Didn't think I'd do this, as I've sold this before and was lucky to get it back, but tastes change, and id like to go back to Spectors! this beauty is just sitting unused. This is Rita! A 2003 USA made Musicman Sterling and is a really gorgeous example. It's a one piece body in Translucent Cherryburst with a matched headstock (which was an optional extra, so probably a customer order,I suspect the body wood May be a custom upgrade,But can't be certain). There have been some mods to this bass,as a previous owner fitted an Alnico vintage Nordstrand triple coil pickup, which i believe is a custom order pickup. It has a smoother and deeper tone more akin to a vintage Stingray, but also has the Parallel/single coil/Series switching options for more tonal variety. Those who know Sterlings will be aware that this has a very slim neck with a maple board,and is surprisingly light considering it is a one piece Ash body (a lot of these are 2 piece) I have this lady at a fairly healthy 9lbs on my scales. Speaking of which it's got the most unique ash grain I've ever seen, in a bass, so I had a clear pickguard made to show off it's very special look (I have never seen a Sterling like this). I have recently had his professionally set up,and somewhere in this basses long history, the nut was replaced to make the string spacing tighter. I had a new bone nut made and installed and is like new at a cost of £130 it's also fitted with brand new DR High Beams and comes with the OHSC. It is in immaculate condition, it has one tiny ding and a small scratch on the headstock, and i tiny bit of the finish on the neck, where the nut was replaced. That's it, no other marks SOLD I will accept trades for a Spector Euro 5LX or CR5FM.

Ooof! Absolutely top tier compressor pedal. I've got one of these! I used a cali76CB for years,I replaced the cali with the Optifet recently and have no regrets at all. Lovely warm tonal magic,that just make a your bass sound better. Try this with a P bass and flats and you'll be in Tonal nirvana. Tons of control,The sidechain EQ can be set like the cali so the Bass frequencies get compressed less. The Internal switches change the character from clean and bright, to a warm syrupy sheen. -
For me it would definately be a custom Spector. The 4 string models would be a Euro made and the usual maple core/neck trough. With an Ebony board and Abalone crowns (neck profile as per the Doug Wimbish model). The body wing sandwich like the Euro but with swamp Ash,walnut and a AAAAA grade Quilted maple top. Hardware would be standard but in Black, pickups would be Aguilar Musicman in the bridge (with series/paralell/ rear single coil switch option) with the back coil roughly in a similar position as a 70s jazz, and a mid placed jazz pickup. Pre amp would be a 2 band East uni pre with passive tone and active/passive switch (The idea being able to get stingray/70s jazz Esq sound) Colours would be Translucent Burgundy Red Translucent Aqua Blue Translucent British Racing Green Translucent White All with matching Headstock too 😁 They'd be too expensive 😂 I'd also like a 5 string model the same but only available with a cocobolo top and two Aguilar dual coils (like a fodera) I now need to go and practice my Davie504 licks. I did wonder if a quilted top would work in Translucent white and I found this, it does and is very cool.

Yeah I don't see why not! You're right in its not a fuzz sound, but an oscillator producing what sounds o me like a Triangle wave, which has then been modulated to create the Dissonance (perhaps with a sample rate reducer or a ring mod, the C4 does the Former) I've got a C4 but I'm clueless at creating sounds, I've filled mine with other people's 😁 Very cool sound though, and I love PJ Harvey! I put it on and my wife said "what's that horrible noise" she doesn't see the beauty in Dissonance 😂

Yes you are indeed correct! As the OP asked wether a synth pedal alone could get close to that sound, I'm assuming he's aiming at using a bass to do so, and not a keyboard plug in which would be the most cost effective/best performance option. There are also lots of expensive Esoteric pedals,for making crazy sounds 😁 For getting a close approximation of that sound a C4 with expression would get you in the ballpark as it is a Eurorack synth in a pedal, the Future Impact would work too. If not Bassybert, how's your grade 3 piano?

Not a helpful suggestion as they are rare as Hens Teeth. But my CoPilot Orbit would get very close to that sound/especially if I booked up an expression pedal. It's a Gated fuzz with a Blendable Ring Modulator, so there's an idea to start. I think it's a synth on the track, but a good spitty Gated fuzz (Zvex Mastatron)with an expression controlled filter/ wah might work as a live approximation. A Bit crusher with expression controlled filter (Malleko Scrutator/Meris Ottobit) woukd sound cool. I'm sure our Quatschmacher could get that sound on a source Audio C4. These cool synthy sounds are rarely cheap to reproduce 😁

Wow yes identical to my Prometheus Deluxe but with a vol and blend (although the BP mode on the Prometheus has a clean blend 50/50 like the old Qtron mix mode, accessible as an internal switch) obligatory funky paint job too 😂

I watched this and don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it and he's fantastic player and entertainer. But he's telling people he can cop these synth sounds with the MXR when he was in fact using a 3 leaf Proton????? He even says you need the MXR for the ow ow sound. Someone in the comments mentions the MXR doesn't do that and he admitted to using a Proton 🤷♂️ He has the original track mixed much louder than his bass sound, and if you listen, the tones arnt spot on (which they won't be,as it's not a synth) all the pedals in the video (with the exception of the MXR imo) are great for synth tones.

Absolutely spot on, you've some great pedals for basic synth! Octave into Brassmaster and into proton. The brassmaster is a very sustaining octave up sound, which will work really well, for long synthy swells. A gated fuzz will provide a staccato ripping sound that's perfect for moog like tones. I particularly like the reverse filter setting too for synth. I do find the muff variant fuzzes to be very smooth and sustaining, which will work, but won't sound as synthy. Using a Boss LS2 to run he filter in parallel works reallt well too. Then you're in the rabbit hole 😂
