1. I found a Stingray I'd sold a few years ago on these very boards. I'd ordered it new in '02, black/black/maple. I remarked to my OH that I was sure it was mine, then I remembered I'd registered on the EB forum to get the date of manufacture, dug up my old post and confirmed the serial. Wasn't quite in the mint condition the ad claimed, needs a replacement machine head, for some reason has a screw missing from the pickup and the battery box needs replacing, I'll be dropping it off at a good local luthier tomorrow. It still plays and looks lovely and I'm really, really happy to have it back
2. Yeah, finish makes it look a lot more like that.
3. Yamaha bb404 according to t'interweb. Never understood why they use those controls on so many basses, they cheapen the look :s
4. Can't find fault with that at all, an absolutely fantastic looking bass!
5. Great job on Little Monster, absolutely spot on, will look forward to the video on the board as well! Really enjoying Royal Blood's Figure it out, like a few of their other songs it reminds me a bit of QOTSA and itseems to be getting a fair bit of airplay. The more I hear it the more I like it, their album is a definite purchase for me, out on the 25th of this month I think.
6. Played with one at a battle of the bands in Wolverhampton. Couldn't see another band member or anyone else for a few songs! Was so bloody thick I was scared to move for fear of falling off the stage. It was worth it in the end though, we finished joint last...
7.
This why I never buy sight unseen online. I feel sorry for the OP.
Honestly, other than some wasted time it couldn't have worked out better for me, I'm not out of pocket over any of this and getting my old Stingray back has been fantastic. Never thought I'd see that bass again and the timing of me getting my refund and that bass cropping up, what are the odds of that? I swear it was meant to be!
8. Both of the basses I had were clearly used, Sandberg had no response other than confirming that and assuring me that were I to place a custom order I'd get a better bass. All of the cosmetic issues were down to Thomann, won't be ordering anything from them any time soon. Still not sure why the neck pockets were so sloppy and the paint around them damaged though, it is a real shame because they sounded as good as anything I've ever heard and I hope your new one is spot on! I now have the Stingray back that I owned from new though, all's well that ends well
9. Initial response was, not the best looking bass but for a budget offering not too bad, then I saw the price and nearly soiled myself!
10. I'd certainly persevere, some things sound better with fingers, some with a pick, being able to utilise both styles is certainly worthwhile.
11.
Sean Yseult from White Zombie. She blew me away with her style.....and may I say fwoor indeed.
I'd just come in to add Sean, always had a great tone and her look really worked for the band. Black Sunshine linked below, her bass kicks in at around 30 seconds for those that don't know the track and I love that tone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqPClltS5k8
12. Just in case you don't see the PM first, I'm very interested if this is still for sale!
13. Interestingly after my poor Sandberg experience the Stingray I owned from new has just popped up for sale and my god am I tempted to give it another go. Its like its meant to be, serial checks out and it looks as good as it did when i sold it, thought I was done with Stingrays but I'm really excited at the prospect getting my old one back!
14. Cheers for the suggestions, checking them now
15. In this case the drummer may have been a bit heavy handed but Ive rarely seen someone acts as unprofessionally as your ex singer during a gig. It really boggles my mind that someone would need to be told that checking their phone constantly whilst onstage isn't acceptable. I'd have been tempted to get my phone out and text him his marching orders
Phones, ban them at gigs
Wish we could ban them from audiences as well, so fed up of going to gigs and watching a band through a sea of phone screens! just so people can have a low quality, crap sounding video clip to show their mates
16. Just restringing (removed the strings to get the photos the retailer asked for) and under sod all pressure the nut popped off, I'm so glad I've been able to get a refund on this!
17. Hey all, sold my only bass to get a new one and issues with that mean I'm currently without one and am itching to get another bass. Obviously basschat's own ads, ebay, I also keep an eye on Thomann, Musikproductiv and the ads on Arnis lefty bass site. New or used, I'm not too fussy but I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest any other places for tracking down a nice left handed bass!
18. Has to be worth getting in touch with Sandberg, even if they end up sending you back to the less than helpful retailer at least you'll get to vent a bit. Sandberg's customer service can't be any worse than their non existant QC! I'm currently waiting to hear back from them and curious to hear what they have to say about the poor quality of the basses I had.
19. Sounds great and minus bug spender Id happily watch that set .
20. I have been in touch with Sandberg, just interested to see what they say about the very poor quality of these basses. The cheapest bass I ever bought was £130 and the components weren't up to much but the fit and finish was better than either Sandberg!
21. Not sure which way to go bass wise but there is a Sterling up for sale that looks mighty purdy....
22. Cheers, absolutely agree about the MM stuff as well, mine was as well built an instrument as I've ever handled, couldn't find even the tiniest fault with it and the neck was just such a nice piece of maple. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky in the BC for sale section, seen a lot of great stuff go in there
23. Looks like a lot of fun, plus that Spector really tempted me as well, if I'd had to cash at the time I'd have snapped it up, fantastic looking bass!
24. I believe you, sold a bass myself to finance this, that was five years old and had one tiny dent that I had to look for to find, was otherwise in better condition than this. I've been in touch with them and asked for a refund and expressed my disappointment, not sure what I'll look to replace it with, being a lefty my choice is a little limited but bass shopping is always exciting . *Edit* They're arranging a return, staff were as usual very friendly and helpful, just a shame they didn't have another in stock.
25. Sorry, my other half helpfully took them down, I've put a couple back for reference They took that bass back agreeing that the condition wasn't great. It now seems to be listed as B stock with signs of wear. Anyway they confirmed the replacement I was sent was itself a used item, as above the strings were utterly dead and there was a shocking amount of grime on the frets, fret wear and skin/dust round the pickups. They no longer have the bass in stock, I can get a refund or they've said if I go and get a written quote for a setup/fret dressing they may foot the bill. Here are some shots of the replacement I'm just really disappointed, would be sloppy of them to let this through once never mind twice and I don't even think the neck pocket on this one is much better than the last. I was thinking about keeping it but the more I think about it, the more I feel inclined to just get my money back and go elsewhere. This bass had a signed sticker that it had passed Thomann's QC checks!
