1.
That's one of the main reasons I got hol of my sound city b120, use for both bass and guitar, just swap cabs around. I think it sounds good
you can't go to wrong with that, just make sure you're guitar cab can handle the soundcity, they bust out alot of power!
  2. sounds like arking on the valve basses. clean the bases properly and report back ;p
  3. sorry was making a reference to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko

  5.
Hi folks, Thought I'd let you know about a build I've started - a replica of Matt Sharp's black jazz bass he used in his time with early Weezer and the Rentals. The bass is made up of a knackered old 70's body, some Schecter Monstertone pickups and a Birdseye Maple/Ebony Warmoth Tele Bass neck. Karl Koch (Weezer's webmaster and general fifth member) got in touch with Matt for me and passed on the specifics for the build, so I'm really grateful for that. Here's the bass as it is now. I'm not one for relicing basses, so I needed a black Jazz body with 70's spacing. A used Geddy Lee bass with a few scratches and dings showed up on Ebay so I got that a few weeks back. The pickups were the hardest thing to source. They're discontinued now and only available on Schecter custom shop basses (which retail about $3000). Anyways, I found a guy who bought a bass in 1996, didn't like the pickups and swapped them. Turns out he had kept the Schecter pickups for the next 14 years and happily sold them to me when I asked. I put the order in with Warmoth last week for the neck so that should be here in about 12 weeks maximum. I love waiting, don't you?! Got a couple of other bits on the way from Warmoth; a tortoiseshell pickguard, Schaller BML tuners so they should be here hopefully very soon. I'll update this when they get here. Got a Schaller roller bridge in the mail today from Thomann in Germany to complete it all. I've assembled a bass before, but I think I'll take this to a pro to do a great job and get it setup just right. Finally, here's a couple of pics of what I have now. Cheers for looking.
that gt200 is so sexy, i want to touch it
  6.
Well, at first I thought it was a Stentor, but the logo is not quite similar enough, despite being a centurions head looking left. Baffled...
Are you 100% it's italian?
  7.
what makes the blackface obviously to the best one for you?
sorry was just joking with that part saying older obviously means its better
  8. the older one is obviously the best one. From the schematics i have it doesn't look like alot changed really.
  9.
Blimey, its almost identical to mine. Gotta be worth more than 85 quid though, valve output stage, point to point wiring!?!? If this had a "name" on it it would be up in the 300-500 pricerange. Anyway, I have one, its up for trades if anyone has anything interesting to throw at me.
would've originally had a name badge, trying to remember name of the company but i can't for the life of me

    ohms scare me
The AD200 is a valve amp so the rules are totally different to the solidstate amp ones. It looks like it has both an 8 ohm tap and a 4 ohm tap on the output transformer and you can use either one but not both. You could safely run three 8 ohm cabs on the 4 ohm tap, that won't bother it at all as valve amps are sensitive to overly HIGH not low impedances. Likewise I wouldn't envisage a problem running all those cabs you describe off the 4 ohm tap.
true, as long as its not reading to near an open circuit. it's not like speaker provide a uniform impedence at all frequencys anyway
  11.
That takes me back, my first ever bass amp. circa 1963. I've got its bigger brother, a Linear 50 in the garage which I plan to restore but the chassis got slightly bent during shipping so I'm going to have to strip it right down and get it repainted before I can rebuild it. It all takes time. Thanks to all for the suggestions but I think a lot of you have missed the original point. I have an excellent Orange AD200B which suits me well for larger gigs when paired with an Epifani T212-UL. I don't need another high-power amp. What I am looking for is something smaller in size and power to go with a pair of 12-inch cabs for small lower volume gigs. The Liittle Bastard ticks all the boxes, but so does the Vox Night Train NH-50H. The latter is a guitar amp but could possibly make a good 50-watt bass amp. After all AC50s were used for both. It has some interesting features such as 2-channels and a Fender Tone stack that can be bypassed to give a flat response. Also the tone stack could be easily revoiced for bass. I'm going to have to try one before making a decision. Has anyone who works in a music shop tried one with a bass?
unfortunatly a vox night train isn't an ac30. I've tried one out and i wasn't hugely impressed. I still recomend getting your Soundcity sorted, you can mod them pretty easy to get something you like. I have the AD200 schematic if you'd like to use that to convert to convert the soundcity.
  12.
More volume? I don't think so, and certainly that wasn't what I was trying to achieve! The OTB kicks out so much, especially through a Barefaced cab, that what I wanted was more control of the sound. With the original AX7's in place, at most pub gigs I had both Volume and Gain set to "9:00 o'clock" and they were almost On/Off switches. I can now balance volume against gain to vary my tone as I wish, because I can use far more of each knob's range, while still turning out just as much volume as before. The AT7s that I have used offer a slightly smoother, less raucous tone than the original fitment AX7s, but any time I want to max out on the grit I can turn the Gain to "3:00 o'clock" and the Volume back down to "9:00 o'clock".
You find you have less low end with the 81's? the lower plate resistance shifts the high pass filter up a fair bit so bigger caps may be required to retain the original sound
  13. yeah you could either connect both to one side for a 2ohm load or one to each side for two 4 ohm loads.
  14.
Been there and done it with the Terror not long after it was released. Tried all the favourite valves but couldn't get near the AD200B sound so I sold it. I know what you mean about transformers and PSUs. When I get around to it I've got a Linear 50, a Sound City PA50 and an SC200 to get working but it's all a matter time so I'm looking for soemthing off-the-shelf. maybe I'll take myself over to Andetons and see if they will let me try a Vox though a bass cab.
I really recomend getting the soundcitys up and running! Also in relation to a smaller valve amp, i'd recomend trying out one of the marshall 18watters or a valve junior. What kinda volumes are you after?
  15.
I'm replacing the original switch with the exact same switch from BritishAudio but I'll take a photo of the connections with my phone before beginning. My memory is terrible with that sort of thing.
i've just checked and i have some pictures if you need them! I cleaned all the valve bases etc. so it doesn't really need doing but its good practice, i normally use a non lubricated version of wd40 ie. a switch cleaner. Spray it in the base and pull the valve in and out a few times to clean all the dirt off.
  16. yeah it'd be possible to do that, draw up a diagram of exactly what you want first though
  17.
May I ask what you did with the original neck?
When i bought it, it had a dr z neck on it that was a bit pants, so i got ridda that and stuck the allparts one on it
  18.
Hiya. I`m interested in making an offer! I`m assuming it has the original pickups fitted? Is the neck still unvarnished? Is the tuner wobble down to the squier tuners having smaller bores than the fenders?? I can be in Sheffield on Monday 12th to meet up and have a look, (I`m at a gig in the Corporation Club) if that`s any use? PM sent with contacts etc also. Dave.
Just saw this. It has the original pick ups and the neck is unfinished, which is another thing i can do if you like. I always felt like it didn't really need doing. The wobble is down to the hole being slightly to large i think. ALSO BUMP WITH PRICE DUMP YEAHH
  19. Selling my peavey ipr1600, this is a great amp and was part of a rig i was intending to build, which i've changed my mind about (I just can't say no to using a bunch of kt88s ) This is super lightweight and super powerful and has all the mod cons you'd expect from a power amp - heres a link to the specs http://www.peavey-eu.com/#product/5/2885 this comes in the original box and / or a 3u rack case. It's hardly seen any use at all etc. so i'd like 300 for it with the rack case + postage depending on where you are. Shouldn't be alot considering how light this is though!
