  1. I once had a custom built bass, lovely neck, great sound. It lacked...........................don't know. It was rattly and just a bit rattly I took it to my local luthier, 'Have a look at this Andy' Andy fret dressed it. It still fkn rattled. Andy suggested changing the strings (the strings on it were new) So I put a set of my trusted RS66 on it Rattle? What rattle? Strings, yeah, they're quite important really
  2. great thread, congrats on 50 years
  3. I have two pedal train boards. Great build quality and sturdy
  4. Following on from does anybody play air bass, here's my story About 15 years ago, I used to do solo gigs. Playing guitar and singing, using the lick library backing tracks. Mainly classic rock stuff. One night in The Dublin man o War (just outside Dover in a place called River) I was doing my stuff when I see two blokes shuffling behind me. It was a friend of mine called Neil. He was with an older chap. Neil was giving it large on the Air bass and his mate was sitting down behind me, playing air drums. Topper Headon!! (he lives up the road)

  5. it was supposed to be like a streamer of the era.
  6. I worked in chrome plating for many many years. 1, you can drill your hole etc 2, send the bridge plate to the chroming company. Here they will strip existing plating back to the bare metal 3, They will probably need to re-polish the metal (we would have), so that the visible surfaces are free from any marks, pitting etc 4, Then they will re-chrome. They may put a light coating of copper first (sometimes we did, sometimes we didn't) then nickel then the chrome top coat. Much of the work involved is in the polishing of the stripped metal. Sometimes we would increase the price because you just know a particular job is going to be a nightmare (some jobs are, some customers are) We still have some chrome/ nickel/ zinc plating done where I work (we shut our plating shop 18 years ago. It was a health and safety nightmare and becoming harder every day) We use a company called Butterworths, based in Ramsgate. They could probably re-do your bridge. We would have charged a minimum price, which was £25 plus vat. (if, however it was someone I knew/ liked it would have been free)
  7. what is this word..........................SOLD nope, never heard of it 31 in my collection atm (includes guitars and acoustics)
  8. 58/11 might be the size/ thickness
  9. it's just a neck shim
  10. Foxton is one of my biggest influences
  11. donkey GAS
  12. I decided to have a 5 string made by a local luthier. It was 16-17 years ago. Fretless to boot Built by Andy Crockett of Crockett guitars I only have these couple of pictures Fitted with EMG p/ups Alder body, maple top, ebony board. I sold it to fund a '59 Les Paul junior
  13. I used my EVO II at the weekend. A fab sounding bit of kit, as good as anything I've ever used. oh and it weighs bugger all
  14. South east kent. Total Jam have their own bass player . I played with them at the start (cue bass line, ) and for a bit a few years ago. I must admit to really liking the Paul Weller stuff, especially The Style Council number we do. (and I get to play all the guitar solos, which is a change for me these days)
  15. That's great. We also do a Weller tribute called, Stanley Road in which I play guitar
  16. yeah Hi Steve. What's your jam tribute called. (I have played with Total Jam a few times)
  17. I can't comment on the Genz but I ran a PF500 for about 6 years. loved it and still have it in my studio I have been using the RM500 evoII since christmas and I love it. A little comp and a little drive. I've been wanting to switch to Ashdown for ages as I think they're a great company. I'm even thinking about an Ashdown cab to replace my mark bass cabs
  18. I agree here with Loz. The RM stuff is very good
  19. I had one in 1990. I think it was an '89. maple board. Quite a chunky neck IIRC. I took it in PX for something. It was a great bass but I already had 2 P basses so moved it on
  20. PMd
  21. yep RM500 all the way for me. A little compressor and a touch of drive. A really great amp
  22. I must admit, I've not thought thought about a failing jack socket. I've been gigging over 30 years now and it's not happened yet. Amps have blown, strings have broken, leads have broken and the pickup thing but not a jack socket. Still, might happen now I've said it hasn't!!
  23. agreed.
  24. all of which can be fixed/bodged at the gig. Apart from the dead pickup I've never had to change basses due to another failure. But it is best to have a spare. I went to a gig the other night with 5 guitars. Two basses for the Policed set, 2 six stringers and an acoustic for the Paul Weller thing I do too. Utter madness
