1. Its not your problem that the courier are playing silly buggers - he's the one that has to claim from the courier. I'd raise a paypal dispute without delay and tell him you've done that. Only communicate through the dispute interface so paypal have an audit trail of messages back & forth about the issue. You can cancel the dispute if the issue is resolved. It should work: You get money back from Paypal -> paypal gets money back from seller -> Seller gets money back from courier But if the process stalls at the 3rd stage it is the seller that has to thrash it out with parcel2go, so really you shoudn't worry about getting involved any further than providing evidence to him about the state of the amp. He'd have to take the hit anyway if they say it did not comply with their packaging standards.
2. Wouldn't the custom shop make the custom orders?
3.
It's got some weight to it yeah, but not bad really, after the Overwater which was a bit of a beast this is quite nice in comparison.
That's good to hear - mine could have been used as an anchor for the QE2.
4. Is that a super-heavy ash body like my P bass from the same era?
5.
And 'pickguard'. It's 'scratchplate'.
No it isn't - Jean-Luc Scratchplate would sound daft
6. Here's a little something I enjoyed putting together with GB. Its great fun to use - like playing with lego.
7. I have one of the original korean reissue blueburst longhorns - quite a faithful reissue of an original 50s one, but with separate tuners and a truss rod. It fits in a telecaster gigbag or hardcase which is handy. The wide spacing of the lipstick pickups gives a unique tone. The neck is a bit meatier than my CIJ mustang in depth, but still quite narrow. Its comfy to play though and light as a feather. The bridge saddle on mine is a single wedge of rosewood, but with rotosound shortscale flats (the only flats I've found that fit) it intonates well enough for me. I don't use mine much and have only done a few gigs with it, so even though its a few years old it is still pretty much in mint condition.
8. I think the literal translation is "I think I'm down with the kids, but in reality I'm a bit of an arse"
9.
90 staff at my equivalent site in the US were 'transitioned' on Friday. How insulting!
That makes it sound like they were turned into cybermen or something
10.
It's a load of crap though isn't it? "We're going to have to let you go" and all that rubbish is worse, as you know it means sacked, but no-one has the stones to say it and are hiding behind niceties.
No sh*t Sherlock!
11. I wasn't going to do the LIMS this year due to having to cut down on outgoings, however I just found out that tickets can be bought using £4 of tesco clubcard vouchers. I have plenty of those saved up so thats two tickets ordered. When the kids get back from school there'll probably be a massive disagreement about who gets the other ticket. Who else is likely to be going?
12. Maybe a better word than 'sacked' should be used as often it carries a lot of negative feeling. Taking the cue from how its done in corporations (like the one that 'rightsized' my job at xmas - the right size being zero), in future perhaps we should refer to situations like this as the rhythm section needing to be 'in-time-drummered'.
13. When I got my (first) MacBook a few months ago I didn't really look at garageband as I though it was like those stupid looping things you get for PCs from from PC world, but at the weekend I watched the lynda.com video training & can't believe how much stuff its got built-in. The guitar amp modelling is decent, there's a midi hammond organ built-in and it even does auto-tune type stuff. I've been messing around putting together a track using loops to get the hang of it and I love the way everything can be done so quickly with the minimum of messing around. It looks like I might as well unplug the cubase studio 4 dongle as everything I need to do can probably be done in GB.
14. Whenever I see those bravewood basses I get severe gas until I notice that the relic treatment extends underneath the pickguard. That would annoy me if I had one as it makes it stand out as a fake, so looks a bit wally.
15. I found all the bits from a westone guitar in my loft. I thought I'd given it away years ago. Now I have a not quite fully assembled westone guitar in my bedroom. I keep finding 80/90s rack synth modules & fx whenever I have a rummage. The best forgotten find was a deep bass 9 midi analog monosynth module. Theres a novation drumstation up there somewhere as well. I'm thinking of breaking into my uncles loft to see if he has a crappy copy of a fender bass with a lovingly applied a fake fender decal. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd have done, but its always uncles isn't it?
16. How many elderly uncles would get a fake fender logo to put on a cheapo copy? If it was a genuine vintage fender found in a loft it would be likely to be recognised as possibly genuine, but when it has obviously been faked like this one has is it not reasonable to assume that the there is a high likelyhood of the story being BS & the seller is trying to pull a fast one. That's how it seems to a cynical old sod like me.
17. I played lots of old mustangs before going for the cheaper option & getting my CIJ one. Once I put TI JF324s on & had the frets levelled at the gallery it felt, played and sounded much nicer than any of the beaten up old tatty 70s ones I tried and wanted to like, but didn't. I was intending it to be a backup to my '72 musicmaster, but the mustang has become my main bass now.
18. The old 'found in dead uncle's loft' yarn - why don't people admit that they stuck the fake logo on? Is it so they can play dumb & imply that it *could* be a real vintage fender?
19. That stack would be enough to put anyone off gigging. I wonder if it hurt to "put metal angles on the front bottom"? sounds painful
20. Malcolm Healey in Sutton is a double bass specialist. If I had some spare money I'd take mine in for him to work his magic on it.
21. This is my favourite Funny Bass Video Don't panic Mr Manring!
22. Thanks for the tips chaps. I'm a bit undecided whether to go ahead, but if I do, I'll probably post some before/during/after pics. The scotchbrite pads method seems appealing so maybe I'll experiment with that & some 2000 grit wet & dry on my old 80s westone guitar first to get a feel for both methods.
23. Pointless thread. If everyone liked the same thing the word would be a very different place.
Have you seen the Bass Day 98 DVD?
Nope
Have you listened to all of his albums?
Nope
Or have you just watched the Youtube clips where he's 'shredding'?
Not past the first few seconds
What were you doing at that age? Playing with toys, I imagine.
I won a lego competition at my local toy shop - but I don't expect anyone to worship me for it
He has the most awesome slap technique on the planet, so why not show it off once in a while?
Fine, but not everyone actualy enjoys listening to "thwakkatta thwakkatta thwakkatta thwakkatta" no matter how much skill goes into making such a sound.
What do you want him to do at a trade show or clinic...play some rock and roll basslines?
I couldn't give a toss 'cause I won't be there I didn't post on the other thread, but I felt compelled to reply to this one. I must admit I don't really give Mr Wooten a second thought most of the time as what I've heard of his playing says nothing to me and I have no aspiration to play any of the kind of music he plays. I'm not at all into slap - I can understand some people are, but then again it takes all sorts. I really don't care about Vic's playing. I'd rather watch/listen to Willie Dixon or Duck Dunn doing their thing.
24.
Will be fine if you clean the tip off straight away after doing it. Try not to breathe the fumes too much!
or use an already knackered one. I have a late 70s Fender Bass case in my loft that has a split alongside the handle. I might try this to try to repair it.
25. I usually play my NS upright or an ashbory for acoustic gigs. Also my mustang with TI324 flats does the job well through a small amp.
