up. My point is a typical effects pedal can only be either on or off, there is no other state. Some people will want them all off when plugged in, others all on so the manufacturer can't win in setting the default for their products. In the grand scheme of things I just don't see how it is causing anyone an issue other than having to turn on or off whichever pedal they don't want to be off or on before they play.
