1. I used a filter and a fuzz, filter off for the chorus. That seemed to work pretty well.
2. I think the photo looks fab. but in practise these cabs are going to sound appalling. We are bass players and we care about our sound. As a theoretical uni project maybe its worth pursuing, but put these ideas anywhere near the real world and there are issues.
3. Verb, the TK-421-X is a nasty Rat based distortion. High gain is what it's all about, without low end loss. And it doesn't do subtle. If you want some distortion that's less brutal have a think about the Grand Tarkin. That's sort of a Big Muff but way better.
4. This looks interesting! Is it a fuzz/octave or a fuzz/envelope filter maybe? And what are the z-in and mode functions?
5. She's gonna love that! Major brownie points for you too, and it's a win/win situation all round. Good job.
6.
but damn you for putting the idea in my head of a 2 chorus setup!!
7. I just A/B'd a chorus before and after my TK-421-X. With the chorus after, the wobble of the chorus was really dirty, to be expected. It sounded good though. With the chorus before the TK the dirty chorus wobble had cleaned up a bit and the note definition was much better. I actually prefered the chorus in front of the fuzz, but as always, I'm sure both ways have their uses. Doing it that way was definitely worth trying though. I did try two choruses, before AND after the TK at the same time. That was interesting, a lot of wobble but a huge sound.
8. Blimey, those prices are good. And I spotted right angled speakons too. Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.
9. Exactly which pedals are they? Some photos and details would help you shift these a lot quicker
10.
the chorus into the fuzz is awesome! cant get enough of it Tom also increased the gain available on the fuzz, so the normal max gain is around 3 o'clock and then i can push it a bit further for some super swelled out phat phuzz
Oh man, I've got to give chorus>fuzz a go! I'd never have thought of that
11.
somehow the pic didnt work in my post so i edited it in, that pedal is insane
I'd love to hear that beast cranked up. It looks great too.
12.
looks ace, parallel octaves huh? what you using?
I have a DOD Octoplus and a Pearl OC-07. They are both in one loop, and all my dirt pedals are in the other. Which ever octave I have on can now run in parallel with whatever dirt is selected. It sounds so much better than running octave in series, where it gets a bit messy sounding.
13. Here's what arrived at my door today, a lovely shiny new blender. Mmmm, parallel octaves. 14. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Are you getting the extra (third) filter on yours?
15.
Have you got it yet?
My thoughts too. I want to see the list/photos of all the new gear.
16. 1980. In the space of about a month I heard some James Brown, Japan and level 42. Bootsy Collins, Mick Karn and Mark King. They all blew me away. I didn't really know what a bass was but I loved the sound of it and wanted to do the same. I got my first bass shortly after. Little did I know that I'd end up making a living out of it. Awesome. And just for the record, I'm over the Level 42 slappy thing and I play my bass properly now
17. C'mon folks, let's help Marvin spend his money
18. I would suggest you turn up the gain until you reach the point where the sound is just beginning to distort. That is what's called 'the sweet spot'. Then back the gain off a touch so you're just back to hearing clean bass. Now if you use a pedal (or volume knob, or your fingers) to increase the signal going to the amp you'll get some break up. Tweak it to suit your needs. Personally I dont worry about a the volume rising a bit when I use distortions, as I'm probably only using that effect in a loud section anyhow.
19. I'm not known for silly equipment moments as I'm the one that's always got my gear in order and ready to go at a moments notice. Except last Christmas that is. I was doing a large function, around 900 people. The drummer counts us in for the big entrance and I hit the bass. And nothing. The band are all looking round at me wondering what's going on, and I'm looking down at my pedals - it's the tuner, and it's engaged. I'm a tw*t. I turn the tuner off but still no bass. Then the drummer is grinning at me as he's spotted that my lead is hanging off my strap but not plugged in to my bass. I'm a bigger tw*t. So, tuner on again, lead in, tuner off..... still no bass. Now I'm concerned, the beginnings of a mild panic. I'm looking all over my board wondering if anything is out of place but it's fine. Then I check my amp. Ah ha! It's turned off. I'm a fecking huge tw*t. And as it's a valve head I had to wait 30m seconds for it to fire up. The whole band wet themselves laughing and continued to rip me to pieces for the rest of the night and beyond. Fair play to them as wouldn't show mercy to a bandmate if it happened to them....
20.
This just in...... http://www.thedailym...t-2015021095240
Brilliant!!
21. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Damn The Torpedoes. 1979. What a band.
22.
COG Knightfall, every time. Ideally with a blend pedal, or Tom's blend option (found on the Knightfall 66 ..... http://www.cogeffects.co.uk/si-poulton.php ).
+1 to that.
23. I listen to stuff I play. It's good music, why wouldn't I?. And I learn as much by listening as I do by practising.
24. My Berg 1x12s wipe the floor with my old 4x10 and 1x15 rigs. And at 20kg a pop my back is happy too.
25. The Zoom B3 is the simplest multi FX I've ever used.
