I don't find the name offensive but it is a little unnecessary. It's like they are trying to be really rock n roll because they swear. I'd just be a bit embarassed to play one. Not that I feel really strongly about it but just my two cents
Ashdown probably think that their target market would be impressed by that kind of thing

ebay advice please: second chance offer
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Well I got a reply back - it turns out the explanation is that they have a number of these new & boxed to sell & the winning bidder didn't back out. I could wait a few days & hope the one currently listed fetches a lower price, but I'm happy with the £220 I bid (inc postage) so I've hit the button & paid so it will be on its way to me very soon. It'll be nice if it does have the lovely rosewood smell that my 80's washburn guitar has, but as long as it plays well and is loud enough for acoustic rehearsals I'll be chuffed with it. OK what acoustic strings are good? I'm guessing my favourite TI 344s flats won't be very loud - are the TI acoustic rounds worth a go? -
The new ashdown mini tube amp looks good, but after calling it the little bastard, where is there left to go if they want to do a more extreme version? Will they eventually have a range of amps called the 'kick in the b*lls', 'motherf**ker' & the 'utter c**t'? My danelectro fits into the same gigbag I use for my tele thinline guitar, but I expect that's unusual. for my other 30" & 32" basses I use the same gigbags I use with my 34" basses. The extra bit at the end doesn't make any difference to anything apart from there being room to pack a doughnut and a sausage roll if you're likely to get peckish at the rehearsal or gig.

I put in a bid for 202.50 in the vinegar strokes of this auction and was beaten by a fiver: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...em=360215899745 75 minutes after it ended and I had resigned myself to a lifetime of not owning a solid stika topped rosewood ABG, I receive a second chance offer to buy it at the amount of my bid. I love the way rosewood acoustics smell and it should be louder than most ABGs due to the solid sitka top and big fat body, so I'm happy paying the amount of my maximum bid, but I'm in uncharted territory as I've never had any dealings with 2nd chance offers so I can't tell whether anything about this looks dodgy. It looks like the seller has a shop & there is a possibility that he has more than one of these basses & of course his feedback looks good. what do you think - does it look OK?

Danelectro Longhorn shortscale
I can tell you that the point knobs are a right pain, they are in the way of each other, and they are very easy to turn accidentally while playing. Maybe we can do a swap if I get it?
You're not really selling the idea -
I might go for the current reissue in january, we'll see.
I haven't had the pleasure of checking out the current ones, but they look good - wouldn't mind one myself to keep my blueburst one company. The only obvious differences I can see are that the truss rod adjusts at the headstock end & has a truss rod cover, so you don't have to take the neck off to tweak it (although I can't remember when I last had to do it), plus it has more authentic pointy knobs (I wonder if these are available as a retrofit for mine ) -
Anyone have some recent back issues of Kerrang?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to bassoctopus's topic in General Discussion
Sorry can't help, but I remember buying the very first issue with Angus Young on the front. No idea what happened to it. Bet it would be worth a quid or two now. -
It looks remarkably like this correctly attributed & priced columbus: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Guitar-Columbus...=item4cec640c44

£382.42 Oh dear - someone's wasted their cash on a dog look at the hole pattern on the pickguard - its a squier affinity or copy.

Fender Telecaster Bass
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to EssentialTension's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Is there a Mexican Telebass model at all?
There's the Dirnt, but that would have a rosewood board. If any SC 50's reissues are MIM, they'd have the truss rod access at the other end - like the sting and other MIJ/CIJ SC Precisions. -
That'll be after the Mexican neck was fitted, so at least it's Californian sh1t.
I can't think of a Mexican Telebass model with truss rod access at the headstock with a black surround - like a Squier? -

To me it looks like a stock squier vintage modified telebass that's been smeared with sh1t -
Bass guitar with a double bass sound???
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to saxobass's topic in Bass Guitars
My Danelectro longhorn does it best for me - My Ashborys can be made to sound like an upright as well, but a lot of people don't like 'em. -
Its very nice, but personally if I had the moolah and wanted a bass as old as I am, I'd not want it to look less knackered than me.

That's exactly the same as mine. (except I haven't drilled any extra holes & fitted a pointless extra pickguard to mine) I think I got a good bargain when I got it about six or seven years ago secondhand, but in totally mint condition for £165. They were still available new at around £300 at that time and the going rate for secondhand ones was around £200. Its Korean made and I believe that version was only made sometime between 1998 & 2001. It is much closer to the original 50s version than the unbound version that followed. At the moment my longhorn gives me my favourite sound for low volume gigs with acoustic guitars and I can get a nice thumpy upright tone out of it. -
I haven't tried one with my CR5M, mainly because I don't need to as I already look like fozzie bear.

Recording your bands everyday rehearsal
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
I get fantastic results with a zoom H4, but had the H2 been available I'd have probably gone for one of those at the time. -
I would take it to the Gallery for a fret level and get a set of thomastic JF324 flats on it as well. I've never played a PJ I've preferred over a straight precision.

Thinking of downgrading my cabinet....
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to bigevilman's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can vouch that a Markbass LMII (or these days a III) with a schroeder 1212L is a stupidly light combination which is almost embarassingly light, but sounds massive. -
Could be the relief needs setting as the weather has been cold & damp

I was looking for some double ball flats for my hohner B2A. Strings direct managed to get some in from picato for me and they are perfect. They've been on the bass for a few years and still sound great (although I don't tend to use the bass much). They're certainly better than any rotosounds I've ever used in that the windings are consistent string-to-string as is the tone.
Looks like an SX neck?
Spot on - or possibly one made on the same production line, maybe with a different branding. Out of interest isomela, how much did you pay for it and what info on its origin was given? Other things that may help with recognising what parts make up the bass would be a view of the body with the pickguard off, a close-up of the electronic bits on the back of the pickguard, close up of the front & back of the headstock. Pic of the neckplate if there's anything stamped on it, and a close up of where the serial number & any other identifying marks are if not clear in other pics. Also close ups of the damaged areas may help identify what the body is made of.
