Annie Clements deserves a mention for out-and-out hotness:
Very true....although she's a really good player aswell. She's playing with Sugarland now.
. He doesn't really play the same as portnoy anyway.
No.....Mangini is a far better player. I'm not a big Dream Theater fan at all-I think there is some good stuff and a lot of crap-but I'm interested to hear what Mangini will be doing with them.

Carol Kaye. Esperanza Spalding. Rhonda Smith.

Alternatively, you could use a pick to get more of a click,or you could pluck closer to the bridge and favour the rear pickup (I don't know what bass you use),which will give you a bit more midrange punch.

What I'd do is put the synth wah first,so that it gets the cleanest signal, then your distortions(try them both ways),delay, tuner,Sansamp(for DI purposes). Although I'd probably get rid of the TU2 if I was using a rack tuner, mainly because you're running through an extra pedal, needlessly.
Hullo, What's an accidental? fanks Chris
An accidental is a note that is not in key. Say you are in the Key of G....if you see an F natural, that would be an accidental, because in that key you would normally have an F#. Or,in the key of C,any sharp or flat note written would be an accidental.
MIM, and if they're anything like the guitar versions price wise, a bit cheaper than I expected.
Sounds Live are advertising them at £519
That pickup by the bridge - surely the tone from the D and G is going to be jarringly different from the E and A?
I don't know...it's not the first time Fender have used the double P pickup, and Leland Sklar's old Charvel/Fender hybrid was a double P aswell. I'm not big on the double P on a Jazz body, but I like the Precision with humbuckers. Ideally, they'd do a Jazz with a P pickup in the middle and a humbucker at the bridge. I'd be all over one of those.
Actually its being sold direct on eBay for $4,995. Ouch http://cgi.ebay.com/Bunny-Brunel-Signature...=item230d13f8af
As nice as it is,I'd be on the phone to Mo Clifton instead.

My former electric bass teacher doubled on upright,so when I started I had a couple of lessons to get mainly my left hand sorted. Its totally worth having a couple of lessons to get some technique. If you are treating it like a vertical fretless you'll likely develop problems-it's really a different instrument. Don't avoid playing with a bow either,it will make a huge difference to your playing. I'll +1 the Rufus Reid book,'The Evolving Bassist',It's a great book. I like the Simandl and the Ray Brown books aswell.

POLL! Who uses a hard case for gigs, and who uses a gig bag?
I once worked with a very snobby musician who told me he looked down on bands who use gigbags!?! Crazy!
So obviously players like Marcus Miller,Tom Kennedy,Victor Wooten,Billy Sheehan,Janek Gwizdala and Mark White (amongst many others) who carry their, often expensive instruments in gig bags are looked down on then. -
Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.
Post gig party
Why,when standing next to a couple of tidy young ladies, are you feeling up another bloke? -
A Precision Bass with a pick will get you in the area of that sound. It's not really an effects thing.

Just going away from the subject slightly..... Ken... are your old Music Minus One books still available?

Right now,I have my action pretty high. I've not measured it but it's comfortable for me. It doesn't make things more difficult and it gets a better sound. I remember hearing Nashville player Dave Pomeroy say once that he's a big believer in heavy strings and high action. Will Lee apparently used to have really high action too-although it's lower now.

Doddy replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Gig bag 98% of the time...ususally an iGig-Although it's been about 5 years since I used a hardcase. I've had my basses in and out of cars and trailers and vans and planes(on board and in the hold) in gig bags and have never had any problems at all. Hardcases are a pain in the arse to carry. Get a good quality gig bag (iGig or Mono or whoever) and you'll be fine. -
When measured with a micrometer by a machinist no difference could be found in Monster cable or other brand plug sizes. This myth was debunked years ago as a weak attempt to pass the buck. All jacks wear out eventually. Just the claim that a thousandth of an inch more depression on a spring could make the difference between it working forever or failing is ridiculous.
Not wanting to derail things but I thought th Monster Cable, slightly oversized plugs was well known? In fact Phil Jones amps used to (still?)void the warranty if you used a Monster cable, because of this.

Jeff Andrews is a great player-I love his playing with Vital Information,Michael Brecker and Mike Stern. Especially Stern's 'Upside Downside' and 'Time in Place'.

Are you using the keys to play synth bass parts? If so,I'd go Bass > A/B >Pedals >DI > split to Amp/PA Keys
He was great but he had his flaws.. One of the most striking things I have ever read came from one of the children of Joe Zawinul (he took his children on tour and they saw the show every night) : "Daddy, why is Jaco playing the same thing every night ?" (referring to the solo-spot of Jaco). I started to dislike his manierisms, a musician (however great he is) who's on routine is boring..
It's well known that Jaco wasn't an improviser-he once said to Marcus Miller "You think you're bad because you can improvise". Take a piece like 'Continuum'...it's double tracked and it's note perfect. Even his 'Havona' solo was composed (including the Stravinsky quote). But to me,that isn't what Jaco is about. If I want to listen to a great electric bass improviser,I'd listen to Berlin or Patitucci. My favourite Jaco stuff is his big band. He really swings and his tunes like 'Liberty City' and 'Three Views of a Secret' are great.
Just had a lightbulb moment... remembered that the EBS wah pedals (Wah One and Stanley Clarke) both have switchable LP modes. They're not sprung (at least, not that I know of), but they seem quite tweakable. Not tried them though. Pricey too.
Yep...the Wah One has a low pass button, and the Stanley Clarke has a knob for low pass/high pass/band pass/boosted band pass. As the Morley was mentioned,it's a good sounding pedal but for me,the sweep of the treadle was too short.I can't remember if it was sprung or not.
Well, seeing as the original Slow Gear pedals are extremely rare and about a bazillion squid, you could always get the Behringer clone. Or were you after something bass-specific?
Check out the Behringer copy.....it's good enough for Juan Alderete

I broke a DR Lo Rider A string in about a week. When I break strings it's usually the same way-the core snaps near the bridge and the windings unravel. It probably won't be a sharp edge on the bridge saddle-you might play them harder than you think.I know that I don't have a light touch and sometimes strings break..it happens.

I've only heard that song on the New Look advert, which I think is awful.
