If you're turning the wrong way the lights wobble faster and slow down as you get closer to the correct pitch until they stop wobbling completely. As I mentioned in another thread about tuners - its the only tuner I use. I keep meaning to get another one as they're cheap and I always worry that I'm going to lose mine. Also I find the intonation is difficult to get right until I use a VERY light touch with my right hand. I guess pressing down hard is enough to stretch the string.

I've got a blue Ashbory on the way to keep my black one company. I've not gigged with an Ashbory yet before, but I've been playing it all week & might use it at one or both of this weekend's gigs for a few songs. Who else is an Ashbory user? Do you use talc, slyde rite or something else? Any Ashbory tips etc?

Not a pedal, but the Planet Waves SOS bass tuner is the most accurate, most convenient, easiest and fastest to use for me - I never use anything else. Dead cheap as well.

Mine was a black Jazz copy branded "yamato" new from Soho Soundhouse in 1979 for £75 when I was 15. It was rather crappy and wasn't much improved by defretting, so I sold it to a mate. My daughter on the other hand had a 1971 fender musicmaster when she was 5.

How is it possible to lose the tuning key knobs? Perhaps the gigbag was a bit tight at that end

The Dean was lovely to play, The original strings that came on it weren't up to much and I reallt liked the tone from using TI jazz flatwound strings. I used JF344 on mine as I already had a spare set, but JF354 would probably fit better because ofthe 35" scale. Also A cheap & cheerful Behringer v-tone acoustic adi21 preamp pedal warmed up the sound really well.

I'd push for more info about the "promoting markbass gear" thing. Markbass or Proel would know if any were released into circulation without a serial no for promotional use - whilst not being a possible explanation it does sound likely to be complete BS. I would expect that promotional ones remain the property of the manufacturer or distributor and need to be returned.

Cheers, Martin.[/quote] the musicmaster has a strat pickup as standard, so you need one the same size if you want it to slot right it, so a strat replacement is best. The cool rails I used in mine is a guitar pickup, but works perfectly in a musicmaster with the stock pots. I think its 4 conductor to give more options to our six stringed friends, but you'll probably want to wire it so that the coils are in series.

How about something completely different like an NS-Design electric upright? There's a secondhand CR5M listed on the "for sale" section within your budget. I will never part with mine as its so much fun to play and the 42" (I think) B string sounds tight AND huge.

Don't jack it in, just start or join a new band as a "side-project" with the guitarist if necessary. There are no laws against being in more than one band.
