1. yeah they need about 200v of negative bias so you pretty much need a different power amp for them
2. they're really not a drop in replacement at all. Totally different valve
3.
OP says the bass was plugged in, but doesn't say he played it so far as I've noticed; if he'd hit a note it & had it out of standby it could have been curtains; I've known some folk get away with it & put it down to superior Partridge tranny build. But I've been reliably informed by some valve amp techs that an amp without cabs plugged in isn't in any danger until a load is put on the amp - ie. you try to play through it. It's been covered umpteen times on here & other forums.
This is true. pretty much the only way you blow output transformers
4.
No speaker on a valve amp normally means burnt out output transformer very quickly. You're very lucky.
not really if he didn't take it out of standby it wont hurt it.
5. i've got an unloaded 412 going
6.
Reminds me I need to sort that Bass 200 I found out. I'll get a solid figure on the price, Jeff tends to underquote on the first model (don't worry he'll stick to it for anyone with that quote) but I think over time they will creep up. But hey could be wrong. I'll check with them now.
wanna sell it so i can get it fixed ;o
7. it shouldn't be clipping like that. turn the bass down
8. The matamp book is also a good read. Cheaper to. Bet its on better quality paper and printed in the uk rather than china to
9. Also have an empty Dynatone 4X12 cabinet I'd like to get rid of, it's a great looking cab thats VERY solid. It looks like this; want about 50OBO for it Also up for sale is a 100watt selmer PA, this is in full working order and has had a full service, sounds absolutely mint. Selmers are definatly my favorite amps at the moment but we have 3 others in the studio so no need for this. Bad point about it is that it has no handle or valves in it at the minute, which means i'm willing to let it go for a cheap price. Obviously i can valve it all up for you at your expense though if you like. 10. Thought i'd make a list of amps i'm currently trying to shift that are in full working order. Got a marshall model 2001 amp. Is marshall bigger badder answer to the svt. History was bands endorsed by marshall were complaining because they wanted to use svts since the superbasses wern't cutting it so they gave them these. So it's essentially a more powerful marshally sounding svt. It absolutely roars and gets biblically loud. does 420W (benched) into 4, 8 or 16 ohms and runs an octet of kt88s also has a post power amp DI so you can get the sound going directly to the desk. It has minor damage to the tolex and the chassis could do with a bit of a clean. here are some bad pictures of it. Going to be getting some better pictures soon. After around £900 for this. Can do for cheaper without power amp valves. Second i have a hiwatt Custom bass 100 which basically does the hiwatt thing with awesome build quality and getting super loud without getting to fuzzy. Does 100watts with 4el34s into 4 / 8 / 16 ohms. It has a lil ware to the corners other than that it's in great nick with a decent set of valves. It's missing the back panel to but it's all fairly self explanitory apart from the 3rd jack next to the speaker outs is a line out. after around 600 for this. Other amps for sale but no pictures etc are. Selmer TV15 - tis one of the very early selmer combos made in the 1950's. In good condition internally and fully restored. The exterior is showing it's age though. Ask me if you have more questions about this. Currently has the wrong impedence speaker in it and needs a new 16ohm one. After around 300 for this amp. Carlsbro 4 channel reverb 50 watt PA - basically what it says on the tin, in good condition needs valves after around 120 Orange SL120 - This is a slave amp thats pertty much just the back end of an OR120, tis a great sounding amp if you drive it with a pedal or something. Fully serviced and all that jazz and in okay condition. Problem with it is that someone sprayed the enclosure matt black and i've started cleaning it off and it looks a lil funky. comes with valves etc. After about 400 for this.
11.
Yoo, I've read on some forums that people can get a crunchy sound out of their marshall JCM 800 bass(1992 model) Its been told to crank up your master volume somewhere from 7 to 10. But I haven't found that crunchy sound despite turning the volume up and playing with the knobs. I use 3 preamp 12AX7 no name tubes and 4 sovtek tubes. Any advice or maybe a demo?
Try some different valves, sovteks tend to sound pretty fizzley in the high end when overdriven and so do the no name chinese jobbies. I've never had a problem with getting a marshall to sound mean
12.
bump and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190604429843? 750 ftw?
jumbo is different and more rare. It's essentially an awesome sounding big muff. Still want your pedal though, i'm sure you have to name a price for it by forum rules ;<

SOLD!!!

i've got a marshall 2001 400W all valve jobbie if your intrested? They're pretty rare.
14. Yeah gut instinct says power amp problem, valves don't usually die slowly and gracefully. Would be worth sticking a nice one in there anyways.
15. Haha, if i do the trade do i get to put more amps into your pile here? Will get the gut shots when i can be arsed to take the amp apart
16.
Hey guys, be aware that 200/300W are ok too i don't necessarily need 400W.
if you want something you can actually crank, i think theres a soundcity bass150 for sale in the for sale section
17. ask matamp to do you a 400watter and get a barefaced 215. That'll be more than you ever need
18. I have to much stuff and to little money so i need to sell some stuff. This is one of the 80s hiwatts and has had a full service recently and everything is in great working order. It's in great condition to only a few blemishes to the tolex but it does have architect sprayed on the bottom. I'd keep this if i could justify it because it's definatly one of the better heads i've heard, it's FAT when ran clean and just gets more gnarly the more you crank it and doesn't break up to harshly just gets more punchy. Absolutely love it. Had great success using it with guitar to. It'll do 100Watts into 4 / 8 / 16 / 100v Not got any pictures of it at the moment as my phone camara is pants and i don't know where my other one is. I'll post this amp anywhere etc and if you have any questions shoot away! price is 750 OBO
