1. One of the first singles I bought was Motorhead - Motorhead Live. The last mosh pit I was in was Motorhead, at Hammersmith. Rock n roll through and through. Made me want to play it loud. Everything louder than everything else. RIP Lemmy.
2.
If he leaves you cold, were you ever warm in the first place? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x06PdHYYIg8
Fantastic! Thanks for the link. What Jaco plays at the 8:50 mark; I've just rewatched that about 10 times!
3. Thanks for the link, man. I enjoyed the story about Joni and Lenny!
4. Good call, Dazed. That first chord in Bellyeye does it for me.
5. I have the following; Prince 1988 - Lovesexy tour t-shirt Red Hot Chili Peppers 1990 - Mother's Milk Tour t-shirt and boxer shorts Faith No More 1990 - The Real Thing tour t-shirt
6. Prince - 1990 Nude tour at the Birmingham NEC. Awful sound - bass end mush, and awful rap by whoever it was in the NPG. On top of that there was a whole load of new material which I didn't like. Bear in mind that I'm of the opinion that the run of albums from Prince to Lovesexy is pure gold. Saw him twice in 1988 at Wembley and the NEC and the show and sound were amazing in each, so I can't blame the venue. Saw him in Hammersmith in 2002 and at the O2 in 2007 and both again were superb. So the 1990 gig stands out as a real clunker and as per the topic, was suprisingly awful!
7.
What year was that? Do you know about the Fugazi Live Series? You could get the recording of the gig you did't go to
Sometime around 1998 I think, in Stratford. I didn't know about the live series but I have heard enough live Fugazi recordings since to make me regret turning up late that night!
8. Fugazi - got as close as standing outside one of there's but couldn't get in because it was sold out when I got there REM - just never got round to it. Wished I'd have seen them in the early 90s. Supergrass - I'm still puzzled as to why I never saw them. They were fantastic. Frank Zappa - in 1988. This is the one I most regret but I was yet to hear his music (I bought Ship Arriving Too Late... in 1990). At the time of his death I'd become a huge fan. Thankfully Dweezil is now playing his dad's music, and the ZPZ gigs I've been to have all been wonderful.., but I know it's not the same.
9. I don't know about better, but it's the one I prefer; Voivod - Astronomy Domine
10. "It was one of those nights when you turn off the lights And everythin' comes into view" "Dearly beloved We are gathered here today To get through this thing called life" "Help me, I think I'm falling, in love again"
11.
Palace Brothers. (Later known as Days In The Wake.) Saltash Bells. Sound on Sound. Clear Spot. Rising Above Bedlam. Germ-Free Adolescents.
Clear Spot. Good call. It's one of my all time favourite LPs. And it appears to dwell in the shadow of Trout Mask Replica. It is a truly wonderful album.
12.
I'm glad to see you haven't lost your facility with extreme litotes.
Oh, good word usage that man!
13.
I thought that gated snare thing was Bowie's legacy from 'Let's Dance'?
I thought it was "Modern Love"!
14. I'm enjoying The Magic Whip.
15. Thanks ChunkyMunky, I enjoyed that clip. The bassline to Club Tropicana is particularly spiffy.

17. I'll second the view on Alexa De Paris; it's wonderful. And nice to see someone else compare his playing with FZ. I'm a huge fan of both and have for a long time thought the same rather than the usual comparisons with Hendrix which you read about. Back to the b sides, if you can find them, check out the full length versions of; Shockadelica La la la, he he hee B sides to If I Was Your Girlfriend and Sign O The Times respectively. La la la, He he hee even has a bass solo..., played by Prince..., but only on the full length version! The extended versions of Raspberry Beret and Mountains in particular are also well worth seeking out. 17 Days, the flip to When Doves Cry, I think is fantastic and She's Always In My Hair, b side to Paisley Park is possibly my favourite Prince song but then there are so many to choose from. In summary then; if you're in a record store and see a Prince 12". Buy it!
18. Third comment down there's a link to Prince playing bass on Partyman. Check THAT out.
19. Nathan Watts played bass on AC/DC's High Voltage, recorded at Electric Ladyland, through an amp.
20. Thomas Morgan Robertson, prior to changing his name to Thomas Dolby, emitted a high frequency hiss.
21. Despite their claims, Lindisfarne never actually gained legal ownership of the fog on the Tyne
22. I sold my MXR M82 to Geoff. A top bloke to deal with, an all round smashing chap. Had a friendly chat on the telephone as we sorted things out and the payment was made really quickly. Recommended!
23. SOLD Thanks for all the responses. (Sorry about the multiple posts!) Mike
