it's been to my local and highly respected luthier. He's seen it before. It's a shame because I love the bass

So the truss rod doesn't work on my Steve Harris bass. It needs to be tightened just to flatten the neck a little but it keeps winding with nothing happening. Luckily it's still under warranty and the dealer I purchased it from will collect it and send it to Fender. This is the first time in 35 years of playing bass that I've ever had to do a warranty claim on a bass guitar. Amps etc, they've been back from time to time but never a guitar. You can see the cross head and the bass of the fingerboard, it screws further in with nothing happening. Anyone else had this?

I've not heard the stock p/ups. I know they've worked on hi-gain clones, which apparently, sound good

It's got to get close hasn't it? Plenty of basswood P basses sound decent enough

It's a bolt on neck (6 screws) It's not routed so I'm going to put a P bass p/up in the P bass position. A normal BBOT bridge and a mirror guard, the same shape as the template. It's got chequered binding.

I have a couple of Bravewoods and they are really very very good. Limelights also look good and are getting some very good comments on this site. They are a lot cheaper and look to be great value

yep, try it and if it breaks change it. Stings has the coils wired in parallel too

I have the same problem with one of mine. It also has the stacked pickup (same as Stings bass). Seymour Duncan said I could push the pole pieces in a little on the A & D strings to even up the sound. I haven't done it yet. I raised the action on the E string a little , which helped. I don't really use the G that often and I just live with it. I might just change the pickup

approx 70 gigs a year, now I'm full time on bass again. Main band I take 2 x P bass. One is about 1975 (my absolute fave of all time) and the spare is my Steve Harris West Ham bass. My police tribute again I always carry a spare. But it could be the Fender MIJ Fretless, natural, maple boarded P, or the red version again with maple board and fretless, or the Ibanez Musician, again Fretless, or the Bravewood '57 Sting replica, The Steinberger XL2 from 1983 or my White Spector Euro4 LX. In the blues band I play in, Hofner Jubilee Violin bass. It just goes thud and works brilliantly. I have an Aria SBR-150 that usually stays home

well I saw them and they were awesome. Great show with great songs. Seal was supporting too. He opened with Crazy and then Killers. Now that's some support

[/quote] yes I spent the day at bass gear with JT and we did a lot of testing using a tone hammer and ampeg pf-500. At the time I wasn't really playing a lot of bass guitar but now I am, as I've replaced our dearly departed bass player who passed away last month. I think I may need to order white tolex cabs, but with a red front and an oxblood grill cloth, to match my green bass strings!!
