I tried a very expensive Dingwall in the Bass Gallery several years ago. The fanned frets took about 10 seconds to get used to. However I couldn't get any sounds out of it that I would have found useful. Thin and a too "polite" for me.
-
Personally I thought it was far too prominent in the mix and therefore noticeably bland - especially next to all the interesting synth sounds.

I really don't get what is so great about the bass tone on this. After several people commented I went back and had a second listen through my HiFi and I still don't get it. If my bass sounded as weedy and bland as that I'd probably be selling all my gear.

If you no longer need to input or output multiple channels via your interface then it really doesn't matter what connection protocol you use. However for maximum versatility I would always go for a "smart" connection like Thunderbolt or FireWire over a "dumb" one like USB. USB3 has overcome most of the problems that the previous versions encountered simply because the bandwidth has been increased to a point where unless you need to pump lots of timing critical data through it, it no longer matters. However if you do use USB it is still a good idea to use the port that shares as few other devices as possible on the same bus. Remember that on a lot of computers it is not always obvious what else is on the same bus (built-in WiFi and bluetooth, keyboard, trackpad, webcam etc.) as each external USB port.

Exactly. Unfortunately the only interesting thing about the music in the OP is that it is being generated in real time by just two musicians. Without the video evidence (and even the video itself is rather dull once you've got the gimmick), there would be nothing special about this "tune".

All of Francis Rossi's Telecasters have the hole drilled in them. According to an interview I read in IM back in the 70s, it was done originally to run the lead through rather than tucking through the strap, but it wasn't comfortable to use like that. However having the hole drilled in them did make the guitars easier to identify and recover if they got stolen, so AFAIK he's done it to all his guitars since then.

Excellent stuff! Do you need a support for any of those dates? [/cheeky]
-
That's strange. AFAIK everyone else on here who got in touch with them was sorted out with replacement stands for their sticky ones. Who did you contact?

But it's better and easier to get replacements from Hercules.

Why amplification? Because an acoustic bass unamplified simply can't compete volume-wise with anything more than a single gently strummed acoustic guitar. Why use something other than an acoustic bass? IME you need to spend a lot of money to get something that sounds even half as good as a cheap P-Bass copy with flats. On top of that there are all sorts of problems with handling noise and susceptibility to feedback.

For home use almost anything will do that you like the look, feel and sound of. Having said that because of the extra build requirements of an acoustic bass you need to spend a lot more money to get an instrument on a par with even an average 6-string acoustic guitar. For live use (even at an acoustic pub gig) you will need amplification, which in my view pretty much negates the point of having an acoustic bass in the first place. Unless image is paramount in this situation, you will be far better served in terms of sound and playability by almost any solid bass (preferably fretless) fitted with flats.

So two channel rather than stereo.

Very cool. What's the scale length? Interesting that it uses the Birdsong trick of having longer run of the low B(?) string behind the bridge to change the compliance of the string. Does it make a noticeable difference to the feel?

Collection only which may keep the price low and a bargain for anyone prepared/qble to go in person.

IMO there is zero reason to upgrade to Mojave unless you have another piece of mission-critical software that absolutely requires it.
-
You would hope so if it was a one-off custom build.

What do you want it for?

Some people don't spend all their time buying and selling on eBay. Also IME people don't seem to bother quite so much with feedback for private sales these days as they did in the past. I only joined eBay because I'd seen something I wanted to buy and it wasn't available elsewhere. After that I didn't buy anything else for almost a year. I didn't start selling for another 3 or 4 years after that, and I don't think I've bought or sold anything on eBay for at least a year now. If I wanted to pull a scam I'd sign up and build myself a decent history (and feedback score) buying small cheap items from commercial sellers first.

I'm quite surprised this hasn't melted the BC server!
BigRedX replied to Vinny's topic in Bass Guitars
It's a jazz bass copy being played by a badly dressed bloke with a beard. It doesn't got much less interesting than that. -
Have they got lots of negative or neutral feedback, or just not bought or sold many items? How long have they been an eBay member? Everyone has to start somewhere.

In almost 40 years of gigging (around 1000 gigs) I have had catastrophic equipment failures on just 3 occasions. I've probably had another 10 instances where equipment has played up at the gig but behaved perfectly fine once back at home and at the next rehearsal or gig. IME the vast majority of equipment failures I see at gigs for is for old gear that has been inadequately maintained/looked after.

A "Rick" for someone who really wants a Fender Jazz...
