1.
Played the 4 string and it was VERY nice. Comfortable, fast neck, solid construction and great hardware. Cant comment on the 5 but I assume its up to the same standard. Tension is not going to be a problem thats for sure and I reckon the pups will have enough grunt to kick out a tight low B.
Cheers Mog. You're not helping me get rid of my GAS
 2. The original pearloid pickguard on my 1971 musicmaster bass has noticably shrunk - the screws are all at angles, but its still fits. As it has been attached to the body for nearly 40 years it has not noticeably warped and probably would have shrunk more had it been unattached. A few years ago I bought a NOS Fender pearloid P Bass pickguard which was a bit warped looking in the packaging, but when screwed down was still a perfect fit. I think if you're keeping anything like that unattached to a bass, it might be worth screwing it to a square of mdf/hardboard/ply - whatever you have around to prevent it from warping & shrinking
 3. I'm strangely drawn to the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V (5 String) in the natural oil finish. Anyone tried one or own one? If so what's it like - including the feel of the oil finish? I'm assuming it would fit my Ritter thunderbird gigbag - any reason why it might not?
 4. How about getting a cheap Pbass & chucking on a brandoni fretless precision neck - or do something like I did & build a bass around a brandoni neck & body?
 5.
Ah, you prefer a fifth then? Perhaps a bit OT, but if you can't put a pint or whatever atop your rig without it doing St. Vitus dance it indicates insufficient bracing of the cab. Aside from the issues of where to put your drink any energy expended in vibrating cabinet walls is energy not making it's way to the audience as sound. The two corners most often cut by cab manufacturers are bracing and damping, as you can't see if they're properly in the cab without opening it up. Tilt backs are a good idea in a combo, as combos should be tilted back so you can hear the mids. The reason for a dearth of them is the same reason why most acoustically valid concepts see limited usage, and that would be how it looks.
I recall I couldn't leave anything like a tuner or my watch on top of my old Ashdown rig without it falling off after a while, but having a cab braced up to its eyeballs won't stop people from stumbling into things.
 6. As everyone knows, the tone is in the fingers. I'm sure I can notice a subtle difference when I'm not wearing mittens.
 7.
Because you can't place a pint atop it.
No one puts a pint on top of my rig no matter how level it is
 8. Maybe they don't sell as people don't think they look as cool
 9.
good bass, but £259!? I didn't pay that new for mine. It was £200, okay it had a knob missing but then again is it worth paying £60 for a knob?
Is yours the same model or is it the cheapo version with Jazz Bass pickups? If you got a shop-soiled Millennium AC BXP 5 in quilted black violet with 5 individual monorail bridges, double coil Cirrus pickups & active EQ for £200, then I'd say well done, that was a bargain.
 10.
That the only Reason for the sale?
Not quite - the missus has got it into her head that having over two dozen basses & guitars around the house is excessive, so I'm half-heartedly trying to sell a few - that one doesn't get used as much as it should be to justify keeping it.
 11.
Wow thats gorgeous! Very tempted! Special BassChat price? haha But i'd "ideally" have a 24 fret neck through, (and 6 strings is a bonus i'm still after a 5!) Though if that doesn't shift i may be after that! Beggars can't be choosers! Though seriously that looks like its worth £500 at least!
Ta - it does look pretty classy for an inexpensive bass. I don't tend to use it a lot at it looks a bit posh for the rough & ready roots/americana/rock n roll band I'm in.
 12. This one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT has the same pickups as the cirrus and growls like a good 'un.
 13. When I was a baby I was dropped on my head.
 14.
I would bite your arm off for that Daisy Rock, been looking for one of those for a while. If the price was a bit closer to what I remember you paid for it... Jon.
Listed under duress from the missus I'm afraid, so priced to keep the riff-raff out Also I have two of them and the one for sale is the other one.
 15. I don't suppose it counts if its a separate pup for each string, plus two sets of piezos like my NS-design CR5m?
 16. I've listed some stuff on ebay - all ending on Tuesday 17th Nov http://shop.ebay.co.uk/jean-luc-pickguard/m.html

Boss HM2 Heavy Metal Pedal
Amdek CMK-100 Compressor Pedal
Daisy Rock Stardust Elite Bass
Peavey Millennium AC BXP 5 string Bass
Fender Ashbory Bass
Fender Squier mini strat guitar
Epiphone Thunderbird bass White inc hardcase & D-tuner
Pioneer CDJ Coffin Case for DJ CD Decks & Mixer
17. Now watching & I don't even like musicmans
 18.
Declare it or she's asking for trouble! Isn't there a trick about 'used items' = no duty? I'm not sure but IIRC if you have a receipt showing it's a 'used instrument' they can't sting you?
Nope - if its used & from the US it is still new to the UK and no VAT or duty would have been paid on it previously.
 19. Yes - to be legal she'd have to declare it as she would be importing it.
 20. Thanks for that I'm going to have a play with the Cee Lo Green one, but I'll risk getting into trouble with the missus as the kids are bound to sing along using the original lyrics rather than the radio version.
 21. I've made a Fretless Precision and Tele guitar using kits from brandoniguitars.co.uk/ in Wembley. The tele used all the standard hardware that comes with the kit and it came out very nicely for £200 (plus the cost of some Danish Oil & woodstain). I got a sunburst body & finished fretless neck with ebony fingerboard for the precision and used a lot of upgraded hardware.
 22. I used to get split skin on my fingers I always had elastaplasts on 'em a few years ago. At that time also I always had white blotches on my fingernails. I think both may have been a result of not having enough calcium at that time, so I would prescribe strawberry shortcake muller corners.
 23.
those old fender pickguards were made of celluloid, and thus sound much better than modern plastic pickguards. However, a wooden pickguard sounds best.
I bet they sound even better coated with snake-oil though
