1. I think the £15k out of stock cables are a ploy to make the +£100 ones look cheap. They don't expect to actually sell any.
2. Also there's Maclolm Healey in Sutton: http://www.healeyviolins.co.uk/ He makes double Basses onsite, so knows what he's doing.
3. I bet they're call him 'spinning John' in rock n roll heaven today
4.
Why oh why do Squier not bring out a VM Shortscale of some description?!!!! Or even just a higher quality shorty than the little Bronco... I'd be on it like an aggressive moss! Eude
+ 1 Something like the vista series musicmasters, but with a thin finish would be good, but a squier mustang bass in Daphne blue at a similar price to the jags in this thread would be even better
5. My Coloured circle thing was Highs all around Enthusiasm 97% Perception 99% Emotional 99% Social 86% Curiosity 99%
6. Anyone who shares a gig with the residents is OK in my book.
7. I'd first try loosening the truss rod to see whether that fixs it. If it can't be moved or makes no difference I'd then take it the nearest good bass luthier - in my case that would be Martin or John at the Gallery but Jon Shuker would be nearer for you.
8. I use beyer DT-150. They are very comfy for a long session unlike a lot of cheapo 'phones I have used.
9.
if I was you I'd consider buying a Behringer BDDI box for £30 or so, because this'll give you a ballpark of what the Sansamp sounds like.
I have a BDI21, and also the 'acoustic' version the ADI21. I tend to use the brown ADI21 much more as it is very subtle and is particularly good for sweetening the sound of my tanglewood acoustic bass & NS CR5M electric upright before going into my LMII. This is the second ADI21 I have owned. I had to chuck the first one in with the Dean Pace bass I sold as it made it sound so much better.
10. & Everything seems to have gone up overnight by about 2.5%
11.
...and turn round to see Stu Zender with his amazing signature Warwick playing with a load of monkey puppets...
He's back with Jamiroquai?
12. All gear is neutral in the gender department. Except of course certain warwicks.
13.
Ibanez: Eastern factories have lower operating costs and this is reflected in the pricing. Make guitars in their factories for other brands and would therefore be able to buy branded parts (Bartolini, Gotoh etc) at much reduced bulk pricing.
Rather than this, isn't it the case that Ibanez is a brand rather than a manufacturer so owns no factories & contracts manufacturing to the same far East factories used by other companies, ie Cort, Samick or whoever else gets the contract for any particular model?
14. You have a bass worm living in your bass. They get in through the jack socket or truss rod access hole. They can be killed by playing some level 42 at gig volume for about ten minutes.
15.
Would you recommend that over Standing in the Shadows of Motown?
No, both are essential
16. Nice! Looks like Pahoehe strings on that one - I don't think the slides would have been easy with the stock silicone strings even with a load of talc on them.
17. Proper music! I assume you have Mr Friedlands excellent book on some of the players: R&B Bass Masters: The Way They Play by Ed Friedland
18. Just 500 were made in alpine white. I sold mine recently to get a natural pro-V t-bird instead.
19. When I got a badass II for my jazz (with J-retro), I tried it on a precision as well to see whether it was worth ordering another, but I much preferred the BBOT on that as the badass seemed to suck out all the oomph from the attack of the notes. So for me: Active Jazz -> BBOT good, Badass better Passive Precision -> BBOF good, Badass not so good I think the badass II may have been successful as it is a really good looking bit of kit and is cool as it has the word 'badass' on it.
20. Reminds me of some bass players who are unable to play an ashbory in tune after trying one for 20mins so dismiss it as a gimmick or toy
21. This hasn't just only been hit by the ugly stick; it IS the ugly stick
22. I like it. ...It makes me feel somewhat smug & superior
23. Apparently its a cruiser by Grafter. Whatever that is
24. I think this chap has heard me playing fretless live. Sorry for that.
25. A 5 string single coil one might be interesting
