1. ha ha, yes that's the one. I bought it from live wire. It was £399. Think I bought it in 1984, about july. It was a proper explorer shape, two kent armstrong pickups, active electronics. I eventually traded it against an aria SB-R150 from Peter Cooks. It was huge!!
2. Anyone here got a Manson. I've had 2 in my time, both explorers. One was black with white spots on the pointy bits and the other was originally black with an abelone tiger inlayed into the upper horn. When I got it it was stripped so I re-finished it in candy apple blue. Are they out there?
3. all sold at sound affects now. unless he secures some more!!
4.
I know Lee from years back, when he worked in Rockbottom in Croydon and played in a band called Moondigger (who actually sounded a lot like It Bites). He was stupidly talented even back then, 20-odd years back, and, as for his little bit of slapping with Grace Jones, this is a man who I've seen play Mr. Pink at double speed, left handed and upside down - it's something to behold. I'm glad he's gone on and done well - he deserves it. Local boy made good and all that.
Yep, that's when I met him. He sold my brother a bright pink Jackson and had a go on a 62 P bass re-issue I'd bought in soho. He was an incredible player then. We then bumped into each at a battle of the bands thing in Folkestone. It was so badly organised that me and my band just went home!!
5.
Do you still have the original pickguard? Used to have one of these; I regret moving it on Truckstop
Yes, it's on a shelf in the spare room. Took it off straight away .
6. Ok, so I've decided to sell my 'Sting Bass' £450 including horrible fender gig bag. Delivered I am in a Police tribute band but nearly always play my 70s re-issue fretless and seeing as I've got a custom build '57 on order, time to move it on (I've also just ordered one of the 'union jack hofners') I bought the bass just over 5 years ago when I started gigging with my Police band. I've taken the scratchplate off and there was a wiring rout underneath it, so I made a small block and mounted the thumbrest on it. I think it looks ok (from a distance!!) It's been gigged (probably done about 40 gigs) and so is far from mint, the bridge is going rusty as is the control plate, there are a few dings and dents but overall it's ok. I always try and look after my stuff. Sound wise, it's just incredible. I read somewhere that it purrs and I think that's a great description. It's a smooth sound with a little grind to it. I've used it in depping in a classic rock band too. It really is lovely. It's got a big chunky C shaped neck and the body is lightweight ash. I don't know what year it was made, info on the net suggests anywhere between 1999 and 2002. I bought it new 5 years ago. here are some pics, PM me for more info
7. My wife has got a mustang bass (as well as her P Bass) and I put a set of cut down 45-105 long scale strings on it, but it still feels sloppy. I presume this is because of the shorter scale (I can't play my Les Paul with 9-42 because it feels sloppy, but s strat is fine) Do I need to go heavier than 45-105? advice welcome, but I may start another thread
8. Cricket is up and down so far. Played 4 , won 2 convincigly and been hammered once (all out 35, lost by 10 wkts) then recently lost by 20 runs . How's yours? I'm sure you'll get back what you paid for it. Bring on the union jack!!
9. Hi there Old Horse Murphy, how you getting on with my old 500/1? It's very strange not seeing it on display in my lounge
10.
Nice one - will it be shared? Must be unusual for 2 bass players to be married I would've thought. I think teachers are most often married to teachers. Enjoy the bass, you'll need matching plastic hat and jacket!
No it'll go on the wall, we're not really into short scale basses, they feel too sloppy. I had a hofner CT500/1 until very recently. I sold it to finance my Steinberger XL2. Sold it to another basschatter. I've already got a replica of the Shea Stadium jacket, actually, the whole suit, which I bought when we got married and I'm sure there will be plenty of plastic hats in the bin!! Looking forward to getting it, always loved the violin shape (probably because I grew up playing fiddle from the age of 6)
11. if you google the union jack thing, Hofner have made a few custom shop ones with the flag. anyway my wife told me to order the Union Jack bass last night as it might be collectable, so I ordered it this morning It's fantastic being a bass player that's married to another bass player
12. I was using a PF500 until it went wrong and now I've gone back to my hartke ha3500. I'm shocked how good the hartke still is. (it's heavy etc) but a great sound. Lucky to have it as a spare. Lookng forward to getting the ampeg back. Hopefully it won't go wrong again
13. I heard an interview with AL on radio 2 a while back. He said all the lawyers kept on at him to sue etc etc and he really lost his way with it. Rick loved Alan's mum (they used to all be mates) and Al lost his mum, and I think that's when they started talking again. (a bit like Weller and Foxton). I commend quo for all that they have done, (I loved margharita time and all that pop stuff, it was just pop music) and I wish them all well for the future. Quo are an enigma for me. Everyone (well the idiots in the pub) takes the piss out of them for their lack of ability etc, but I have NEVER seen a pub band cover a quo song well/properly. No one seems to understand the importance of Rick's rythmn guitar or open tunings. Look forward to the tour and new album (last quo album I bought was in about 1988. Ain't complaining!)
14. That SG is great, it appears thge painted player chaps are quite talented
15. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
16. PM me and we'll sort it over the weekend. I should be able to ship it monday, all being well with finding a box here at work
17. bumping up as this cab is still available. All working and in great condition.
18. Here's a couple of shots of my bitsa telecaster that I put together about 6 years ago. As you may know, I'm in a Police Tribute band, so I decided to get my Tele, 'Andy Summers', by the chaps at the painted player, www.thepaintedplayer.co.uk They added the brass bridge (including the crack), mounted the pickup direct to the wood, phase reversal switch and on board pre amp. anyway enjoy,
19. I bought on line, but it was shipped from Barnet. I've just spoken to Barnet and explained to them and he said he would phone the on line part and try and get them to swap for a new one, after all, he said, we've got 11 in stock. Still, I'm not holding out much hope. It's not like I want my money back because I don't like it, far from it. I think it's a great sounding amp for my purposes. I'll keep you posted on what happens
20. a quick and crap update, Tried it in the studio, running two mark bass cabs into 4 ohms, same problem after about 5 minutes. Digital village won't swap it because it's outside of their 30 day plan. could take 2-4 weeks to fix. That is crap customer support/service. what I have learned is that I won't be using digital village again!!
21.
Niiice bassss! I would love one of these myself, especially white. One tip; if you play gigs , try to leave this at home and buy a battered homer or something,) nice bass bump
LEAVE IT AT HOME!!!!! you must be joking. I play my gear out, everytime. That's what it's for o:)
