1. I remember going to see Standing in the Shadows in Chicago on the day it opened. We went to the late afternoon performance before the big opening evening show. Cinema was about 2/3 full and half of those people were musicians on the way to evening gigs with guitars and even small amps stashed next to them
2. Oops - double post!
3.
I know where you're coming from. Just had my first real rehearsal since getting my new bass and guitarist said the same thing! Good feeling, eh?
Definitely They usually just ignore me, lol
4. after playing it at a full volume, pre-gig, rehearsal your guitarist leans over and says "I don't know what you were playing on that last song but you must do that every time from now on - it sounded great, so much funkier than the way you usually play it". You then point out you played it exactly the same way you always play it but just on a new bass that you haven't used before In this case my regular band are used to me turning up with all sorts of different basses, amps and cabs but it was the first time I'd ever taken a Sadowsky along. It's a 2014, NYC, chambered ash body with 'Amazon' rosewood board and was played through a MarkBass LMII and 121H cab. Eq on amp set totally flat with just a hint of bass & treble boost on the bass. Sounded good to me standing up next to the cab but obviously carried really well across the stage to other band members as well. There really is something about a good Sadowsky that just sits in a live band mix really well
5. I always remember the head of the Fender CS sales team telling me that Shell Pink was a sure fire best seller. One of the fastest moving colours of all CS basses but dealers are always frightens of ordering them
6.
The sensitivity knob does have a certain je ne sais quoi.
That's where the magic happens
7.
You'd need to be hale and hearty to keep up with his playing - his stamina is quite something.
I also wish him to remain free from defect, disease, or infirmity. . . .
8. I used the 121 combo with the 151 cab for a few gigs and it always sounded fine. Matched quite well really.
9. I think the LMIII is a great choice. I've been really getting back into the MB sound recently and have just picked up an LMII for rehearsing. I really quite like it with everything set completely flat

SOLD!

Wow, really pretty. I tried to order this exact spec from the Fender CS last year and they said it would be a crazy price and would have a minimum 2 year wait!
11. So the new Pro Series basses are officially released now. A few people asked about pricing - they start at around £800. Not bad for a German built instrument
12.
Yeah, but they're all fit.
I take it back, I've seen better in Watford http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/06/28/article-2350515-1A8C213A000005DC-935_634x679.jpg
13.
The compressor is modelled on the MarkBass Compressore, which is a brilliant compressor. I used to have one. If I have time I will upload a screenshot of the control options for ya...
I tried the compressor on the shop's one tonight and it sounded great. Simple to drop into any of the amp modes and very 'musical'. I didn't fiddle around with any of the variable parameters. Just ran it as it came and thought it didn't really need tweaking
14. A Ritter Cora is a rare and beautiful thing whilst Rita Ora looks like a high percentage of girls down Watford High Street on a Saturday night. No contest really. . .
15. Gotta love a Sei - I've liked just about every single one of Martin's basses I've ever played!
16. Andertons is a good shop with a strong local reputation. If they've assured them as being refurbed and with a warranty then they should be 'safe'
17. Depends on the shipping methods. Most larger stores that ship amps will use a next day delivery service. At our shop we use a company that picks up around 16:00 and delivers mid-morning the next day. First class post should be 24 hours but it's not uncommon to take up to 10 days if something gets lost en route. Making a cable will depend on th availability and demand of the maker. If not busy then it could be made the same day and posted registered signed for to arrive the next day.
18. Really quite rare to see one with Joey's signature as well. You sometimes see Vic Wooten signed ones (usually on the control panel cover) but not anything from one of the two luthier partners.
19.
Small compact and does the trick: http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS402BB.html Only thing is the bass leans back quite a bit so with a bass on doesn't save much room but does when it's empty.
I use one of these fairly regularly. Packs down small enough to fit in my gigbag. Not the most stable but I've never had a bass fall from one
20.
I am really pleased for you👍 Couldn't wait to get rid of mine and I know a lot of others felt the same way as well, it is good too see however that the diverse tastes and needs of players are well catered by all the different kit that is now available.
Funnily enough I've not heard anyone complain about the AE series. The AE112 and 210's have always been very popular. One of the easiest cabs to sell because they're in so much demand
21.
Fixed that for you!
Ian Gillan agrees with me : Gillan says Deep Purple are a better live act since they stopped trying to be the loudest band on the planet. The frontman recalls the band's brutal noise levels during the 1970s, in particular the 1972 London Rainbow Theatre show in 1972 which the Guinness Book Of Records confirmed made them the loudest band on earth. Volumes reached 117 decibels that night and there are tales of audience members losing consciousness as a result. Gillan says “We used to be pretty loud, but I think the focus has changed now. The impact of sheer volume was one thing that used to get written up about. The equipment now is so sophisticated, you can have volume without pain. "It’s actually enjoyable. You’re not running around with your ears ringing after the show, like you used to be. There’s a lot more focus on what’s actually going on on stage. You can get involved with that a lot more. I think it’s a vast improvement over what it used to be.”
22. Same with motorbikes. For many years I always 'needed' three: Big ass, shaft drive, super-reliable and comfortable tourer type for my 400 miles a week commuting. Monster engined custom bike for going out with my bike club mates and general fun riding. Very fast sports bike to remind myself why I always wanted to be a biker. Then there was the feeling I should really have a 'naked' quick bike, and my custom bike always needed just one more thing changing and, of course, every summer there was a different sports bike calling my name. I was pretty good and kept the one in, one out system going for years and, as my back weakened the sports bike has now gone but I keep looking at some of the new breed of very quick 'sports tourers' and thinking maybe. . .
23. Jimmy Coppolo produces basses that no-one else quite matches for perfect vintage tone and, a big point of difference against an actual vintage instrument, he makes them with 5 strings! This LM5 is his late 70's, Marcus type, bass. I've played it briefly and it sounded just great, one of he best LM's I've heard. Anyone after a really high quality bass that cops a perfect 70's tone but with added benefit of a 5th string and Jimmy's lovely, musical, active boost pre, should try this out
24. These are excellent gigging basses. Such a shame Carvin decided to pull out of UK dealers this year
25.
Fixed that for you!
Lol, I used to have a 'if it's too loud you're too old' sticker on my bass hard case - then I saw one that read 'if it's too loud. . . you're being an inconsiderate dick' and I started reconsidering my view
