  2. SAHB....one of if not the best live band ever....loved 'em.....R.I.P....Alex....never forgotten.
  3. My first Bass was an Encore [red] Precision with proper retro precision style headstock, rosewood fretboard ect....i stripped it down and it was made of 3 pieces of solid wood not ply.....used this bass in my first band an old rock n roll outfit and it sounded great fat, punchy but warm sound played thro' an old Carlbro' Viper 90w combo wish i still had both.....Bought for £50 mid 90s and it'd been passed around a bit by then so unsure how old? I also had a 75 Columbus [natural finish] Precision made in japan wish i still had....Currently got a Squier C.V Jazz Bass....always had low end basses as i'd never been able to afford top end bass....but always coped.
  4. [quote name='thebigyin' timestamp='1333917125' post='1608294'] My First Bass was a Red Encore Precision....which i stripped down and was made of 3 parts of solid wood not ply....but believe me it did the job i played in a rock n roll band at the time and it really sounded the bizz....i payed £50 for it and was the best £50 i'd ever spent it had a lovely warm fat tone....played thro' an old Carlsbro' Viper 90w Combo....still wish i had it to be honest....i think it was passed around a bit before i got it which was mid 90s....quite heavy with a nice playable neck, rosewood fretboard and retro precision headstock....so yeah was well chuffed with mine.....same with an old columbus precision i had too....a limited budget as always restricted me to low end basses....but i've coped....somehow....got a squier cv jazz at mo'. [/quote] Sorry Guyz Wrong thread meant to post on other encore related thread....Doh.

  6. Welcome aboard get some good topics ect on 'ere, very helpfull site.
  7. I played in a Country/Blues band several years ago alot of 12 bar type stuff and soon got my knuckles wrapped for trying to be to clever at times....just keep it simple and lock in with the drummer and you'll be fine.....I blagged my audition with them with some basic blues riffs and got the job. But then i started to try impress and like i say soon got put in my place....Good Luck.
  8. Only one 'Gallagher'....the late great 'Rory'....now he could play guitar.
  9. Hi Matt, Im having me second bash at 50....and not doing very good.....but i'll keep plugging away....welcome aboard.
  10. Thankyou so much for all the advice guyz.....it is much appreciated....i will get a set on asap....once again cheers.
  11. Forgive me for this question but am i ok to put a set of 'flats' on a squier cv jazz bass.....the chap at store were i purchased it doesn't recomend it? He say's 'flats' are better on a precision? as the jazz neck is thinner [which i new].....I mentioned why do they use 'flats' on a fretless jazz then.....but he couldn't answer or have i answered my own question? Bit confused as i don't want to cause any harm to neck of bass.....any feedback would be appreciated. I'm just starting back after a long layoff....not in a band yet....just practising at mo'.....i'm into Blues, RnB old school vibe ect....if this can add any light to above?.....I read somewhere that 'Jerry jemmott' used 'flats' on his jazz plus foam muting ect to get that 'sound' i'm after. Cheers Bob.
  12. Thanks guyz for the imput.....i love the vintage frets....the neck ect.....i used to own an old columbus precision before i packed up...[a jap 'mid 70's] in a natural finish wish i still had it.....and before that an encore precision [red] so as you can see never owned a high end bass....but gigged the columbus and encore on many occasions nothing serious just local pub covers bands....did the job....thro' a very old carlsbro' 90w combo....[wish i still had].....i like simplicity...lol. My style is a bit old school i like that vintage 60s/70s sound....don't get me wrong love some these modern players but im out of my depth.....i hear some players and wouldn't know were to start.....but happy and just love the bass.....come to think of it wish i still had the encore had a great bottom end that cut well.
  13. sorry guyz new to this.....what thread??
  14. Hi, Just purchased a squier cv jazz bass has anybody got any views?? I'm just getting back into playing after a long layoff....Feels nice to play and i'm very pleased with it.....havn't got a proper amp even just practising thro' a 10w guitar amp so not even getting an accurate sound....hopefully purchase an amp in new year.....anyone who's got a cv jazz would like to know your thoughts on them ect. many thanks bob.
  15. Greetings bro' great forum this i'm sure you'll make lots of friends.
  16. Hi Jeff, Just joined 'basschat' myself seems like great forum for help and advice but above all 'friendliness'. Keep it simple the old saying 'less is more' the roll of the bassist is to keep it tight and in the groove.....we all try and be clever at times putting them extra few notes but at the end of the day your there to 'keep it in the pocket'......there's lots of books/dvd's just google on amazon....you'll be skint in no time...lol. Learn some basic scales and arpeggios.....in the first position [root] then 2nd and 3rd inversions ect, listen, play along....try find some local jam nights....enjoy. I'm just getting back into bass after a long lay off.....p.m me if you need owt....i will do my best to help.....welcome aboard. cheers bob.
