1. You can get an unfinished or sunburst alder body comparable to a japanese Fender (ie probably made on the same production line) from Brandoni in Wembley - if they still have them. A '78 will not relic in a cool way like 60s one, it would be more normal for it to have just picked up dents & scratchs rather than bare patches & mojo.
2. I've just noticed in the specs that the Epiphone T-Bird Pro V has a dual action truss rod. All of my basses have 'normal' truss rods & I recall that on the Squier musicmaster I used to own, It had quite a chunky neck compared to my mustang & TI Jazz flats didn't had enough tension to pull any relief into the neck, so I had to use heavier LaBella strings instead. I'm guessing that if that bass had a dual action truss rod, low tension strings would have been OK? Any other differences with a dual action truss rod? Is there anything different I would need to keep in mind when doing a setup on a bass with one? I've sold a couple of basses this week, so it looks like a T-Bird Pro-V with natural oil finish might be coming my way soon if I can work out a way of making the missus think that its her idea that I order one.
3. I'm sure halfords sell suitable tape on a roll in various colours & widths for adding pin & go-faster stripes
4. Give Silent Fly a shout - If anyone can I bet he can.
5. I think someone has recommended these in the past as an ideal case for a Markbass LMII
6. mmmm - reminds me George Porter Jr's bass
7. I like it. (But I like daisy rocks basses.)
8.
A wind up bass guitar ?? As per wind up torch or radio??
That would be good for an active 6 string guitar to get its power from something connected to the tremolo arm. However it would probably only work for guitarists who like to play the type of solos where they have to pull funny faces.
9. paint it yellow & sell it on ebay as a rare MarkBass Head
10. Definitely a hohner jack. The hardware looks identical to the bits on my 1986 hohner b2a.
11. Reverse tuners are the old-style ones you see on 50s & 50s reissue basses. To tune get into they go backwards compared to normal tuners. You won't want one of those. Without a pic of the back of the headstock, your best bet is to eyeball it and pick the one that most resembles your current tuner. I'd guess that you'd need either a GT5, BT7 or BT10.
12. Just ordered a set of Slap Happy Weedwackers for my cheapo Stentor DB via eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140471271501 Not sure of what to expect, but they seem to get good reviews and as long as I don't get ripped off with customs charges they've cost me £17.14 GBP inc delivery. I'll report back when I get them & have had a play on 'em.
13. Wasn't there one hanging up in the Bass Centre (during the Brune Street years) for a while?
14. I wish I hadn't sold mine for £80
15. Longer scale length and more pointless (IMHO)
16.
isnt it through neck?
Yes it is, I realise the strap button won't be able to go in the same place, but I expect there'll be an appropriate place to put it. I quite like the position of the button I added to my acoustic bass. Not expecting it to be much like my white one - I normally prefer a bolt on neck as most of my basses have needed a shim to set up to my taste. One of the neck-thrus I have has the saddles right down on the baseplate, but I'd probably be willing to take a punt on this if I sell a couple of my basses.
17.
apologies to the OP - hows your gas? lol
Worse now - ta! The neck dive shouldn't a problem for me - Its easy enough to move the strap button like I did on my alpine white epibird which made it balance perfectly. I like the thunderbird shape and I like a non-glossy finish on a neck, so it's going to be hard to resist. Thomann.de have a B-stock one for under £300. Please someone buy it before I do!
18.
http://www.zampower.com/
mmm interesting. Expensive though; I might have a go at building something similar.
19. Is it the actual HDD inside the housing that's gone? If so it might be worth chucking in a new one, possibly of larger capacity. I had some externals die over the years and it was always maxtor drives inside that had failed which I replaced with better drives which are still in daily use.
20. I can't see a lot of detail on the pics as I'm looking via my phone. It looks like a thru-neck, so if the truss rod is set correctly & the bridge saddles are as low as they'll go, The option of getting more vertical travel in the saddles is not possible like it would be on a bolt-on by shimming the neck. Has it been looked at by a qualified luthier or just someone in a shop who just knows how to do a very basic setup?
21. I'd love one, but I'm skint & my back hurts just looking at it.
22. Maybe he posted it when listings were free last weekend, isn't fussed whether it sells or not so has priced it at what its worth to him to keep it?
23.
Played the 4 string and it was VERY nice. Comfortable, fast neck, solid construction and great hardware. Cant comment on the 5 but I assume its up to the same standard. Tension is not going to be a problem thats for sure and I reckon the pups will have enough grunt to kick out a tight low B.
Cheers Mog. You're not helping me get rid of my GAS
