  1. Just purchased my old Bass back today I bought it originally from Electro Music before it shut down...it's an ESP Pancho Tomaselli signature bass (Jazz configuration) stunning Bass I purchased it second hand for about £650 I think new these were about £1000 plus......Swamp Ash body, Maple Neck, EMGX pups, Gotoh bridge absolute beaut but was a bit to Rock for me in shape....but I did a straight swap with a couple of Electric Guitars and it's back with me....was a fool to get rid first time but won't be going again....happy days.
  2. Will definitely subscribing to your channel Neil
  3. Still in shock was only in Hull the other tues on the UFO last orders 50th Anniversary tour....can't believe RIP Paul a fine Guitarist and Keyboardist x
  4. Aye it's a monster bassline I keep plugging away got bits off quite well.....pre-chorus and chorus i need to nail better but a work in progress, heard several local bands cover this and although played reasonably well not heard anyone come close to Neil Murrays epic bassline, he is one of my favourite bassists so melodic yet powerful too.
  5. Excellent cover been working on this in the past but not in the same league....I should give up lol
  6. Sorry can't help on that one, I always worried about the extra tension on the neck as I tried some flats years ago and they seemed very tight (I was told they put a lot more tension on the neck)???? but I removed them as I never really got on with them and stick to rounds, but often feel i'm missing out not trying out different strings, hope you get sorted.
  7. Love the Blues....I still kick myself because many moon's ago I had chance to play Bass for a top local Blues Trio but wasn't overly confident as at the time i'd not been playing long and I was speaking to the guitarist/singer and I asked for a set list so I could learn some songs for an audition....his reply was "can you play a 12 bar".....I said yes and he replied come down for a jam (which I should of) but my confidence got the better and I declined....wish I had of gone now and just blagged it.
  8. I like Joe he's probably a bit advanced for me but I have picked up some useful tips.....Arianne Capp is also good but there's so many good online resources out there I have picked up lots of bits n pieces just browse them all and take in what you can.
  9. UFO tonight Hull New Theatre 50th Anniversary final tour....this will be my 5th time I have seen them first time in 76 classic Mogg, Schenker, Way, Raymond, Parker line up see them again with Tonker Chapman on guitar, then Atomic Tommy M and twice with Vinnie Moore on guitar always a class act...also seen the off-shoots including Fastway and Waysted several times...spent a memorable evening with Pete Way and Fin Muir slightly worse for wear lol at the Yardbirds Grimsby.....sad day for Rock n Roll when such a great band ends.
  10. My personal opinion and been well in my 50s I would say the UK hands down the classic rock of the late 60s/70s through to the NWOBHM in the 80s we ruled....the mainstream chart music in my eyes died after 79 we had that horrible dirge of electronic girlie music in the 80s...that awful Britpop sxxt of the 90s, then the noughties things just got worse....but the 70s/80s spawned the greatest Heavy Rock Bands in that classic era.
  11. Thanks for the info folks was just curious I know the FG-180 Acoustic is quite sort after or so I have been told I looked online about a year or so ago they were fetching upto a grand so been the Red label 'Nickon Gakki' probably worth a bit...as for the Bass I have had it 6 to 7 years and it was bought second hand but not a problem I will maybe look the serial no' up and get a rough idea of it's age I didn't realise the logo had changed back to the original logo, so thanks for the information.
  12. What year did Yamaha change there logo I have 2 Yamaha instruments one is a vintage Nokon Gakki Red label FG-180 Acoustic dated between Nov 70 and April 71 and a Yamaha Bass both with the older Tuning/Pitch Fork Logo just wondering when they changed the logo as I don't know how old the Bass is I have had it a good few years bought second hand and not sure of the make but it's a nice Bass cheers.
  13. Think the bottom line is try the 14 day free trial as I did.....there's tons of stuff on there but wasn't for me, because if I was going to join something like SBL I would prefer just one tutor for example Joe Hubbard, Tony Grey, Arianna Capp ect as they seem one to one....but SBL offers lots of guidance ect but I found it a bit overwhelming and just to much on offer and to many guest seminars ect.
  14. Lol I remember them music lessons our tutor was a horrible man I got chucked out of the music class because I refused to learn some silly nursery rhyme on recorder and disrupted the class trying to bang out the drum beat to Alice Coopers Black Juju with 2 pencils on the table...Rock n Roll lol.
  15. Personally I think Basschat is the best Forum going obviously I play Bass but also Guitar and I have joined a couple of Acoustic Guitar Forums and to be quite frank they are as dull as ditch water....everyone has an opinion just like yours above but believe me this is a friendly informative forum and I would doubt you'd find better.
  16. I tried the 14 day free trial but unsubscribed after about 7 days, admittedly there's a ton of stuff but the constant emails some repeated became a bit overkill...personally speaking I like the online lessons that you can access but my reason for not going with SBL is it's not personal enough he has too many other guest Bassists so it can be overwhelming and some of the videos on how to change strings, must have basses, get the tone of the pro's blah, blah....I liked the Danny Mo Morris RnB course and Phil Mann's Chord Tone Concepts but there was a lot of guest bassists who I have never heard of which didn't float my boat....I like Joe Hubbard but very expensive and a bit beyond me and been a non-reader I think i'd be wasting my money, but I like his one to one approach...unfortunately I think Scott will implode with his own success but hats off to him for trying but keep it more personal Scott you don't need all the guests and the silly Campus daily routine "who cares what other folks are practising". Also the interview with Bobby Vega when Bobby admits he has no formal musical knowledge he plays what sounds good to him....I agree with that....but Scott sat there agreeing with him basically saying yeah Bobby learning all this theory is Bullxxxx I just thought it bizzare.
  17. I must have the L.A mix as this is far busier and not so clear sounds like some sort of echo/repeat on this mix or something as it sounds like 2 different basslines...your right it's very busy but sorry I prefer the L.A mix simply because of the better production but just my preference and indeed Mr.Babbitt was a fine bassist RIP
  18. Yeah my Columbus is plywood and the neck is very chunky and buzzes on G string, absolute plank but often loan it out to anyone just starting or looking at starting if they can't afford one....but has come back in some terrible states, last time I loaned it to our drummers son he wanted a bass he had it for a couple of years and it came back unplayable...even though it was a cheapo bass it didn't deserve to be abused like it was. thanks for reply.
