1. Glad to hear that they intend to look into it properly, hopefully this could still end with you getting your gear back
2. Not sure I see the lolz to be honest, emptied the pub and annoyed the person paying you. What a great victory for artistic integrity
3.
when you finally get that song you have been struggling with for a while and it clicks there is no better feel.
It really is, got a song down today that I'd become frustrated with and walked away from a couple of times. Must have played the whole song through twenty plus times before my other half threatened to brain me, was having so much fun playing it and I was just so damned happy to have got it down. Like Blue said above, it's even worse when it's a line well within your technical capability but somehow it just won't click!
4. Yeah, truly crappy April fool but wow, that bass looks so damn good (minus the apple logos of course). The bad cutout job almost looks like binding on the neck which makes the bass look eve n better
5.
Billy Gould for me - great bassist.
Don't know how I forgot him, fantastic, understated player whos style and tone is such an important part of his bands sound. Billy and Mike Bordin are an amazing rhythm section.
6.
Replies have been useful and encouraging. Well i get more time to practise in the school holidays, so shall try to nail the actual line before I adapt it. Part of the reason it's buried is that it's in drop c tuning. Can we really distinguish pitch all that well that low? I take the point that it's good to be stretched. Still, it would be nice to have a few new ones that we could knock out without too many hours of learning. :-)
Pushing yourself the way you are will make newer tracks easier to learn, it really will benefit you in the long run even if it seems frustrating to begin with. When ever I see bands playing in that tuning in smaller venues like pubs, the guitars seem muddy and the bass just farts away without too much definition. Seems like it can be tricky to make it sound good.
7. Everyone I was going to suggest, Kris Novaselic, Ben Shephard, Mick Quinn and Fat Mike already mentioned Gabe Nelson from Cake is another good shout, always like Berry Oakley's playing too, shame there wasn't more of it .
8.
Should have specified in the OP that it was more about the electricity used and keeping you and your fellow bandmates safe if somewhere has potentially dangerous/unclean electricity. Maybe it's something slightly paranoid, but I've heard stories about people getting electrocuted onstage and I want to try and prevent that from happening.
Read a lot of first gig threads but never one where electricity was the main concern! don't worry about it, at most modern venues it really won't be an issue, maybe all wear rubber soled shoes if you're overly concerned Most people are concerned with a million other details, take spares of anything you can, try and relax and you'll have a great time, it'll be an electrifying experience
9. Those basses are so different I think you need to better define what you're looking for in your new bass. What sort of stuff do you play? what sort of sound are you looking for? I think it's more important to find which one best fits you rather than everyone else
10. Saw them at the Wolves Civic at couple of weeks ago and they were great.Their live sound lacked nothing, was a really good set and Ben on drums was fantastic, all the talk about the band seems to be about the bass but his drumming lays a great foundation for Mike to do his thing on bass. Definitely worth seeing if you get the chance!
11. Fair do's, just wanted to be fair with the vote. Wasn't easy to pick either, quality is pretty damn high all round.
12. It's not something I consciously try and do but there are some passages and fills in songs that I play this way without thinking about, just seems to happen naturally.
13. McBass ‘Hoodoo Voodoo’ won't play for me, throws up an error on soundcloud. Don't want to vote without hearing each track!
14. Wow, stack knobs and matching head stock, that's pretty bloody nice!
15.
The real issue is that there are those set on trying to dissuade me from having and expressing an opinion about an instrument that I bought.
No it really isn't. Many of the criticisms you have seem to be aimed at their basses in general, based on a sample size of one from a couple of decades ago. Theirs no objectivity at all expressed in your posts, did John Hall take a dump through your letter box or something? Every manufacturer puts out good and bad instruments, Fenders 70s output seemed to vary massively in quality but most people don't try one, feels its not up to scratch and slate their output decades later based on their experience of one instrument.
16. You should be working for them in product development! upgraded P, cool jazz and a great string ray variant. Great work as always! Also MrFingers, that Epiphone is just gorgeous, you've done a fantastic job on that finish.
17. I've found Ricks have really grown on me over the years to the point where I'm really starting to GAS for one. Nothing else looks or sounds quite like one and I really feel that I need to own one at some point.
18. I like them a lot with Matt, always liked Alkaline Trio and my main problem with Blink 182 was Tom's whiny vocals and lame banter. I really hope they move forward and do more with this line up!
19. My local place is pretty decent, they've got rid of the rats and the owner seems to have stopped leaving swingers mags around and inviting us to his special'adult' parties
20. Hope so, I've been using large quantities of it to prepare my magic beans, heard it increases their magicosity by a factor of 8!!!
21.
Love it, looks amazing, what a clever idea putting the controls on the back of the bass, great work John
Big fan of the finish but doing that really was a good idea and makes a great looking bass even better looking!
22. Enjoyed the video enough to checkout some more of their stuff. I had heard of them but had no idea about the Lizzy connection until I heard it here. Plus, cowboy song and boys are back in town back to back as on live and dangerous makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, Awesome!
23. Just concentrate on the music, lock in, do what you should be doing and the rest will take care of itself. Before you know it it'll be over and you'll be looking forward to doing it again!
24. I was wondering what could possibly lead someone to put together such a mess of an auction.
Im drummer
Ahhhh case closed
25.
I wish. SUCH a good groove! If that doesn't fill the floor then you're in a room full of people who are dead inside. You should probably run away as soon as you can.
Thanks for that suggestion, just such a great line to play and when my bass isn't in my hands I've still got that bass line going in my head. It's been jammed in there for days now!
