1. I use the AKG D5 and it's really good. Alternatively look at the Thomann copy of a Beta 58-the T Bone MB85.I know a few top sound guys who use them as their main vocal mic-one guy in particular recently used one for Beverly Knight.
 2. I had a bad experience with Elixir strings. I put a set on my 5 string Jazz when I was doing panto in December, and the coating started to peel over the back pickup and around the 5th-7th frets in under a week.To make matters worse, some of it got under my nail causing my finger to get infected and i had to use a pick for the next week or so. I won't be using them again.
I think its lack of sale is down to Ashdown's previous small head offerings,
I think it's lack of sale is due to it not being released yet.
 4.
Polytune would be an option, however it cannot be used for drop-tuning such as C. I'll try it though when I get a chance
It doesn't recognise drop tunings yet in polyphonic mode, but the others don't either. It's my favourite of the lot as chromatic tuner though.
 5. I use the bridge pickup on full with maybe a quarter front pickup and the tone on full.
 6. You shouldn't be gripping the neck, you should be using it as a balance and pivot point. You should be able to lift your thumb from the back of the neck and still play.
 7.
I am thinking of learning how to slap, but play 5 string basses. How much more difficult is it? Ta Mike
It's no more difficult, unless you are used to twatting the E string like most slap players. I slap on a 5 all the time.
 8.
Does anyone know exactly what note the oc-2 starts to loose its tracking on?
It's around the G# on the E string. I'll agree with tbe comments on the EBS-it's a great pedal, which is why I use one for clean octave sounds. But the OC2 is more dirty and synth-y.
 9. The OC2 is a great pedal. It's not the cleanest or the best tracking pedal but it sounds awesome.
 10.
Because she's a woman. Not aimed at anyone in particular who's so far commented as we all like different players but every time her name gets mentioned all I get reminded of is how embarrassingly chauvinistic and jealous some men can get.
As far as I'm concerned,my not particularly liking her has nothing to do with her being a woman. If the thread had been 'how great is Esperanza?' I would have said that I think she's great.
 11.
It's also a lot of money, unless a groove bass pops up.
The Groove was all wood though.
 12.
Why the negative comments? She's obviously a great player.
I'd say she's a very good player.....she's got a long way to go to be great.
 13.
Herbie Hancock and Jeff Beck can't be wrong.
I think they can. Herbie's band (I think) sounds so much better when he uses Nathan East or Pino or James Genus.
 14. I think she's alright. Her solo album is good, but she doesn't blow me away. I think that there are a lot better players around.
 15.
Of course your not mate, all those pictures you had in the lounge at my last lesson were the girlfriends then?
erm....uhhhh.....errr.....
 16.
scott thunes or tom fowler?
Arthur Barrow did some cool pick stuff too. Although...I'd plump for Scott Thunes.
 17.
Dougie used to be a Stingray player, does anyone know why he switched?
Not that I'm a fan or anything, but he's also been seen using a Fender Mark Hoppus.
 18.
If I had the resources I would record both my stingray and sterling, I'm pretty sure people would be able to guess which is which, even though they are essentially the same bass, same woods, preamp equipped, MM humbucker equipped. But that's rather simplifing the matter.
I think the word 'guess' is very important here.
Any making comments on pickup type and everything else being an excuse is the same as who ever says that basses sound the same regardless of what's in it, is an excuse because they don't know/don't care/can't tell. The difference for between me and them is that I do care, as I'm well aware of the differences between a variety of basses. Although I agree the mix has to be relatively clear and transparent.
So,if I say I can't tell you what a bass is purely from listening it means I don't care? I've already said I can't tell what's what in a recorded situation. I'm very aware of the variations in basses, otherwise I wouldn't own 23,but I will always argue that the player is more recognisable than the instrument.
I never knew dougie from mcfly played a sterling, but in a blind test no one would tell since the mix is terrible. On the other hand my first hearing of Midget- the Milgram experiment, I could instantly tell the bass was at least from MM background, and I think so would most other MM fans.
Just because you've seen Dougie from Mcfly use a Sterling doesn't mean that it's the instrument that he uses for recording. This is going back to the thing where people see someone use a certain bass and rave about how great and recognisable it sounds, when on record they've used something completely different (Flea or Geddy, anyone?)
 19.
Red guitars are louder than blue ones.
No.....Black is louder.Red is faster.
 20. The Polytune has no trouble handling a 5 or 6 string. The Korg DT10 is good too,but I replaced mine with the TC.
 21. My 2 pence worth..... I've used a Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5 through a Bergantino HS410 for a few years now and it sounds awesome.
 22.
I also set my drum kit up standard right handed but I don't play crossed like most drummers, it opens up the whole kit all the time and not just when I'm playing the ride cymbal.
Billy Cobham/Simon Phillips style. I've always wondered why more left handed drummers don't do this. It makes a lot of sense and makes things way easier if you are sharing gear.
Still no evidence of an upside down right handed player then? There must be one out there surely.
I tried out a left handed JD Supernatural yesterday. It took a minute to get my head around playing upside down, but I don't think it would take long to get used to.
 23.
What ever the answers are, they are meaningless since it isn't a "traditional" ray being heard.
No......it means that all the bravado that people have when they say they can hear a specific bass a mile off goes out of the window. I've always said that the player is more important than the bass, and this thread is really supporting my thoughts.
 24. Just listened to the new clips.........I stand by my first post. I can't tell which is which-The first has a bit more midrange, but otherwise they are similar.
 25. I am chuckling a little at the discussion about what the pickup might be,and how it needs to heard soloed etc.....I suppose it saves face a little more than just saying that you can't actually tell which bass is which.
