  1. This would be my dream always wanted to front a Dr.Feelgood covers band, I currently front a Blues/Rock covers band and the only Feelgood number we do is Down at the Doctors...good luck.
  2. Hi Maude, Usually if we play locally or just out of town the punters know what to expect...posters ect with the bands you cover but know were your coming from....not saying our way works we have had our fair share of good and bad gigs....we don't do the run of the mill stuff to be honest, has we're all late 50s to mid 60s it's a tad self indulgent these days playing stuff we want....those who know there music love something different but the usual whizzed up punters who wouldn't know a good tune if it was sat on there face brigade don't get it...but we stick to our guns and have a decent following.
  3. Nah leave the juke box on....folks have put money in, nothing more annoying than a band coming in and setting up and having to listen to there crap choice of music...unless it's some decent classic 70s rock.
  4. Rory Gallagher....'Blues'.....can't whack a bit of Rory..
  5. Going well....started with a get together a few weeks ago for a jam just Vocals, Guitar and Bass we now have a drummer lined up so fingers crossed hopefully get the odd cancelation gig this year and a few next year....really pleased to be back in a band.
  6. If singer A ticks all the boxes but just lacks a bit of balls I would give him the nod like everything he will only get better.
  7. Be yourselves at least then they know what to expect. Nothing worse than been false, it's always a bit awkward for both parties, if it goes well compliment the individual, if it doesn't just be as diplomatic as possible without been rude, good luck.
  8. Hello Folks Just enquiring about best music shops to get a half decent P.A from in the Lincolnshire/Humberside maybe Yorkshire area I have just recently re-joined my old band from a few years back as Vocalist/Frontman I very rarely play Bass these days and 2 of my previous bands I was Vocalist. Need to trade some Basses and Acoustics don't really know of anywhere who will do a decent trade in since Electro Music Doncaster closed any help gladly appreciated cheers Bob.
  9. Silly quote from a 1 hit wonder as the great saying goes "LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL"....good Rock music will never die and I would hardly class Primal Scream as proper Rock band just some idiot trying to bump up there dying popularity because they have and never had anything worth saying....button it Mr Gillespie and crawl back under your stone.
  10. Hi Scott some good and fair comments I must admit when I click onto a video I usually see how long it is and if it doesn't grab me within a few minutes I tend not to bother but Respect to you for trying to put your views and bass playing expertise out there...reason I don't or won't is because i'm pretty average player and the criticism would destroy my lack of confidence even more lol....keep up the good work but my advice would be keep 'em short and to the point, all the best.
  11. Sorry Scott got to disagree on that one as a weekend warrior on and off for the past 40 odd years...in my experience if you don't play covers on the local pub/club circuit you would soon be twiddling your thumbs at home with no gigs...just my humble opinion
  12. We parted on decent terms and all remained friends I meet up regular with the Bassist for a few jars....just hoping we can keep Stan our Guitarist keen. Drummers in Grimsby are like hens teeth.
  13. Went to see my old Guitarist in his band on Saturday night and our Bassist was there as well (I was Frontman/Vocalist) we all got chatting and all agreed we'd like to get together again for a jam and see were it goes...unfortunately we parted company in 2011 because our Drummer was in so many bands it was causing friction, we tried to find a replacement but to no avail and we all went our separate ways, we have all toyed with re-forming in the past but nothing came of it, but now myself and the Bassist have been bandless for quite sometime the Guitarist is with his band but in my opinion wasted in them, so fingers crossed we'll get together and see how things go and hopefully re-form.
  14. Unfortunately no pics but my first Bass was an Encore P for £50 in candy apple red I sanded it down to the bare wood 3 piece body surprisingly not ply and a Carlsbro 90w amp can't remember what I paid for the amp was ok in the house but went for my first band practice and it popped and farted had a hole in speaker lol.
  15. Scrap the originals and concentrate on the covers from vast experience punters don't want to hear originals not in a pub anyway...plus the landlord won't book you again if your not playing to the audience. In my last band we were all old mates who had been in lot's of previous bands and all had years of gigging experience we decided from the off we wasn't going to do the run of the mill cover thing that every other band did, so we set about learning album tracks from our favourite classic 70s Rock era, personally I thought we had a brilliant 2 sets but we died on our derrières and soon had to throw the pub faves in. Insist on getting together keep it simple and work on intros and endings and get your frontman to get a little banter going if you don't go down well don't fret as you will learn a lot from your mistakes, best of luck and have a gud'n.
  16. Never been a fan of Ska and Reggae but Horace comes across a really nice guy and I have to agree with a lot of his comments, thanks for sharing enjoyed that.
  17. Welcome aboard Nicksie as a big fan of James Jamerson don't bother cleaning it or changing the strings as the dirt and grime add to the Funk lol....myself I never clean mine and very rarely change the strings, hate the sound and feel of new strings especially roundwounds, but everyone is different, well worn in strings and a foam mute under the strings at the bridge give the bass that old fashioned warm thud....new strings are annoyingly ringy with lots of unwanted overtones at times just my opinion, best of luck.
  18. Couldn't even watch it just that ridiculous nerdy look and pose was enough to think what a prick
