1. Our old drummer was a stroppy sod. We were soundchecking one night and the sound engineer asks for the kick drum, so he hits it once. Engineer asks him to do it again, so he does, once. Engineer says "Can you keep doing it mate?". Our drummer repeated this process for the next couple of toms then one of the guitarists shouted to the other "got a spare battery?", quick as a flash the engineer shouts "what for? your ******* drummer?!" .
2. Still miss mine, Ive owned a couple of US fenders since but I'll definately pick up another Japanese Jazz when finances permit. Really, really loved that bass.
3. Went for white with black hardware, it looks bloody gorgeous! infact, if it's available in left hand my wallet may be in trouble .
4.
They'll tell you everything you want to know if you mail them and ask
They had a couple I'd have loved to get my hands on. Took them two and a half weeks to reply, by which time they were sold .
5. Played in C at an audition and it sounded pretty good, unfortunately they only seemed to want to play WWF/E wrestler intro music so that didn't last .
6. Love Zeppelin, a mates dad got us into them and Ive been hooked ever since. I like the odd Sabbath track but beyond that they don't do much for me, infact I actually fell asleep watching them live and woke up rolling down the hill I was watching from. Bit annoying as I think I missed War Pigs .
7. Definately looks like a Westone and I actually really like the random nature of the controls
8. Not normally a fan of Warwicks or gold hardware but that really is a great looking bass! congrats
9. Had one with the P/J config and It compared surprisingly well to the US/Jap Fenders Ive owned. Pups let it down a bit but theyre easily replaced and the general fit and finish was great for the money.
10. Could check out some Skunk Anansie, some nice bass tracks there plus the female vocalist.
11. Mine was equal parts terror and elation, felt like my legs were shaking so much I must have appeared to be having a go at an Elvis impersonation! It helped that we knew a fair chunk of the crowd so we went down well even though we were pretty shoddy. All in all it was of the best nights Ive ever had
12. I only found this place searching for used lefty Fenders, just missed out on a fantastic looking bass at an amazing price. As well as being a great source on information Ive been amazed at some of generous prices on used gear on here for what generally looks like very well cared for good quality kit.
13.
has anyone got any other frustrations or thoughts? is there anything that you would like your current studio to offer i.e. live recording whilst using a rehearsal room, chill out area that offers drinks / food? does your studio have a 'change over' period between bands i.e. 15 mins between each booking?
The fifteen minute thing is a nice idea, suppose it would add up quickly and eat into profit but it's so bloody annoying when a band finish bang on the hour and want to spend ten to fifteen minutes of your time packing away.
14.
(Robannas in Brum being one, used to be able to get a nice Trace rig or HH though some of the stuff was a bit ropey).
I think Robannas is the only rehearsal place I've used where we actuallly had a couple of rats make an appearance. Again with their gear it's pot luck but given what you hear coming through the walls Im not surprised that they don't invest in high end gear, it wouldn't last five minutes.
15. We had a police van turn up and cut us off once. The gig was out the back of a Sutton Coldfield pub on a Saturday night and apparently there had been a bunch of noise complaints. We did get paid though and resolved to sound less offensive in future
16. I'd be tempted to go with black pearl, having said that I do like the way it looks now!
17. My deluxe jazz came with a set and theyre still listed on the site as part of the included kit.
18. My US deluxe lefty jazz, the second I had it in my hands I knew it was meant to be . It's taken a long time and a fair few basses but this one is every thing Ive ever wanted in a bass. Also my Encore E83 P bass, started with it fifteen years ago, its one of the heaviest basses Ive ever held, the neck is like baseball bat and the pickups are crap. Wouldn't be without it though and I might finally get around to a bit of modding on it soon.
19. Nine times out of ten for me its "Does that one go to eleven?" asked by someone who thinks them having asked this is the funniest thing thats ever happened .
20. I can definately remember one occasion (there may have been one other) where I can most of the way to a venue without my bass. I'd like to think it was down to the effort of loading the old and shockingly heavy rig I was using at the time, unfortunately it's more likely to be down to me being thick as ****!
21. Think Ive still got my Peavey Mk vi in my days shed. Really must check to make sure it's ok/still there. Got it fairly cheap about fifteen years ago and coupled with a pretty large 2x15 cab. Sounded great whatever cab it was run through and I'm really hoping it's still in working order, looking forward to having a play with it! Don't miss lugging it around though, I remember having to lug that and then the cab up a three floor fire escape and very nearly killing myself in the process .
22. Absolutely stunning pictures of a truly beautiful bass!
23. Nearly every time we picked up the guitarist for a gig/rehearsal - "I am SO drunk" as he's opening another can. Me to said guitarist "did you learn the solo for that song", the reply was invariably "Yeah, no problem!" he would then just get on his Wah and knockout the exact same solo he did for every song . And finally the last gig I played with him, "What did you think? that was amazing!", yeah mate which bit? you being drunk and off your face on whatever youve managed to get up your nose? the song you played with your trousers round your ankles or maybe the bit in Hey Joe where you fell over and spent the rest of the song lying on your back pushing yourself around the stage? All from the guy who every month or so would sit us down and tell us how we had to really knuckle down and get serious, jesus bloody wept!
24.
I have to admit playing the bass is great, my new Wal has just given me a real boost again and I'm loving it.
Getting a new bass always reminds me how much I love playing. Always got on ok with my Ray but recently fancied a change and got a Jazz and I cant stop playing it. I put in plenty of hours on the old bass but it never quite clicked with me. Genuinely cant put the new one down. It really is inspiring to get your hands on a bass that instantly feels at home in your hands. Whether playing with a band or just practicing on my own playing bass just gives me something I havent found anywhere else, almost like meditation .
25. Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden rarely gets mentioned anywhere. Interesting player and Down On The Upside has some really nice bass lines on it.
