I'm only up the road from East London - J7/J8 off the M11 and you're welcome to pop up for a play on mine at some time if you like......
-
It did. It was oiled/waxed as per most USA Sterlings rather than a satin finish like the SB14 has. I found the USA one to be slightly deeper though and more of a rounded profile and my hand would cramp up a bit on some gigs. The SB14 is less deep and a bit flatter at the back although the same 38mm nut width. Its only a minor thing but for some reason my hand is fine on the cheaper bass. And I swear I cannot hear any difference in the sound at all - it's pretty much identical. I see you have a Sandberg VM4 in your collection - i had an old one of those and the SB14 neck is very close to that. The fingerboard radius is a bit rounder on the SB14 - my Sandy was noticeably flatter.

I can’t comment on the current Sterling series basses and neck widths but I have a Sterling SB14 which I think would have been a forerunner of them. If you can find one they’re an absolute bargain but you don’t see them often. It’s an Indonesian built Sterling with the smaller body, headstock, pickup switching options and jazz neck from a few years back which I believe were sent to the USA factory for final set up and QC control. Having previously owned and sold a ‘proper’ USA Sterling (amongst various other USA Stingrays) I much prefer my little SB14. Sound wise and quality wise I can’t tell the difference between it and it’s expensive USA big brother but I much prefer the neck. It’s still jazz width but it’s less full in the hand and has a satin finish rather than the waxed MM one. I used to cramp up on the old one but I don’t with this.

£200 is perfect - the door will be open to a load of good quality basses that won't hold you back as you progress. Buy from the classifieds on here if you can and you'll easily get a great bass - the people on here are a great bunch as a rule and don't be scared to ask questions, we've all been where you are. Look at stuff by Yamaha, Squier and Ibanez as a starting point. As you're starting out you may find something with a "Jazz" width neck (38mm) as it's pretty slim and you should find it easier on your hands. Ibanez are known for having skinny and easy to play necks. Good luck with your new journey and always remember that you're doing it for your own enjoyment!

NBD: SKC Bogart Blackstone (with history) owners welcome!
Mudpup replied to Chris2112's topic in Bass Guitars
You should at least contact Bogart to register your disappointment - give them a chance to throw some options at you and make the call from there. It seems a bit odd to me just to suck it up and throw more of your own money into sorting out a manufacturing issue within a warranty period? -
Here you go.... https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Quilter_800.html

Quilter Bass Block 800. A total of 4 knobs (and 2 of those are volume and gain) Simpler than me.....

Are you getting sound? Is it just that the clip LED isn't lighting up? if it's on both amps it must be an input issue from your bass or signal chain. Maybe a dodgy lead?

Bargain alert (or maybe not) - Musicman content

hence the line at the bottom....:-) -
Apologies if this is anyone on here but does this look a bit ambitiously priced? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124745235260?hash=item1d0b653b3c:g:cusAAOSwUZhgr~Xh Ooops i just saw someone else had posted the same thing - sorry Mods

The Maruthingy basses got a lot of love a while back (possibly one of those brands of the moment maybe?) but more recently there were a few quality issues that seemed to be dealt with poorly and I don't thnk they covered themselves in glory. It would certainly stop me buying one anyway. Try a Sandberg......

Sat in my new Stressless chair with an empty house playing Mammoth WVH on Spotify right now - a rare moment of me time on a Saturday. First impressions are that i really like it - good songwriting and he really has his own identity going on

Ooooffff!!! That Spector ❤️......... I would be happy sitting at home looking at that! And i bought a few bits during lockdown but realised that it was because i was bored rather than needed them so moved most of them on. Apart from a Handbox R400 which i'm looking forward to giving it the beans :-)

Pat Travers has done some Bob Marley ones - a couple of my personal undiscovered gems....

That's expensive IMHO. I thought they were usually about £400/500?

New Wave has thrown up some cracking bass lines
Mudpup replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Would you call earlier Simple Minds New Wave? Derek Forbes basslines on this album have always been some of my favourites... (And he apparently played bass on Kirsty McColl's New England so he's period correct) -
Its a Musicman so wont be lacquered like most other maple boards. They have some sort of thin matt protection on them i guess but they still get filthy.....
