It's a good weight and balance, and I'm sure it's under 9lb. I'm right in the middle of moving house and not sure where my scales have gone, so bear with me - I'll come back with an accurate weight but it might be after the weekend.

Yes, I would say so. I'm only happy playing P basses and I've been very happy with the Yamahas. Look up some videos on YouTube as that will give a better idea. The pickups are standard sized, so it allows experimentation with different pickups brands, if that's of any interest.

I love the pickups and there is a clarity to their sound. Selling due to moving home and reducing number of basses I own. Any speckling or marks in the photos are reflections, as the gloss finish is quite reflective under bright lights and I have a textured ceiling. Please ask me for clarification if you have any concerns or questions. When I bought this bass, there was one slightly wobbly tuning machine. I applied a small amount of superglue which has addressed this issue to my satisfaction. However, I did mention this to the seller who then sent me a replacement machine, which is unopened and included in this sale. The tort pickguard was custom made by Jack's Instrument Services. The original cream one is unused (still with the protective film), and is also included in this sale. Collection from south-west London until the end of February, or north London from March onwards. I can post for £20 within the UK. Sorry, no postage outside of UK. No gig bag included.

I have some strings here which originally came installed on my 3/4 bass. The 'D' string is 65" and the 'G' string is 62".

Not sure that is true bypass - if it were, it would work even if the Zoom was turned off. You can true bypass any pedal with a true bypass looper e.g. http://www.brightonion.co.uk/mini-looper/

Sounds sensible to me. There isn't really a "wrong" way - if it sounds good, then it's good. The Zoom are not true bypass - I think it's still doing an analogue-digital-analogue conversion even on an empty patch (or the tuner). Opinions differ regarding if it makes an audible difference.

One of the points of amp/cab emulation is being able to replace/remove the thing you are emulating (i.e. the physical amp/cab). As such, one argument is to remove anything downstream of the Zoom which would modify its tone. For a traditional bass rig, that would mean plugging the Zoom into the "return" of the amp's fx loop, i.e. bypassing the amp's preamp. Taking that thought further, I've found that a powered PA speaker is more neutral than most bass rigs and provides no further colouration.

I think the 600W is the power consumption of the amp itself. The power the amp delivers to the speakers is something different (as mentioned, 500W into 4 ohms or 300W into 8). Regarding wiring the cabs in series: will 300W into two cabs (receiving 150W each) sound any louder/better than 500W into one? You said yourself you're running it at lowish volume. Perhaps using just one cab and turning the master up will be easier/sufficient.

For suggestions of five-string, active basses which come in both fretted and off-the-shelf-fretless: G&L L2500? They don't make the fretless one as a (lower-priced) Tribute, so it'd have to be a USA - not sure of your budget, but I've seen them come up used from time to time around £700-£900. Lots of tonal options and I found the controls easier to manage than (IMHO) the slightly-fiddly Sire.

Channels 1 and 2 are mono, so using either of those should just work. You might have to turn up the gain a bit.

Once you do find the level, are you happy? Or ultimately are you not happy with your current fretless bass? What was the pre-amp you tried, and did you not like it because it changed the tone as well as the volume? Would a "clean boost" pedal be any good?

The Peavey Bandit and Studio Pro are guitar amps so would be no good for bass as they won't cope with the lower notes. However, the Peavey TNT is a bass amp and that's what I'd go for at that budget. I used one in a rehearsal studio recently and it sounded good and was loud enough. Will this also affect the action though? The strings popping out could be caused by something else e.g. the way the strings are wound.

I like the look of this. I use a MS-60B live and have a B1on at home. For me, the MS-60B is fine for gigging but it would be nice to be able to switch patches either way (the MS-60B you can only move forward to the next patch), and be slightly less fiddly to change individual effect parameters. However, I do want a small unit, so didn't want to move to the B3n. From looking at the photos of B1 Four, I hope the buttons marked 1 to 5 will be a direct way to edit each of the five effects of the current patch.
