1.
Might be La Bella supersteps if they have exposed cores. If it's a REALLY old set they might be Superwounds, if that's the case you're out of luck beause they don't make them anymore.
Thanks for the information, Rhys. I think they may be Superwounds. And if they are its a shame they don't make them anymore cause they still sound good and they've been played a lot. Any experience with the Supersteps?
2. I need help identifying a set of strings;

Round wound
Black silks
Exposed core at the bridge
Its an old set I've got that I love the sound of and would like to buy a new set of; its just that I can't for the life of me remember who made them. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
3.
Another Stingray fancier here. Even though the sound is not what I want I'm after, I still love the look of them. I went out and got a lovely black and maple SUB to quench my urge but that still sits in its gig bag.
Me too. I've had a 78 and an 04; both amazing instruments and I wish I still had them. Currently considering getting a SUB myself.
4. Well you could start with Freak Out! and work your way through! If there's a particular song/piece of his you've heard then you could seek out albums from that era. I started by seeing a video of a performance of King Kong which I incorrectly guessed as being from the mid 70s (there was no caption on the video tape I'd borrowed). So I bought a mid 70s LP and worked backwards until I hit 1968 and there it was! By that time I'd got fully into his early 70s. After that I just carried on from 1975 and worked forward. The You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore series are a good mix of songs from different albums/eras. You might want to give them a listen. There's a load of material and plenty I didn't get into straight away and now love. So be bold! What have you heard so far?
5. Ooh I like that. Vocals remind me of For You.
6. George Harrison - Stuck Inside A Cloud
7. Freiheit - Keeping the Dream Alive
8. Gary Byrd and the GB Experience - The Crown Flash and the Pan - Waiting for a Train These two immediately came to mind. Then it struck me that they were released within weeks of each other in 1983. How's that for laughs?
9. The Rollins Band supporting the Chili Peppers at The Brixton Academy in 1992. Great gig all the same. Motorhead didn't strike me as being too loud; just good n loud, if you know what I mean? AC/DC at Download were possibly the loudest band I've heard at an outdoor gig.
10. Have a bump on me. These basses are fantastic. GLWTS
11. Soundgarden - Superunknown. Got it on the day in came out, on clear vinyl no less! All good. Two other favourites of mine have already been mentioned. Chilli Peppers - BSSM and Prince - Sign O The Times. Come to think of it I bought those two on their release dates too. Remember getting home from the record store and the feeling of "wow this is a lot of music!"?
12. Prince - The Ballad of Dorothy Parker "Oh my favourite song" she said And it was Joni singing "Help me I think I'm falling"
13. Yes! Good call. Roceci, that's my favourite track from the LP.
14. Really sad news. He made me laugh both man and boy. When I was a kid I used to listen to him on the radio before going to school, and the songs I always associate with him and then, and will listen to today, are Paul Simon's Slip Sliding Away and Hoyt Axton's Della and the Dealer. Years later he had me in stiches, laughing out loud, tears in my eyes, on the District Line on my way to work in Fulham. More tears today. What a man. RIP Sir Terry Wogan.
15. One of the first singles I bought was Motorhead - Motorhead Live. The last mosh pit I was in was Motorhead, at Hammersmith. Rock n roll through and through. Made me want to play it loud. Everything louder than everything else. RIP Lemmy.
16.
If he leaves you cold, were you ever warm in the first place? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x06PdHYYIg8
Fantastic! Thanks for the link. What Jaco plays at the 8:50 mark; I've just rewatched that about 10 times!
17. Thanks for the link, man. I enjoyed the story about Joni and Lenny!
18. Good call, Dazed. That first chord in Bellyeye does it for me.
19. I have the following; Prince 1988 - Lovesexy tour t-shirt Red Hot Chili Peppers 1990 - Mother's Milk Tour t-shirt and boxer shorts Faith No More 1990 - The Real Thing tour t-shirt
20. Prince - 1990 Nude tour at the Birmingham NEC. Awful sound - bass end mush, and awful rap by whoever it was in the NPG. On top of that there was a whole load of new material which I didn't like. Bear in mind that I'm of the opinion that the run of albums from Prince to Lovesexy is pure gold. Saw him twice in 1988 at Wembley and the NEC and the show and sound were amazing in each, so I can't blame the venue. Saw him in Hammersmith in 2002 and at the O2 in 2007 and both again were superb. So the 1990 gig stands out as a real clunker and as per the topic, was suprisingly awful!
21. Just finished watching it. Fantastic.
22.
What year was that? Do you know about the Fugazi Live Series? You could get the recording of the gig you did't go to
Sometime around 1998 I think, in Stratford. I didn't know about the live series but I have heard enough live Fugazi recordings since to make me regret turning up late that night!
23. Fugazi - got as close as standing outside one of there's but couldn't get in because it was sold out when I got there REM - just never got round to it. Wished I'd have seen them in the early 90s. Supergrass - I'm still puzzled as to why I never saw them. They were fantastic. Frank Zappa - in 1988. This is the one I most regret but I was yet to hear his music (I bought Ship Arriving Too Late... in 1990). At the time of his death I'd become a huge fan. Thankfully Dweezil is now playing his dad's music, and the ZPZ gigs I've been to have all been wonderful.., but I know it's not the same.
24. I don't know about better, but it's the one I prefer; Voivod - Astronomy Domine
25. "It was one of those nights when you turn off the lights And everythin' comes into view" "Dearly beloved We are gathered here today To get through this thing called life" "Help me, I think I'm falling, in love again"
