1.
PM me when you're ready and I might be ready to sell
I'd never get permission to buy another bass unless I sell a few first.
2. Great choice of Rig Bob - I play through an LMII & 1212L as well. Have you experimented with the VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter) & VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) yet? If not you're in for a treat. I hardly ever need to touch the eq - I can usually dial in the perfect sound with just these two.
3.
Thanks for the advice i was a bit weary about buying second-hand as a mate of mine got a really dodgy guitar once but the people seem quite friendly here
Secondhand is the way to go to get vfm & if you buy from an established BassChatter you certainly won't get a dog of a bass as BassChatters are the finest human beings you'll find anywhere.
4.
I'll end up doing some modding but is the woodwork, fretwork and finish good?
The ashton acoustic guitars I tried had no redeeming features. Their ukes were terrible as well I recall.
5. Nice one - I think you got a great deal on it at the price it went for. If I'd had any money and a forgiving missus I'd have been bidding against you.
6.
I've always preferred the look of lollipop tuners to elephant ears. It's surprising that only Hipshot seem to offer them.
I've been after a set for this bass for a while for a cool as I put on a set of schaller BMLs which looked a bit too compact. The original 1966 mustangs had small plate lollipops. If Hipshot did a set of those to fit my CIJ mustang including a D-tuner I'd buy them in a shot as that's my main gigging bass at the moment.
Nice bass - looks like you have a quarter sawn neck there.
Cheers! Mmm could be quarter sawn - I've never thought about it, but I always thought it had an unusual grain pattern compared to my fenders, there's a smattering of birds eye on the back which looks good. Thanks again John. Did I mention I'm really chuffed with these tuners on this bass?
7. Bought some tuners from John. did the deal on Sunday, the tuners were on my bass Tuesday. Great bloke to deal with.
8. My daughter would like that.
9. I don't know about the basses, but I tried a few Ashton acoustic guitars for my son a while ago and they were terrible cheap cr@p.

11. Thanks to BB2000, I received a set of Hipshot late 60s-style precision bass lollipop/butterbean/oval tuners in the the post this morning I just had to drop what I was doing get them fitted them to my Fretless Precision. This is a bitzer I built a few years ago from MIJ Brandoni Neck & Body, Kent Armstrong Pickup and various bits of Fender hardware. gotta love them lollys
12. Is that the one that was on ebay last week? If so - good to see you got that stones sticker off it.
13.
Haha, I knew that was going to turn up sooner or later! I have, of course, but they get used already during the set, so getting back to the 'right' level every time isn't going to be particularly reliable. I need something idiot-proof that I don't have to fiddle with in the dark on stage.
If the active bass has a trimpot on the circuitboard you can preset it to put out the same maximum level as the other bass.
14. A couple of simple tips that helped when I set mine up: the bridge should line up with the notches on your F Holes & ensure the bridge is perpendicular to the top with the strings in tune.
15. US =3 Japan = 2 Korea = 5 Indonesia = 2 czech republic = 1 China = 2 My Shed (one string upright thing) =1 My Living Room (Parts Japan/US) = 1
16. I think a thunderbird can accurately be described as a singlecut. Although the comfort, sound and balance may not be to everyones taste, I do believe anyone who says a thunderbird is ugly clearly has no taste.
17.
Endless knobbing! Am I the only one who finds that such a blatent innuendo?
Their website contains a constant stream of knob puns. Strange to have marketing aimed at 14 year olds when they're selling accessories that would be bought by people with much more disposal income than the average 14 year. Then again perhaps their target market is guitarists rather bassists.
18. I don't think I'm likely to be dropping my LMII off any tall buildings anytime soon, so I think I'll be OK.
19. Yawn! Any thread started with a post that ends with the word "discuss" usually seems to be not looking for any answers, but looking to start a flamewar. What a pointless and sad thing to do. Some people might like playing with fingers Some people might like playing with a pick some people might like playing by slapping the strings with a sardine Some people might like using a combination of the above and other techniques So what? Get over it Move along nothing to see here.
20. Mistakes happen. I think I had an ordered mung years ago when they were pincotts, but they sorted it out with the minimum of hassle. I don't know what their gold parts are like 'cause I've never ordered any - I don't like my basses to look like Hyacinth Bucket's bathroom fittings. Did you contact them to give them a chance to sort it out? If not its a bit odd to post here first.
21. How would a real one get worn under the control plate?
22. I bet with my cloth-eared, cack-handed rhythm guitarist hat on, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the sound that comes out of this amp and some of my best patches on guitar rig.
23. Thinking back to my formative years I got into bass as my best mate already had a geetar, however I recall even before I bought a bass I always listened to the bass on records. On a record with good bass, how it sounds and locks in with the drums always appealed to me more than any amount of guitar widdling. I still enjoy the occasional strum on my thinline tele though.
