Diabolik!

That's good to hear. I've been thinking about getting one for a while and the YT demos seem good. It'll be a toss up between the Diabolik and a Duality. Although my only other Darkglass experience has been a VMT and I was really disappointed with it.
3.
My Squier P Bass Special would fit the bill if you can find one second hand. Precision body, Jazz neck like a matchstick and PJ pups. Cheap as chips and sounds great with a set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders slapped in it.
I've gigged and recorded with one of these for 15 years, with the same SDs in. Plays and sounds the business. Better than a lot of Fenders I've tried.
4. A couple of months ago I got a Squire CV P from the classifieds here. I loved the bass but didn't get on with the chunky P neck so I got a Mighty Mite J neck (cost was a tad under £100). The bass plays like a dream for me now, it's become my main gigging instrument.
5. I bought a Hofner travel bass a few months ago. It was going stupidly cheap (and I'm a sucker for an impulse buy). I thought it'd be good for taking on public transport, cycling, living room rehearsals, tour bus, stuff like that where a full size instrument would be a pain to carry or play. The tone from the humbucker is a bit thin. It came with rounds on which I quickly changed to flats. That helped a bit with the sound but it's far from 'deep' tonally. It's a handy tool for occasional use. I shouldn't like it but I'm happy I have it, but I'd never gig with it.
6.
I do sometimes wonder can McCartney slap?
You nearly made me spit my coffee all over the place!! Ha ha. Seriously though, if I ever heard him slapping the bass I'd hunt him down and slap him myself.
7.
an opening chord that does it, and probably the first time such an intro was used, though no doubt someone will be along very soon to prove me wrong, again, A Hard Days Night,
This one does it for me too. I just found an interesting link that tells the story of that chord - http://www.beatlesbible.com/features/hard-days-night-chord/
8. I wonder, did Leo Fender get a reaction like this when he went to Musicman, or started G&L?
9. I've no idea who these guys or gals are, but I've just seen this ad on Gumtree and I thought I'd share it on here in case somebody is interested. They're in Paisley, Scotland. Feedback for Mace

I just bought a pedal from Ieuan. He's a top guy to deal with. Prompt postage and communication. Thanks Ieuan.
11.
That's the only thing stopping me picking up an OC2 - no tone shaping.
That's cos it's perfect off the bat . Let's be honest, a filter will generally be set and left. T16 is tré exciting though!! Si
12. It sounds good eh...... I like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cxV5O0_8HM&utm_source=Cog+Effects+Newsletter&utm_campaign=8285274ce5-T16_Release11_2_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_a762863ba2-8285274ce5-88119385&ct=t%28T16_Release11_2_2015%29&mc_cid=8285274ce5&mc_eid=030df6b76b
13. I use pedal risers. They are great for raising the back row up so you don't knock the front row knobs. And they will sort out your problem. http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/diago-pb10-pedal-board-pedal-riser-4172-p.asp
14. I'd say try a multi FX first. You'll get an idea of what kind of effects you like and what you don't. The effect models are usually named after the original effects, so you'll know what to buy when you find what you do like. Like a lot of us here, you'll find the journey with pedals is ever evolving and you could spend lots of money in the long run. But it is worth it when you find yourself with a board you're really happy with.
15. Zoom B3?
16. I still grin like a madman every time I use my GR2. It's just sooo funky. And it really gets noticed by other musicians at gigs.
17. I'm up for this, I'm in London. I may be very near Northampton in a week or two.
18. I'm with you on this one Discreet. I used compression on gigs for years, but after reading the thread about compression a few months ago (the one that turned a bit sour) I tried gigging without it. What a revelation. I'm now in full control of my dynamics. For live playing I want to be able to express myself fully on stage but I fully understand that a FOH engineer will probably want to compress me in the FOH mix. And for recording it's a must but I prefer to use parallel compression, again, to let the dynamics of my playing come through. To the OP - unless you're after that compressed sound I wouldn't say you're missing out. Give it a go, but don't think you have to use it just because others do. You have more control of your sound and dynamics in your fingers than you might think....
19.
Personally I get cover through Music Guard - that covers my instruments for theft and accidental damage but also provides competively priced PL cover. Two birds with one stone.
I got my equipment insurance from Music Guard, it came with PLI included. £14k of gear covered & £2 million PLI for £400, and I got somebody else named on the policy too. I did the deal on their website but I did make three phone calls to get some questions answered and I found their staff to be really helpful and friendly. They weren't working from scripts and I couldn't fault them. One of my questions to them was who is or isn't covered by my insurance and PLI. The answer was this - if a punter falls into our gear and hurts himself, it's his fault, his problem, he won't get a payout on my policy. If he knocks gear over and damages/breaks it, I'm covered for the repair/replacement. If he knocks gear onto another punter/musician and they are injured, they are covered but he still isn't. I do take a lot of care at gigs to make sure leads are taped down and stands have yellow & black warning tape on them, at least I'd doing my best to not be the cause of somebody tripping over my gear. Thankfully I haven't had to make a claim, so I can't comment on payout or responsibility issues.
20. I think you nabbed the Q-Tron, I'd just made my mind up to get that. Too late though
21. I picked up the GR2 that was on sale here recently. For me, it's the best filter I've ever had. So squelchy, very funky. I still love my Mini Q-Tron but I don't use it live because of the volume jump. And my MXR sounds a bit thin next to the GR2. I'd still love to get my hands on a big old Q-Tron and a Proton at some point though, but I'm more than happy with this GR2. Awesome.
22. I just bought a pedal from Lee. Great comms and quick delivery. It was well packed too. Thanks Lee.
23. I just bought a case from Andy. He's easy to deal with. The case arrived quickly, and was really well protected with loads of bubble wrap. Top job. Thanks Andy.
24. Duck Dunne and Al Jackson do it for me. And Steve Cropper. In my book he's a fully paid up member of this rhythm section. Pure gold.
25. I just bought a pedal from David. As I said before, he's easy to deal with, and when the pedal arrives the next day, it's all good. Thanks again David!
